Tell me about Matched betting or other way to make money quick?

Keep seeing online that matched betting is a good way to earn a little bit of money for a short time. But I literally have no idea what it is or how to do it. The closest I come to gambling is buying lottery tickets, I know nothing about placing a bet, how to do it, what to pick etc. Is there an idiots guide somewhere to match betting? Is it really a quick way to make money, or do I need some skill at betting? Any other suggestions on ways to make some Christmas money?

Matched betting is part of the immoral industry that is gambling. The betting houses set the conditions which allow matched betting to take place to try and suck in new punters by offering freebies. Mntters play betting houses at their game by taking the freebies and not being sucked in. Betting houses don't make as much money as a result. These successful mntters eventually get gubbed.

Anything which makes gambling less profitable for betting houses is good in my book.

Matched betters are performing a social service 💪

@RunningFromInsanity god yes. I explained that really badly 😬

t's like taking a promo from a subscription company and the cancelling before giving them any money. However like I said as it's bookies we're talking about this is not something I'm worried about

Yes - but when you place your matched bet, where do you think the money comes from at Betfair Exchange?

But they (the exchange gambler) can still win or lose on the bet - regardless that you are also laying it elsewhere?

Applesandcarrots · 22/10/2022 20:12

It's like saying it's immoral to make interest on savings because it may come from interest on loans...

I think there's a difference between interest on loans and gambling.

Each to their own. But I know that gambling is an addiction - and match betting is part of that industry - you are betting with Betfair to match your bets - and that is people who are also betting.

True - that's gambling for you.

It comes from the gamblers but I feel the majority of people using exchanges are probably other match betters and if there not then they are people who are of their own volition gambling. If someone choses to gamble that is their choice it is not illegal in this country. The gamling problem in this country is not being driven by loses at exchanges but rather by a whole host of other social issues.

That's a lot of matched betters.

And true - gambling is not illegal. But exchanges are part of the gambling industry which does cause problems for people.

So can be stuff people by on loans or credit cards making interest.
When you save money somewhere they get invested or loaned. That's how they make money

NamelessNancy · 22/10/2022 20:34

Of course you can lose money on matched betting, albeit not in a gambling sense. The internet going down at the wrong moment can be enough. That said I've had a couple of spells doing it and have made good money. It does require attention to detail and a reasonable float makes targeting the better offers easier too. Good luck if you give it a try.

For SOME people.

Loans cause problems for SOME people - should no one ever get a mortgage because you're contributing to an industry which has made some people bankrupt?

I suppose it depends where you draw the line.

Matched bettor here! I’ve been doing it for four years and have made close to 6 figures. It enabled me to take a year off work and I used matched betting money to live. I made over £30,000.

For the people wondering how to make money continuously, you learn more advanced techniques than your standard ‘bet x get y’ offers.

You can also open accounts in your partners / family / friends names with their permission.

My inbox is open if anyone wants to ask me any more questions.

Is that how you get round being gubbed?

Yes, it’s what they refer to as ‘pet accounts’ or ‘multi accounting’. It’s a legal grey area.

Husband paid off our mortgage early with 18 months of match betting.
He is very good at maths and had an insane spreadsheet. It's the only time I've seen him take an interest in sport!

It took him a long time, and it is not something to do when tired or lacking focus, as he messed up a couple of bets that way. You really need to know what you're doing and a good system to keep track. I had no clue what was going on when he explained things to me.

When you get good at it and keep winning, the betting sites ban you, so he had to stop playing.

If you use people in the same household, you'd get gubbed pretty quick, as they log your IP address. Anything to avoid paying out.

Confusedmaa · 23/10/2022 01:24

I did it for a few weeks and made around £400. Just make sure you watch all of the videos and follow the instructions carefully. I did it with team profit who were free at the time. Don't know if they still are.

I found that 2 years between starting accounts if your previous ones were inactive and different device worked. 🙈
But most have clauses about it.

iratepirate · 23/10/2022 09:33

An ex got quite into matched betting whilst at uni and covered most of his living expenses with the proceeds and had a decent chunk left for his house deposit.

He was reading Further Mathematics and one of their lecturers suggested they tried it as a bit of an experiment. It was time consuming and took a lot of spreadsheeting.

It clearly can pay off if you have the time to invest in it.

Use separate devices and don’t use the wifi.

Very inspiring! How much did he pay off?

Lion1618 · 24/10/2022 12:02

I've been a matched better for about 5 years. It has helped me pay off debts and have a full year off on maternity leave. It's s now helping me work towards a full year off for a second maternity leave.
My advise would be to join the matched betting groups on Facebook, use Odds Monkey or Profit Accumulator guides to learn and go slowly. It's not a race to make money as quickly as possible in the first instance. You need to take your time and really learn the mechanics of it and start small. Good luck.

That's not how it works, you don't get good at it and keep winning.

You make a profit from the difference between one bet winning and one bet losing. The bookies gub you because they can spot match betting.
