And if I'm unreasonable, tell me your tips!

I'm not usually so bah humbug but this year with everything that's going on including lack of money it just seems overwhelming. I've been looking through Christmas magazines (big mistake!) and slowly realised that if I want decorations, nice food, kids to have presents etc it's going to be literally hours and hours of work and I just feel defeated. Anyone relate? And no, dh isn't terrible but he literally would not bother with anything Christmassy and we always host as for various reasons (health, space) noone else can.

I understand- trying to do a British style Christmas abroad is tricky.

I've ended up picking bits that I want/are easy/not horrifically expensive and making do with that.

24th evening used to be traditional French cuisine for DH and MIL's sake. I got fed up so now 24th evening = "feast" (i.e. a sit down buffet with all our favourite snacky food and DH cooks a couple of specific French stuff for him and MIL that no one else likes)

25th lunch = aperatif with gougeres and crisps
Starter = fois gras and salmon
Main = goose, mashed potatoes, stuffing, veg and gravy. I prefer roast potatoes but no one else does
Pudding = ice cream yule log (French tradition)

No crackers
Stockings for the kids only
No carol services (hard to find here)
No Christmas pudding or cake
No candles or other decorations in the table (2 DC with dyspraxia is not a good mix)
No pantomime (sob! Although twice we went to London in December so my kids could experience it)

Each to their own. I love Christmas as an adult even though DD is 20 and no longer a child and DH isn’t fussed about Christmas either. But I love my tree, choosing presents, seeing the lights and decorations in the neighbourhood. Some of it I don’t like but obviously that’s okay.
YABU for the way you are thinking or feeling. This is your experience.
