Parking in electric bays

I went somewhere the other day where parking was very full, excitedly started to pull into a bay to realise it was an electric vehicle only bay. I didn't park in it and was lucky enough to get the last normal bay. But it did make me think. There was no one in any of the electric vehicle bays and every other space was then full. If you turned up after me would you have parked in the electric bay as a normal car?
Yabu no I would not
Yanbu yes I would

Of course not

in many car parks there are fines for doing so (rightfully)

Are people made to pay to use the charging bays? I genuinely thought it was a free service

Many are free, some charge

I would say the vast majority of them charge. Very few people are giving away free electricity!

The few that are free to use are slow chargers and not very efficient at fuelling your car - you couldn’t stay there for long enough.

Proper chargers of 50kW upwards are not free. I invariably charge at home, but did need to charge on a long journey a few months ago. To go from the battery 30% charged to 80% cost about £16 at the time - it’s probably more now though.

It's rare to find a free charger now tbh. Even Tesco started charging a fee this month.

No, of COURSE I wouldn't park in a bay next to an electric charging point (designated for electric cars to charge up.)

What a bizarre question. Who DOES that? Confused

The opposite round here

80% are free

Lucky you!!

Yabu
It's a bay for charging EV not a parking bay
(The rest of 'how many parking spaces were available' is irrelevant )

I don't have an EV but won't park in their charging space

Cece92 · 03/11/2022 20:40

@Sirzy yes that's right 🙈 don't shoot the messenger. I have never done it and it is a private car park with around 40 disabled bays. When I spoke to reception Tuesday whilst waiting with my friend she said only 29 people in the building are registered badge holders. I guess on Tuesdays which is the only day everyone is in office they are allowing this genuinely otherwise there's not enough spaces as it's been proven. Again I don't do it I have parked in lift share purely because I haven't gotten a regular space as I start slightly later after dropping my daughter. They have this week announced Tuesday is no longer a set day to be in office and I think it's due to the lack of parking xx

Electric vehicle charging is usually charged for per unit, and in some places the parking is charged on top of the charging- in others it’s included in the electric fee- by charging a high rate per minute of electrical charging time to include the hire of the charging space. EV bays are charging bays not parking bays.
