Aldi or Lidl

It's not an AIBU, I know 😚

It's my day off, the weather is fine and I need to pop out for a few bits. I need you to tell me whether to go to Aldi or Lidl. They're an equal distance to walk to.

I'm drinking tea in a fog of indecision. Please help me 🙏

I'm going back to Aldi despite it being further as wit my Lidl it's often out of stuff and Aldi has better easy meal stuff which I need this week!! E.g. chicken in tray ready to oven

Lidls have donuts filled with what seems to be Nutella and a chocolate coating on the base, Mmmmm.

Aldi. Also they have got a beautiful hurricane candle holder in for 9.99. Keep your eye out for it🤣.
Thats why im always skint when i go to Aldi. Kind of defeats the object really🤷‍♀️

I do both and prefer Aldi but have to drive to get there and Lidl is literally a 2-minute walk away. If you second £250 in a month you get 10% discount off everything (except booze and baby formula) which last for 7 days. Lidl is looking more and more like a bomb has hit it at the moment.

Aldi I quite like.

They have decent red meat, cold meat, ready meals. I get a good aged sirloin from them for £3.50. Their salmon is good. Recently they have upped their game a bit on fruit and veg. Mine is lasting longer now. Their own brand stuff like baked beans is pretty good and their crisps are good.

Things I don't like are their chicken. I also struggle with their supply, so for example they have stopped stocking frozen beef mince that I used to buy. I can't figure out why they did this, as they seem to have frozen everything else (shellfish, chicken etc).

My alternative to aldi is co-op, which is stupidly expensive and not really that much better.

Where I live Lidl has empty shelves but does offer low fat tinned rice pudding whereas Aldi has only full fat rice pudding but very vast choice of most things.

I can't seem to find light soya milk in either these days though ...

Over the lockdowns I got fitter and would often walk (lockdown walks!) to the nearest Aldi or Lidl. They opened a Lidl in the nearest town/city centre where I sometimes shop.

Aldi is better for certain things but then so is Lidl. There used to be a Lidl about a 10-15 minute walk from the nearest Aldi but I think the Lidl didn’t do as well!

Lidl recently did Nairn’s cheese oatcakes and their fruit oat cakes/biscuits which I stocked up on. I stock up on Nature Valley oat bars there too.

It really is a process of elimination as to what you like/don’t like in each store. I do like yogurts in Aldi, plus their hummus.

Aldi does do great Christmas stuff like stollen mini bites.

lidl does Albert Bartlett potatoes and great pastries and also good shampoo.

it can vary as to what’s in stock or not but also some shops are better stocked/presented.

I saw the Aldi competition the other way with baked goods on C4, interesting!

Buy the bargains you see there as often once they’re gone, they’re gone!
