Madonna - went from candy to money

I don’t understand her recent Instagram post where she says she went from candy to money. Admittedly I’m not very “up” on modern parlance, which is why I’m asking - what does it actually mean?

I don't understand any of it and I'm not even as old as her so I can't blame my age 🤦‍♀️

It's all just odd. But then again, that's what she's been doing for more than 30 years, isn't it. Shock tactics to keep in the media.

Whitney168 · 31/10/2022 11:23

However, it's none of my business, and she has certainly maintained a certain body tone and facial style that appears to please her, and is very much in keeping with modern standards of beauty according to what I see online.

Well, in her filtered, photoshopped pictures ... in more candid snaps that she doesn't have control of, it just highlights how very fake the ones she posts are as she seems much larger - well, and indeed, in her own photos she is frankly unrecognisable.

Couldn't give a monkey's what size she is, am no oil painting myself. It just seems so bizarre that she seems to think people believe that this is what she actually looks like!

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/10/2022 11:33

She seems to do a lot of strange things - she randomly dressed as a pirate at the 2019 Eurovision final, didn't she? Before going on to give a rather bizarre performance that was described as 'more keys than a janny's bunch' - although I'm sure Jemini liked it. Isn't she into mysticism of some sort?

Going on my very limited knowledge of pop culture and yoofspeak, I would have assumed that 'candy' meant showing off her body and taking her clothes off (when younger, maybe in an attempt to make a name for herself) and the 'money' reference means that she now has the power and influence in her career and no longer feels the need to get her kit off for money or attention. Except that she's just done the exact opposite of that?!?!

LadyWithLapdog · 31/10/2022 11:43

@CrapBucket I got the Cantona-seagulls at the time: when a celebrity says something the little media people hang around to try and get some morsels.

I have no idea of the candy-money here.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/10/2022 11:46

If she'd announced that she'd gone from Candy to Zanussi, I'd have known exactly what she meant - but I've never heard of a brand called 'Money'.

CosmopolitanPlease · 31/10/2022 11:54

Ahh @WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll you may be on to something there. I think she is telling us she sold her Candy tumble dryer (probably on fb marketplace) for money and now she can't dry her jumper, hence the topless photo.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/10/2022 11:58

Maybe she's just been having a look through her address book - and she doesn't know anybody with a surname beginning A-B or N-Z?

She's rumoured to be hooked on pain meds and alcohol according to other sites.

I wouldn't be shocked if she ends up like Whitney Houston.

Blueberrywitch · 31/10/2022 12:11

Maybe she means she went from being hot/sexy - having sex appeal to money (ie having made loads of it)? Candy would be related to sex appeal I think.

Georgeskitchen · 31/10/2022 12:19

She needs to sue her breast surgeon if nothing else!!
Weirdest set of knockers I've ever seen!!

KimberleyClark · 31/10/2022 13:04

No 64 year old woman’s skin looks like that, and I’m not being ageist, I’m 61 myself.

chilling19 · 31/10/2022 23:20

What is disappointing is that Madonna started off by bucking the patriarchy but never moved on. Like Tina Turner. Both seem to be unable to put their experiences into a patriarchal context. Madonna is still trying to conform to 'the only acceptance is to remain fuckable' and Tina Turner seems incapable of putting her horrendous experience of Ike's violence and her experiences into this context.

I highly doubt that. Madonna has always been about self discipline and clean living.

This hurt my head to read.

Lesserspottedmama · 01/11/2022 16:03

That’s Madonna?! Flabbergasted! I feel really sad for her; what the hell happened to her.

Karmagoat · 01/11/2022 16:08

Its a fucking shame really. Woman used to be (and I suppose still is in some ways) an icon.
Dont know why she cant just embrace thats shes 64 instead of resorting to filters and surgery like a Kim Kardashian wannabe.
I honestly expected more from Madonna.

Lesserspottedmama · 01/11/2022 16:48

People like Madonna, Pete Burns etc - what happens to their faces when they finally at 70, 80, 90 or whatever when they finally give up with surgery, fillers, enhancers. Does it all just.. crumple? Collapse?
