Confused about pregnancy test

TeddyisMydog · 26/10/2022 18:41

(Posting here as the pregnancy board can be quiet)

So I had a positive test last Thursday, tested the same night, with a different brand but using the same pee and imagine my surprise when it was negative.
Took a further 2 tests, different brands to the first test and still negative.
Used the same brand as the positive from last week, still positive

What the heck is going on

Different brands work at different concentrations of hCG so some are more sensitive than others. The amount of hCG in your urine varies at different times of the day and according to how much you have drunk. Only a blood test can give you an accurate level.

TeddyisMydog · 26/10/2022 18:46

My period will be a week late tomorrow, all other brands are negative which is strange
Surely by now all brands would show up positive or even a faint faint line

This is tonight's test

Well that looks positive to me so congratulations!

But surely its the first pee of the day that has best results? I wouldn't bother wasting the money on tests to do throughout the day as the hCG levels can be off/lower

Youdoyoutoday · 26/10/2022 18:50

I did mean your first photo but the second one also looks like a positive to me too!!

TeddyisMydog · 26/10/2022 18:51

Actually my fmu gives me the worst results, think it's because my pee is too concentrated or something 😂 but I only had these brand of tests delivered tonight, the other branded tests I already had in the house. Just doesn't make any sense why other brands are stark white negative, even leaving them for hours there's no hint of a line at all

Oh how strange!

But congratulations nonetheless 👏 😊

False positives are a lot less likely than false negatives. Do a quick Google on the hcg levels all the different brands you've used test for. I'd say a positive result plus a week late period is a positive so congratulations Flowers

I do know someone who after 3 DC never tested positive until she was over 6 weeks with each pregnancy

PutOnAHappyFace · 26/10/2022 19:01

If that's your test a week apart and still so faint then that would mean it looks like a chemical pregnancy, sorry.

Jeds55 · 26/10/2022 19:01

That's a first response test so is a lot more sensitive than most other tests.
Are you sure you're a week overdue for period though? If so the hcg should be strong enough to show on all pregnancy tests by now and the first response would be a lot darker. I'd try to get bloods done to see if hcg is rising but you may have to wait it out and test again.
Hope things work out how you want. I've been there many times with tests like this so didn't want to give you false hope if you're sure on your dates

That was one of my thoughts but I have drunk like a fish today and didn't hold my pee as I wasn't expecting the tests to delivered tonight. Ahhhh 😕 x

Just use a digital

PutOnAHappyFace · 26/10/2022 19:07

@TeddyisMydog just don't want to give you false hope, even with really dilated pee you would see a darker test after a week. With one of my miscarriages I stayed positive for weeks after, just faint so must of been low HCG but high enough to pick up.

So sorry, ive been there, it's shit.

Got2besoon · 26/10/2022 19:10

Sorry OP, but like a PP said, if you tested positive a week ago and your FRER is this light, it's likely a chemical.

HCG should double every 2 days and the FRER should be darker by now, even with dilute urine.

If you're wanting a pregnancy, I hope I'm wrong xx

BatshitBanshee · 26/10/2022 19:18

Just to balance out the previous comments... My tests with DD were this light for the first few weeks and she's a bouncy toddler now. My second pregnancy they were much darker from the get go and darker again every week.

I'd say you're very, very early still which is why it's not picked up by the other tests yet. Don't stress, but I wouldn't retest everyday, how far along do you estimate you are? I'd leave a gap of another 48 hours and see how you go.

TeddyRuxpinstiltskins · 26/10/2022 20:03

@TeddyisMydog 😞. A chemical pregnancy happened to me. Took an early test with a First Response about five days before due period and it was pale but clear as day. Like your first one. I’d just known I was pregnant as I’m very symptomatic. Then I tested over a week later and it was so faint. Then a digital said I was negative. Then a few days later I had a bleed.

I hate pregnancy but actually I’d got my head round it and was on board, so it was rubbish and quite a shock.

Her period is already a week late. It would be detectable on all tests now. Please don’t give false hope.

OnomatopoeiaFlea · 26/10/2022 20:05

Definitely looks more like a chemical than a true positive if it’s been a week and the line is still that faint

Doowop1919 · 26/10/2022 20:06

I'm sorry, op. I agree with others that it's more than likely a chemical.

TeddyRuxpinstiltskins · 26/10/2022 20:07

I hate the term ‘chemical pregnancy’. It makes it sound like it wasn’t a true conception. It is. The egg is fertilised and it implants, just for whatever reason it stops developing shortly afterwards.

Flubadubba · 26/10/2022 20:08

Also for balance: my lines when I had a MMC were super dark. With my 3 year old, it took being almost a month late to get any line.

dinkybella77 · 26/10/2022 20:19

First wee of the day.. gives the best result

Crunchymum · 26/10/2022 20:23

Only time(s) I've ever had such faint lines on a FRER when period was a week late, it hasn't been a successful pregnancy.

I hope its different for you you OP.

sbhydrogen · 26/10/2022 20:26

Use your first wee of the day tomorrow morning. I hope you get the result you want!

Imamumgetmeoutofhere · 26/10/2022 20:51

A positive is a positive. Perhaps try a digital one for sure
