Went out with my friend on Saturday night.
Got to the end of the night and we went to pizza shop for food.
I said i only want garlic and chips which was £3.50
She was saying "ok we will share,il get things too"
I said "I only want garlic and chips as im not massively hungry tho"
She was very drunk and kept going on and on
She got to pizza shop and she was ordering all kinds
I gave her £5 and didn't bother asking for change
She ordered Kebab a pizza and my garlic and chips
It came to over £20
The next day she texts "hi just checked my bank statement I paid £20 in pizza shop but I only have £5 in my purse ? Did we go half's?"
I said no I only wanted garlic and chips but gave you £5

Anyway she went on and on saying I should have gave her £10 as it was food for both of us (I told her I didn't want any)
Now she's saying she can't waste that much money and asking for a extra £5

What do I do? It's only £5 do I just pay it?

Someone asked if it was RAW garlic. Is that a regional thing anywhere? Get defensive all you want but there's a smugness in rolling onto a thread and completely missing the point to show everyone you can't possibly understand their point or address their dilemma because you don't understand what garlic chips is 🙄

So I'll take back 'classism' and replace it with 'superiority complex'.

🤡🤡🤡

It's neither. I didn't ask but I'd never heard the phrase before and assumed OP meant garlic bread. No harm in asking for clarity, and everyone agreed with the OP regardless. Where I am we'd ask for chips and garlic mayo, just like we'd ask for a 'sandwich' and other places call it a 'piece', or I'd say 'jab' but in other regions it's 'jag', I find it interesting learning about different regional colloquiums. No biggie and no superiority complex... I'm now making it for my lunch (with cheese) 🤷‍♀️

Terftrain · 24/10/2022 12:41

I’ve never heard of garlic & chips either, no class struggle here with OP!

I thought it may be like the garlic, salt & chilli chips you can get from a Chinese takeaway?

don’t pay up OP, she has likely forgotten who ate what!

I can't see that anyone has suggested it would be raw garlic Confused

It isn't clear what this means. Google brings up actual garlic slices made into 'chips' for example.

I like garlic and I like chips, so I was curious about how this takeaway combined them, as I actually explained in my post. Now you're accusing anyone who doesn't know of having a 'superiority complex' - whatever that is. If anyone has that, I think it must be you. Your comment about class was wrong but rather than apologise and admit that with grace, you have to come up with yet another silly reason to criticise people for asking.

@AnApparitionQuipped 11:07 there was a raw garlic suggestion

Ah, sorry, I missed that post. I take that back then.

cheeeryybaby · 24/10/2022 12:50

I normally just get my own food but she wouldn't listen and ordered the garlic and chips so that's when I gave her the £5
She was that drunk you couldn't get sense out of her -all I wanted to do was get some chips and jump in the taxi
I was cold and tired and just gave her the £5

Ohsugarhoneyicetea · 24/10/2022 12:50

reply: Why would I go halves in the food you ate on your own? Actually I gave you £5 for my £3.50 meal so you owe me change - but don't worry about it, happy to help out.

MoominPants · 24/10/2022 12:53

Thehop · 24/10/2022 11:07

“Haha I really didn’t. I had garlic and chips and overpaid woth £5 knowing you’d have buyers regret this morning!”

This is the best advice here, bravo @Thehop

No need for nastiness, dissolve this as a non-issue with a bit of humour :)

KatherineJaneway · 24/10/2022 12:54

Did she eat all of the food she ordered OP?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 24/10/2022 12:55

I wouldn't be friends with someone so bloody pathetic if I am honest.

wherearetheturrets · 24/10/2022 12:55

Yanbu

I'd be incredibly insulted by my friend basically calling me a liar by saying 'I bet you ate more than that'!!

Begoniasforever · 24/10/2022 12:56

God just text back and say “mate you were so wankered I’m not surprised you can’t remember 😂 I didn’t even eat all of mine, you just kept ordering and I kept telling uou not to but you said you were starving, I didn’t eat any of it, you ate it all you had the right munchies .x”

Ineedaduvetday · 24/10/2022 12:56

I dont think its classism at all. Just a regional difference. Actually, I also assumed garlic bread and chips (not that it matters!)

I assumed the same.

CallTheMobWife · 24/10/2022 12:56

Never mind what it is, why is everyone saying garlic and chips or garlic sauce and chips, or garlic mayo and chips? This implies the garlic is the main part of the dish and the chips the side or add on. It's so weird. You wouldn't say chips and fish?

OP, tell her to fuck off.

Begoniasforever · 24/10/2022 12:58

To be honest I’ve never heard of garlic and chips either, defo not a class or superiority thing.

I dunno, I'm a big garlic Mayo fan and wouldn't be disappointed if it was the main part of the meal, especially when I'm drunk Grin

My mum says chips & fish. It always stands out to me. I’m northern and have never heard of garlic & chips, I’d have thought it was garlic bread and chips. Must be unique to area.
I think breezy response best - 😆 you were so drunk. I gave you £5 for my £3.50 garlic & chips. Transfer me £1.50 😂

CookPassBabtridge · 24/10/2022 13:04

I would definitely say "actually you owe me £1.50 but I'll let it go" 😆😆

MavisChunch29 · 24/10/2022 13:04

cassiatwenty · 24/10/2022 13:06

@Begoniasforever Funny and to the point, yet friendly. Not bad 😎

TokyoSushi · 24/10/2022 13:07

Oh yes definitely bright & breezy.

I'd say I only wanted garlic & chips (new phrase learned here by me!) that's all I ordered, and I didn't even eat all of that! It's you that kept ordering things, I didn't eat any of it! If you have £5 then technically you owe me £1.50 but I'll let you off! And then allll the emojis - cheeky mare!

RonSwansonsChair · 24/10/2022 13:09

I won't repeat what everyone else is saying, but I do want to know what you said in response!

doubleshotcappuccino · 24/10/2022 13:11

If it's roasted garlic and chips that sounds amazing .. but also I would just pay it
