Went out with my friend on Saturday night.
Got to the end of the night and we went to pizza shop for food.
I said i only want garlic and chips which was £3.50
She was saying "ok we will share,il get things too"
I said "I only want garlic and chips as im not massively hungry tho"
She was very drunk and kept going on and on
She got to pizza shop and she was ordering all kinds
I gave her £5 and didn't bother asking for change
She ordered Kebab a pizza and my garlic and chips
It came to over £20
The next day she texts "hi just checked my bank statement I paid £20 in pizza shop but I only have £5 in my purse ? Did we go half's?"
I said no I only wanted garlic and chips but gave you £5

Anyway she went on and on saying I should have gave her £10 as it was food for both of us (I told her I didn't want any)
Now she's saying she can't waste that much money and asking for a extra £5

What do I do? It's only £5 do I just pay it?

You should go halves. You more than paid your share if she chose to carry on ordering lots of food that's her choice. I don't mind going halves if it's a similar amount but not when my food costs pennies and someone else's costs loads.

This. CF to accuse you of lying.

Tell her she owes you £1.50! She’s taking the piss. Who orders a kebab and a pizza anyway??

a regular on the Low Carb chat thread led by BIWI I reckon

Also do you mean garlic sauce and chips? <misses point of thread>

Glad I wasn't the only one wondering about this also.

Loving the classism at people falling over themselves to ask what garlic and chips is

🤡

CatinaStorm · 24/10/2022 12:16

Just tell her: No, I was very clear I only wanted chips and told you lots of times. I only ate the chips I ordered, nothing else. You were drunk and ordered lots of food. I paid more than my share. I won't pay for things you ordered because you were drunk. That's on you.

It's not classism - typical Mnet assumption there🙄. I'm 100% working class and have never heard of it. Perhaps it's regional?

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/10/2022 12:20

I've had a close friend in the past who bickered over paying an extra £5 for a taxi one night, no matter that I'd paid for other stuff for her, was really pressing me to pay back this fiver asap and she earned more than me. We're not friends now!

GonnaGetGoingReturns · 24/10/2022 12:21

OP - don't pay her, she owes you if anything.

Doris86 · 24/10/2022 12:21

Nothing annoys me more than going out for dinner with people who suggest going halves, and then proceed to order the most expensive things on the menu. Meaning those ordering cheaper meals are subsidising then.

No, pay for what you order. £5 was more than generous considering it was still more than what you ordered.

Next time, place your orders and pay separately.

It’s not classism, it’s a regional thing.

Not everything has to become about class.

Not everything is a class issue. MN is completely obsessed with class. Bizarre.

I dont think its classism at all. Just a regional difference. Actually, I also assumed garlic bread and chips (not that it matters!)

Bloomin heck you’re a sensitive soul, aren’t you?!

auntiemabelisveryable · 24/10/2022 12:26

Tell her that at the time you said you only wanted chips and garlic Mayo as you weren't very hungry and that you gave her more then they cost!

AryaStarkWolf · 24/10/2022 12:26

Yeah don't think it's classism either, it kind of depends on what your local chip shops offer. It's a pretty common combination in Irish chip shops for example

Dacquoise · 24/10/2022 12:29

From what you've said she ordered and has eaten £15 odd pounds of food, why do you need to subsidise that?

Classism 😆. It's clearly a regional phrase I'm poor as they come and don't know what it is with it clarifying

LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet · 24/10/2022 10:59

What an unattractive quality in a friend! How mean!

Wow really? So the op should just pay an extra £6.50 above what she had to keep her friend happy.
I bet your one of life’s people pleasers

NippyWoowoo · 24/10/2022 12:32

Someone asked if it was RAW garlic. Is that a regional thing anywhere? Get defensive all you want but there's a smugness in rolling onto a thread and completely missing the point to show everyone you can't possibly understand their point or address their dilemma because you don't understand what garlic chips is 🙄

So I'll take back 'classism' and replace it with 'superiority complex'.

🤡🤡🤡

I wondered if it was the Mayo but more assumed it was like those ones you get at the Chinese where they fry the chips with fresh garlic

Just sounds like you have a big garlic chip on your shoulder tbh.

’superiority complex’ doesn’t make sense either.

Nope. You just have an (ungarlicked) chip on your shoulder. Not a lot of chippies know what a bean mix is, even in the next town over. Its a regional thing, not class.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 24/10/2022 12:40

If she can afford to get so pissed that she can't remember who ate what, then she can afford it. CF. I wouldn't bother going out with her again.
