To be cross I've been given flu vaccination against my consent

I know the title seems a bit inflammatory but just wanting insights from people who may be able to tell me if this could be an error or something I should be cross about.

Last month I went for my 4th covid jab, I was offered the flu jab but declined as didn't want to overload myself as I struggle with an underlying health condition/disability.

On my online account for my GP under the medication section it says I was given the influenza vaccine and there is no mention of the covid jab at all. Is there anyway they could have just typed the wrong thing in when updating rhe system? Or was I actually given the flu jab while under the impression it was a covid jab?

I don't want anyone to get into trouble as mistakes happen but I also want to know what jab I was actually given. I also don't know if it's worth highlighting to the gp practice as someone could actually be allergic to the flu jab.

I'm not raging just don't know how concerned to be or whether to bring it up , advice please!!

@ProFannyTea I've apologised twice for the misleading title but I really am sorry for making you feel cross!

@tickticksnooze completely agree with what you're saying and agree with you! I would just feel guilty but that's my own anxieties coming into play! As a healthcare worker myself (not a nurse) it's always been a huge fear of mine making a mistake and not realising, one if the reasons I left the wards as I just haven't got a grip on my anxiety.

To those asking about the leaflets etc I have mentioned upthread that I was given just a leaflet about the covid vaccine and nothing else.

Please do check if they have made a mistake then they need to investigate how it happened, giving the wrong one could have serious consequences for some people especially with allergies

Often the Covid vaccines are drawn up in batches to save time so you wouldn't see this. That's what we do when I'm vaccinating & that's what my doctor's surgery does.

Wow really, this is considered bad practice & we are absolutely not allowed to draw them up in advance.

Interesting that you are both told differently, I would expect things like this to he strictly uniform across the board.

Judijudi · 02/11/2022 21:01

OP I think the nurse has likely made an admin error and clicked on flu instead of covid but hopefully administered the correct vaccine and they should be able to rectify your record if you speak to them and yes she may get into trouble but she has made an error

Cookerhood · 02/11/2022 21:04

A lot of the SJA volunteers aren't signed off to draw up so theses would always be done in advance anyway.

whatdodos · 02/11/2022 21:06

I didn't see her drawing anything up or how she prepared it as I had my back to where all the stuff was. I'm just going to call up this week and ask, I'm sure it was just an admin error! x

You don't have to get a card after covid booster anymore, it's not necessary now it's all online.
Mistakes happen, I worked in the vaccine clinics last year and we did have vaccinators pick the wrong drop down, twice they recorded the wrong vaccine but it was corrected as soon as we were made aware by the patient.

greensnail · 02/11/2022 21:07

I think it is more likely to be an admin error but you will need to follow up with the surgery to find out for certain. Did you see what the syringe looked like or what colour cap was on the needle before it was used?

maddy68 · 02/11/2022 21:08

It's a common thing to give two I'm own bit ifbyou stipulated you only wanted one of them then they have fucked up

What are you talking about? Covid vaccines only come in multi-dose vials. You have to draw them up (slightly) in advance. It's totally consistent with NHS and manufacturer guidance to do so.

Takingturnstogether · 02/11/2022 21:13

@cptartapp I am pretty sure I was asked if I'd had any other vaccines within a certain timeframe when I recently got my COVID vaccination.

No card and no side effects though.

ittakes2 · 02/11/2022 21:16

I had the same with my son at school - he can have immune issues so I was going to give covid and flu jab separately so had not given consent for flu just covid and had also rung to have it on his file. I was furious they just ignored and gave him both jabs anyway. But they did not even respond to my complaints.

ittakes2 · 02/11/2022 21:17

Have you checked your covid pass records?

Nope, vial on table, we draw up then immediately use it on the patient.
How could you draw up in advance, would then have to re sheath a needle which would increase risk of contamination or sharps injuries.

Wherediditallgo · 02/11/2022 21:18

Whenever you’re given a vaccine the batch number is recorded.
Maybe get them to check that? You may have had covid vacc but it was noted it as flu, but the batch number would be a covid one, iyswim.

She didn't have two. She had one. She wanted the COVID vaccine but the flu vaccine has been recorded on her record.

I think it's most likely that it was a selection error on the computer system rather than the wrong vaccine. They are very different in appearance.

Tistheseason17 · 02/11/2022 21:24

I think someone has clicked the F12 protocol in error - admin error.
Flu vac info is usually entered on the GP IT system and Covid vacs entered on the National Pinnacle system.
Quite likely they expected you to have both and admin entered it in error - and your record will show both flu and covid given.
Your Covid vac should show on your Immunisations page on most GP IT systems.
Simply ask your GP surgery to confirm your record shows Covid Vac given.
If the Covid vac is not documented I'd ask their lead nurse to do an audit to determine what has happened.
Hopefully just admin error.

abblie · 02/11/2022 21:26

I got flu and covid jabs at same time due to medical condition I was grand I had a bit of sore arm and but groggish but would rather be safe than sorry

Arenanewbie · 02/11/2022 21:27

None of us got little card with the last booster ( vaccination centre). DH got a leaflet, DD got a sticker, I got a sticker and a leaflet when asked for it.
I think it’s admin error, sometimes cursor can move to a different box.

PurpleButterflyWings · 02/11/2022 21:28

@whatdodos

If you went for a covid jab at a covid centre I presume, why on EARTH would it be the flu jab ???

Just contact the GP/go in to see them and ask them to amend the record.

We got nothing either. Said they don't do it anymore. We got a leaflet too, with the 'batch number' written on.

MayFlower22 · 02/11/2022 21:33

Why would you think it would overload your system ? That's nonsense , completely up to you if you have both vaccine but your reasoning is bizarre.

Dullardmullard · 02/11/2022 21:34

Scotland don’t give cards never have done

Did it hurt? How much a vaccination hurts depends on what medicine goes into the arm, not what type of needle they use. The flu jab this year is barely a scratch. I haven't had the latest Covid booster (not eligible yet), but I definitely felt the other three!

Speak for yourself because my flu jab hurt like a bastard this year ! I've never had such a painful jab. Honestly I welled up a bit!
