To not want to cut my boys hair?

Manchestermummax3 · 28/10/2022 15:52

14 month old little boy - his hair is gorgeous! (I know I'm biased) it's a little wild yes, but that's kinda what I love. It doesn't bother him in anyway (not in his eyes etc)

But my god everyone won't stfu making comments that he should have it cut now because people might mistake him for a girl 😒

He still obviously has quite fine 'baby' hair & getting him to sit still long enough would be mission impossible anyway.
His dad wants it cut too & I just don't want to. Neither of us trumps the other in terms of reasons or rights of course.
He wants it cut because he does, I don't want it cut because I don't basically.

We both are basically unreasonable aren't we? 🤣

Also, if any of you lovely lot have some great comebacks when others bring it up please do share! I've seen some of the most brilliant witty responses on other threads!

OP - the hair doesn't look that long!

Agree.

@Manchestermummax3

From the photo of your son you posted at 23.06, and the fact your post from 17.15 said he has an ambiguous name (could be boy, could be girl,) I have to say, it sounds like you secretly wanted a daughter.

I often find the women who don't want cut their son's 'gorgeous hair/beautiful curls' secretly harbour a desire for a little girl. I mean why do mums of little boys always go on about his 'gorgeous long curls?' I never hear mums of daughters speak like this about their daughters hair.

Also, OP, why on EARTH have you put a ponytail on a BOY? Confused

Have to say I find it really odd that mothers of boys don't mind their boys being mistaken for girls. (Like MANY posters on this thread...) I re-iterate, I suspect it's because they harbour a secret desire for a daughter. No other reason as far as I can see. I can't imagine any mums of daughters being happy at their little GIRL being mistaken for a boy, yet some mums are happy when their boys are mistaken for girls. Very telling.

😕

Children aren’t thugs just because they don’t have their hair all over the place. If anything I’d say a tidy, neat, clean looking short haircut would give me the impression of care being taken over regular maintenance, rather than straggly looking hair all over a child’s face.

This. ^ What a bizarre thing to say... That boys look brutal, and like 'thugs in the making' because they have short, neat hair, and boys REALLY should have long hair. @Mischance secretly craving grand-daughters are you? Grin

QS90 · 28/10/2022 23:51

By that argument though, there should be a percentage of mothers of girls, who secretly wanted boys, who WOULD be glad their daughters were mistaken for sons? And would presumably give their daughters a short back and sides do aswell? 🤔

QS90 · 28/10/2022 23:54

And I do have a friend who is the mother of a little girl who also has lovely, golden locks. We both croon over both the children's hair. Maybe we are just hair obsessed 😂

No. Nice try though.

PurpleButterflyWings · 28/10/2022 23:56

@QS90 I have never EVER known one single mother of daughters EVER secretly want a boy, give her a short back and sides, and be thrilled when people think she's a boy. Never happens. Never will.

Needmorelego · 29/10/2022 00:03

@PurpleButterflyWings I know lots of parents who go on about their sons "beautiful long curls". But I also know lots of parents of daughters who say exactly the same thing.
Weird that you say you don't come across that.

StillMedusa · 29/10/2022 00:04

My DGS is 18m, he has long hair... tied up in a little man bun like his Dad's.
Nope they don't wish they had a girl..they just don't like very short hair!
Now and again someone thinks he's a girl but not very often..he doesn't look girly and doesn't have an ambiguous name either!
PurpleButterflyWings why the shock for a pony tail? Would you be shocked at a little girl with short hair? It's just hair.. and any toddler with long hair needs it tied back for eating at least Grin

PeloFondo · 29/10/2022 00:06

What's wrong with a ponytail? Confused
I see men with long hair. It's. Just. Hair

Yes my child's welfare & my abilities as a mother is defined by his hair... my god 👀
I have been polite throughout this entire thread to others opinions... but you... you are a t**t

As my username suggests, I am a mother of 3. I have mentioned my other son (the 14 Yr old) as he loves a skin fade & is male.

Im confused, his hair isn’t long.😬

At that age, as long as he can see and it’s clean and brushed, just leave it alone. Wanting it long or short or to look a certain way is just weird, he’s so young and not a fashion accessory.

I agree, I don't think it's that long at all, it's just the comments from others have started.
If I had put a sparkly clip in his hair & said he was a girl no one would mention cutting it.

I think that's because most childrens hair is glossy & so healthy/beautiful, boy or girl it's a sign of good health.

@StillMedusa that can't be right? He was only born 5 mins ago! He cannot possibly be 18 months!!

Sunnidaze · 29/10/2022 04:42

Energeticenoch · 28/10/2022 18:42

Entirely up to you but most “gorgeous” little kids hair is anything but. It’s usually rather ratty and nowhere near as attractive as the parents think. Doesn’t need to be really short but I never ever think toddler curls are cute,

Agreed. I very often hear 'my child's gorgeous curls' but see tangled, wild hair that needs a good wash and brush.

StillMedusa · 29/10/2022 14:06

SkylightSkylight I know.. right?!

I blinked and my terrifyingly ill newborn grandchild has morphed into a delightful, , super sociable munchkin.... with long curly hair Grin He's short for his age and is like a cute Hobbit Grin

I look after him several days a week, and love every second of it! I wish we could freeze time for a while though!

Here's my boy

His hair looks quite scruffy tbh so I’d lean more towards you being unreasonable.

Definitely not in the ‘gorgeous curls’ category

HoHoHowMuch · 29/10/2022 14:30

Don't cut it! I remember ds2's beautiful baby curls, I loved them sooooo much. So sad that they are long gone now as he hasn't been tiny for a long time. I never understood the arguments to get them cut, as no one would be saying that about a girl.
