To be cross I've been given flu vaccination against my consent

I know the title seems a bit inflammatory but just wanting insights from people who may be able to tell me if this could be an error or something I should be cross about.

Last month I went for my 4th covid jab, I was offered the flu jab but declined as didn't want to overload myself as I struggle with an underlying health condition/disability.

On my online account for my GP under the medication section it says I was given the influenza vaccine and there is no mention of the covid jab at all. Is there anyway they could have just typed the wrong thing in when updating rhe system? Or was I actually given the flu jab while under the impression it was a covid jab?

I don't want anyone to get into trouble as mistakes happen but I also want to know what jab I was actually given. I also don't know if it's worth highlighting to the gp practice as someone could actually be allergic to the flu jab.

I'm not raging just don't know how concerned to be or whether to bring it up , advice please!!

Sorry but this couldn't possibly have happened. Before you have either jab, there's a series of questions that they have to ask you. (Which will be different)

And then when you've had your jab, if it's a Covid jab, you'll be given a little card telling you the jab you've had, the date, and the serial number.

My surgery is amazing, but we certainly didnt get this 2 weeks ago for the boosters. Questions, yes, document, no.

ProFannyTea · 02/11/2022 20:24

Not as cross as I am at being made to read a false thread against my consent!

I'm a nurse and absolutely believe this can happen. I recently had a Covid vaccine. No list of questions. No card given.
The batch number documented should tell them which vaccine was given.

Have you still got the information leaflet?
My flu one from yesterday is very clear it's for flu. Might be worth a read if you can find it.

We had our covid boosters last week, no card and no information leaflet.

Thanks both I will do that, I only noticed today when going to order my repeat! I don't want some poor nurse getting in trouble if I was given the wrong thing that's my worry x

They should get in trouble because that is dangerous and someone's life could have been endangered.

Turning a blind eye to negligence leaves people at risk, it's the wrong thing to do to cover up medical negligence.

Why do you think there should be no consequences for negligence in healthcare settings? It must be dealt with. Someone could die.

tickticksnooze · 02/11/2022 20:27

I'm sorry, I know you're thinking all "be kind" but it's not kind to keep silent about medical negligence so that some other person comes to harm.

I booked on line for Covid booster clinic(4th injection) When I attended I was asked did I want the flu vaccination at the same time. Flu vaccination was in pre prepared one patient/dose syringe (This has always been my experience with having and giving Flu Vaccinations) Covid vaccine was drawn up from a multidose bottle. No card but quite detailed information sheet re Covid vaccination handed to me.

pastabakeonaplate · 02/11/2022 20:28

Don't worry a bout getting anyone into trouble. It should not have happened so they need to know if it has

katseyes7 · 02/11/2022 20:31

Didn't they give you a little card? You get one of those with your Covid vaccine. I don't know about flu jabs, l don't have them.

CrochetIsCool · 02/11/2022 19:35

I have just had my Covid booster and did not get any card this time.

Nor me.

Spudina · 02/11/2022 20:33

It’s more likely a transcription error saying you have had the wrong vaccine, than you actually receiving the wrong vaccine. But a quick phone call will clear it up, as the batch number will be recorded. If you have had wrong vaccine, that’s a drug error and will be treated as such. They might have to bring in processes to make sure it doesn’t happen again (such as a two person check which is what happens in hospitals but not Drs surgeries.)

toomuchlaundry · 02/11/2022 20:37

My DM didn't get a card for her recent COVID booster but did get a leaflet.

I had the flu jab the other week. It hurt and my arm was sore for a few days (but I am a wimp!). DM said she didn't feel a thing when she had her flu jab, but her arm did ache after the COVID one.

Batshittery · 02/11/2022 20:37

I had my covid booster and flu vaccine together a couple of weeks ago. The only question I was asked was if I wanted them in the same arm or one in each. (I mentioned that they wouldn't do them in the same arm last year but apparently 'advice has now changed')
No leaflet and no card 🤷🏽‍♀️

whatdodos · 02/11/2022 20:39

@ProFannyTea I've apologised twice for the misleading title but I really am sorry for making you feel cross!

@tickticksnooze completely agree with what you're saying and agree with you! I would just feel guilty but that's my own anxieties coming into play! As a healthcare worker myself (not a nurse) it's always been a huge fear of mine making a mistake and not realising, one if the reasons I left the wards as I just haven't got a grip on my anxiety.

To those asking about the leaflets etc I have mentioned upthread that I was given just a leaflet about the covid vaccine and nothing else.

I got no card for the Covid jab, and the only question asked for flu was "over or under 65".

FannyFifer · 02/11/2022 20:42

The flu vax is in a pre filled syringe, Covid is in a vial that u draw up into a syringe so did u notice what they did?

serenghetti2011 · 02/11/2022 20:42

Scotland here, but we record which vaccines a patient wants and ask various questions prior to giving. The flu vaccines are kept separately so you’d have to go and get one then fill in the type and batch number of the vaccine so made as hard as possible to give it incorrectly.

covid is kept on the desk beside us, we give that first then flu. Then fill in on iPad it won’t let us put in incorrect numbers for batch for flu if it was covid we have so not sure how your mistake was made. Vaccine safety is important and basically is a medicine error. I hope you get to the bottom of this so you can find out which vaccine you received.

toomuchlaundry · 02/11/2022 20:42

I had to answer quite a few questions about the flu jab, one important one is if you are allergic to eggs

passport123 · 02/11/2022 20:44

Almost certainly just entered wrongly in your notes. The drawing up procedure is totally different - covid has to be drawn up, flu comes in pre loaded syringes

cptartapp · 02/11/2022 20:47

Quveas again, if 'over or under 65' was the only questioning re the flu vaccine, it is no wonder mistakes happen. You could be 64 now, but if you turn 65 before the end of March you should actually be given the over 65 vaccine.
The COVID vaccine should also not be given within a week of the over 70's shingles vaccine. I almost guarantee no one is asked about this either.

Heatherjayne1972 · 02/11/2022 20:51

Are they meant to ask questions? What questions?

no one asked me anything - it was quick
Literally in jab and out. No chat/questions and certainly no card

maybe it depends on GP practice

IWishICouldDance · 02/11/2022 20:51

Well the batch number will be recorded so surely they would know what was administered from that. If the wrong vaccination has been given the nurse absolutely should be in trouble, as your title says you didn't consent and she could have given it to someone who was allergic. Updating the wrong medical record is just as bad.

FurAndFeathers · 02/11/2022 20:52

When you go for a vacc they give you the data sheet with the vaccine info. What does it say ?

WiseUpJanetWeiss · 02/11/2022 20:53

Did you see the vaccine being prepared and/or administered? The COVID vaccine comes in a multi-dose vial that the vaccinator has to draw up and the flu vaccine comes in a small pre-filled syringe in a blister pack.

euff · 02/11/2022 20:54

Different scenario op but I think recording mistakes do happen. My DM was in hospital. Her notes say she is 5ft 7 when she's 5ft. They also say she had covid and we know they tested her three times and they were all negative.
