To ask you to admit doing the annoying things people on MN complain about?

For an anonymous internet forum, it continually strikes me as odd that people very rarely admit to engaging in the problematic or annoying behaviours complained about on here - it's always someone else doing it, apparently. Whether it's hogging the middle lane on the motorway, having kids who are out of control in public places, being a noisy neighbour or not picking up dog poo, people on MN constantly complain about these things happening around them but if no one on here admits to doing it, who are all these offenders? For example, several people in my neighbourhood are leaving their dog's poo around constantly, but when this is brought up on here every single dog owner loudly exclaims that it it's these dog owners who give them a bad name, that they never go out walking without carrying several bags for good measure! Same with bad driving - people on here love calling out driving pet peeves, but surely at least some people on here are engaging in those very same behaviours e.g. tailgating, driving too slowly or bad parking, that everyone complains about?

Are people on here just squeaky clean or in denial? I admit it, I do hog the middle lane sometimes, there you go 😬

I don’t know about London but I thought it was illegal, but for this reason only the police can deal with it not parking wardens.

I think it might be illegal in Exeter as well.

But technically it's illegal everywhere as driving on the pavement is illegal and you have to drive on and off the pavement to park on one. And sometimes people drive along the pavement for some time before they go back onto the road, usually when a pedestrian is there.

Yes I think that's the worst one on here. Most of the others are relative light-hearted, if a bit annoying.

Actually a lot of people who actively hunt deer for sport and are skilled at it are a valuable asset to wildlife conservation and land management and are essential to curtailing numbers of invasive wild deer.

Actually hunting deer for spot and culling for conservation aren’t really the same. Sporting estates deliberately keep deer numbers artificially high, by promoting a higher population than the environment could otherwise support, for example It’s not unknown for estates to feed deer in the winter. Sport Hunters also tend to only be interested in hunting stags not hinds so they’re not doing a lot to keep populations in check.

Many sporting estates actively refuse to cull deer to sustainable numbers even though they are doing a huge amount of ecological damage.

BettyPaws · 27/10/2022 11:47

Sport not spot 🤦‍♀️

Actually you intentionally Ignored where I said curtailing numbers of invasive wild deer and as some one who DH works in the conservation industry. People who hunt for sport do assist with controlling the number of invasive deer. Deer have large home ranges so attempting to control them only on one piece of land does not stem an increase in numbers.

“speeding lunatics in Audis” - me I head straight to the outside lane and will stay there unless there is someone behind me then I will move to let them past and go immediately back into the outside lane…I’m not even sorry

This is me too. I even drive an Audi.

I also like getting presents and people remembering my birthday.

I pick up my dog's poo on paths and roads, but if he shits in the woods it stays there (with the fox poo).

AffIt · 27/10/2022 12:40

Based on another thread, I've also just realised I'm that person who crosses the road when there's a pedestrian crossing three metres up the road.

I'm sorry. I'll try to be better.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/10/2022 13:11

I hope these people who are ‘disgusted’ at killing animals for sport are vegan? Otherwise if you then tucked into a ham sandwich or anything similar you’re a massive hypocrite.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/10/2022 13:12

I also like presents on my birthday and would be cross if I didn’t get any.

JOFFCV · 27/10/2022 13:22

What do people get from killing an animal for fun?

Probably the same principle as why people eat them for the taste

QuizzlyBears · 27/10/2022 13:37

I’m on Mumsnet and have no children. Worse, with the exception of my nephew I mostly think other people’s children are massively irritating and I will happily pay for adult only holidays/spaces/services etc to avoid being around them.

Same, it inspired a wee name change 😂

and the selfish part of me couldn’t care less about what is happening in the other lanes where everyone appears completely lost like they’ve woken up in a different country, are trying to get home and this is the first time they have been on the motorway or even had to drive a car even though it’s rush hour and at least 80% of them do this same run twice a day…

I don’t care if there’s 90 lanes I know which one I will be in

Hardly the same is it? Food v sport?

That was me. Without turning this into a skiddy thread, I'll just repeat: in 42 years I have never comes across one that a squirt of bleach doesn't shift. Even if below the water line and so not directly applied.

But surely bleach isn’t SHIFTING it… it’s just… well… BLEACHING it so it doesn’t LOOK like it’s there…. Bleach isn’t going to actually move anything that a good flush didn’t surely 🫤

neverbeenskiing · 27/10/2022 14:45

I have toilet brushes.
I use the tumble dryer a lot.
My cat roams free.
My slow cooker hardly ever gets used and I am shit at meal-planning.
My DC have Christmas eve boxes and Elf on the Shelf.
I would not wear anything from Joules or Boden.
I regularly consume more than 1 glass of wine.
I love a child-free wedding.
I can't stand JK Rowling or Ricky Gervais.

Cafenero35 · 27/10/2022 14:13

I disagree.

If what you object to is that killing for sport is an injustice to an animal, then I don’t see how killing them for gluttony is any kinder or makes a difference to the animal.

Its not like it goes:

Human: “Hello Animal, I’m here to kill you for fun”

Animal: “What! Outrageous! How dare you - what a hideous cruel way to end my life!”

Or

Human: “Hello Animal, I’m killing to now so I can eat your flesh”

Animal: “Understandable. Crack on.”

FWIW I’m not a vegan but I own my choices and how they cruelly impact animals. I also don’t object to fur for the same reasons.

xogossipgirlxo · 27/10/2022 14:53

I own toilet brush.
I appreciate my husband.
I do most of household work out of choice (because my husband works much longer hours than I do) and I enjoy it 🤐
I drive SUV.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/10/2022 14:54

Cafenero35 · 27/10/2022 14:14

Again no, massively no.

Why not?

People do both for their own enjoyment, regardless of the animal’s feelings or welfare.

HauntedCabinet · 27/10/2022 14:57

But surely bleach isn’t SHIFTING it… it’s just… well… BLEACHING it so it doesn’t LOOK like it’s there…. Bleach isn’t going to actually move anything that a good flush didn’t surely 🫤

Maybe. All I'm saying is I have only ever bleached and my toilets are spotless. As in: shiny, smooth, porcelein white surfaces all the way down. No watermarks, no staining, no 'something bleached' stuck to the surface.

I can flush = doesn't help.
I can then bleach and walk away = next time I go, the bowl is absolutely pristine.

I shall stop myself posting pictures to prove it Grin

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/10/2022 14:58

Bleach effectively burns it away. Far more than a good flush can do. That’ll do for me.

georgarina · 27/10/2022 15:00

I do things considered 'grim' by the obsessive clean brigade. Wear house clothes inside, don't shower immediately after getting on public transport (lol), never use antibacterial cleaning products. My kids have a bath every other or sometimes every third day.

I think being germophobic is more unhealthy. It breeds allergies and sensitivities.

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 27/10/2022 14:54

This is true.
However there's a continuum, which has veganism at one end and blood sports at the other. Not everyone can, or wishes, to go all in, but usually draws a line somewhere before they reach the point of gratuitous pointless cruelty.
I am a vegan, but accept that its a huge lifestyle change that many don't want to make for various valid reasons, and I respect that. Killing animals for fun however is inexcusable.

Chouetted · 27/10/2022 15:10

I went to the shop without taking a shower this morning.

Noone looked at all perturbed. I'm sure they were all gagging and fainting after I left with my loaf of bread though, if Mumsnet is to be believed.
