If you knew that already then that's grand.
If you expected it and are fine with it, great!

What I feel deeply uncomfortable with is, is OP's having very specific and detailed stuff out out by MN on FB.

There seems to be little choice happening here.
Less anonymity.

I am now worried about posting on MN Inca we it's posted on fb.

AIBU!

😳 I didn’t know this. Well I certainly won’t be posting any threads! Thanks for this op.

CheeseForTea · 22/10/2022 18:51

Have you been living under a rock?

suppose it helps with the cost of living crisis

SavingsThreads · 22/10/2022 18:51

Of course MN have social media.

How is Facebook less anonymous than mumsnet?

woodhill · 22/10/2022 18:52

I don't really like the idea of it but I suppose only people who join group have access to it?

Idontevenknow · 22/10/2022 18:53

Yes I agree. I do hope mumsnet asks posters if they can post on Facebook. I doubt they do as anything on their website is theirs or whatever.

However I feel that people are a lot more likely to see things on Facebook, than the mumsnet forum

RefuseTheLies · 22/10/2022 18:54

First time it happened to me, I nearly died of shock 😆 Can’t imagine how much worse it feels to be picked up by a national newspaper

MirandaWest · 22/10/2022 18:54

More annoying recently was that a thread was posted that had been deleted on MN due to being by a previously banned poster . Not good having that posted on Facebook

Curta · 22/10/2022 18:54

Why does it make any difference to the OP? Sometimes people comment on the post, so they obviously can't address the topic anonymously, but that's their choice.

It's not like it puts all your posts onto your Facebook page for your friends to see!

SavingsThreads · 22/10/2022 18:51

It's not, but I suppose where the OP is coming from is that threads on MN (unless the media picks it up) are contained on MN, whereas on Facebook they can be shared on people's pages and people who wouldn't normally see it might see it (and therefore is more 'outing')

Chikapu · 22/10/2022 18:55

Nothing on the internet is private, anyone can read Mumsnet without an account and threads here pop up for all kinds of random searches.
It's no more secure than Facebook.

KitchiHuritAngeni · 22/10/2022 18:55

They get posted out in emails, on FB, twitter and lazy journalists print them too.

I wouldn't ever post an outing thread and often change details and name change when I post about various stuff to stay anonymous.

woodhill · 22/10/2022 18:52

Nope. The page is public and blue ticked.

AnApparitionQuipped · 22/10/2022 18:57

Yes, I was aware of this.

XenoBitch · 22/10/2022 18:57

The Sun, Mirror, and Daily Mail also post threads from here all the time.

Scaryhairylairymary · 22/10/2022 18:57

If someone likes or comments on the post, it will become visible on that person's friends' news feeds (it has the globe icon on top of the post which means it is a public post)

MajorCarolDanvers · 22/10/2022 18:58

What difference does it make?

It's a public website. Regularly gets picked by national media as well as social media.

Nothing on here is private.

WeAreAllDead · 22/10/2022 18:58

I’ve seen them post a few threads which were taken down for privacy reasons very shortly after.

They not contained on MN.

MN is a public forum, therefore they're 'contained' on that massive search engine called Google (to name just one).

I saw that, there were people on the Facebook post asking what a PBP was.

This.

BuffaloCauliflower · 22/10/2022 19:00

@woodhill anyone can read Mumsnet threads, you don’t have to sign up it’s all completely public. You just have to join to reply/contribute, not to read.

Orangio · 22/10/2022 19:01

But you don't need an account to read Mumsnet, it's completely free and publicly available. So what's the difference?

woodhill · 22/10/2022 18:52

I don't really like the idea of it but I suppose only people who join group have access to it?

Nope, anyone who views or likes MN's page!

MichaelAndEagle · 22/10/2022 19:03

The difference is the amount of users i guess.
Even taking into account people who Google and randomly access mumsnet.
