If you knew that already then that's grand.
If you expected it and are fine with it, great!

What I feel deeply uncomfortable with is, is OP's having very specific and detailed stuff out out by MN on FB.

There seems to be little choice happening here.
Less anonymity.

I am now worried about posting on MN Inca we it's posted on fb.

AIBU!

OP posts:
EmmaH2022 · 22/10/2022 19:03

But that’s just going from one public forum to another

MN are on all sorts of social media and the press, radio, TV run the stories.

StupidSmallFruit · 22/10/2022 19:05

Yes, I knew this happened.

I don’t get the big deal. Mumsnet is a public forum, FB is a public forum.

Nobody is going to be following MN on FB if they don’t already go on MN.

And who is going to be randomly sharing Mumsnet posts from FB that are nothing to do with them?! No-one. And if they do (which they wouldn’t), it will be to their 200 FB mates. As opposed to MN, which is read by 100s of 1000s of people around the world. Grin

To be honest, I don’t understand why people post on MN, anyway. I mean, it’s great that they do - it gives me something to read. But I have never had an issue in my life that I couldn’t just figure out on my own - I have no idea why people need to come on to a forum and ask a load of strangers how to adult.

And as for the general chat threads, who cares if they’re shared?

YABU.

Favouritefruits · 22/10/2022 19:06

One of my threads ended up in the Mirror, thankfully my SIL who was slated during the post doesn’t read the paper, that could of been very awkward!

Keyansier · 22/10/2022 19:06

CheezePleeze · 22/10/2022 18:59

They not contained on MN.

MN is a public forum, therefore they're 'contained' on that massive search engine called Google (to name just one).

Are you purposely misconstruing that post?

MN is a public forum, yes, to anyone that chooses to access it and read it. If a story is shared amongst people's Facebook profiles then it's shared to an audience who wouldn't have visited the website and therefore wouldn't have seen it.

generalh · 22/10/2022 19:07

They are also posted on Twitter.

EmmaH2022 · 22/10/2022 19:07

And OP can’t be worried as she has illustrated it without trying to cover up the text of the thread on Facebook.

tirednewmumm · 22/10/2022 19:07

I knew and I'm ok with it, no less private than Mumsnet itself 🤷🏻‍♀️

LeMoo · 22/10/2022 19:08

Uh, what??

The problem for many people is that the threads will reach a much wider audience of people if shared publicly on fb. People will worry that friends and family are more likely to identify them.

Who do you envisage is going to be sharing some stranger’s MN post on FB?

This is the bit I don’t get.

Irridescantshimmmer · 22/10/2022 19:11

Facebook is like a rash you can't get rid of, its everywhere.

User17956743 · 22/10/2022 19:12

It's public anyway on here, best to use use an anonymous type username and change it often

woodhill · 22/10/2022 19:12

I thought you had to join the group on Facebook to access site and be approved like many online Fb groups itms

CheezePleeze · 22/10/2022 19:13

So what though?

So a few more people might see a thread because they just happened to be on FB when a friend of theirs commented on it Confused

That makes zero difference considering when you start a thread on MN, you have no idea how many people are going to read it anyway. I mean, posts stick around on MN for donkey's years.

I don’t think you do, you just follow the page.

But who is going to follow Mumsnet on FB, if they don’t already go on Mumsnet…?

EndlessMagpies · 22/10/2022 19:14

I've been on Facebook for around 15 years and I have never ever seen a Mumsnet post on there. Zilch. Nothing.

If anyone puts anything on any kind of online forum or social media they have to accept that they lose all control of what they've written the moment they post it.

Because it's a public page on FB, if someone on your friend list comments on a MN post (on FB), it can appear in your newsfeed.

Goodness me, the low levels of technical literacy on here is worrying at times

Can we unpack this?

Because I’m seriously not getting it.

Who is following MN on FB that doesn’t already go on MN?

And who is doing all this mysterious sharing of MN’s FB posts of complete strangers?

I am very Confused

CheeseForTea · 22/10/2022 19:16

Those worried about this will spit feathers when they realize MN even advertise posts on FB. So you don’t even have to like the MN FB page to see it!

CheezePleeze · 22/10/2022 19:16

And I too have been on FB for years and years and have never seen a Mumsnet post on my newsfeed, despite having friends on here.

StupidSmallFruit · 22/10/2022 19:18

Which means it will reach an audience of 🤷🏻‍♀️ 200 or so people.

MN already has an audience of 100s of 1000s of people around the globe.

Exactly.

There are millions of MN users.

People are getting in an utter flap over …. nothing.

YellowTreeHouse · 22/10/2022 19:22

YABU. If you are posting here you are posting publicly on social media.

Anyone can lift it for any reason.
