Tell me about Matched betting or other way to make money quick?

BoobBoobBaby · 22/10/2022 08:28

Keep seeing online that matched betting is a good way to earn a little bit of money for a short time. But I literally have no idea what it is or how to do it. The closest I come to gambling is buying lottery tickets, I know nothing about placing a bet, how to do it, what to pick etc. Is there an idiots guide somewhere to match betting? Is it really a quick way to make money, or do I need some skill at betting? Any other suggestions on ways to make some Christmas money?

Someone who understands matched betting could make money if its possible showing other ppl what to do. I mean every step of the way a personal service.
I would pay for that . Probably not possible though. Let me know if it is.

Odds monkey do that for £15 a month!

BorisJohnsonsHair · 22/10/2022 14:08

There's a brilliant ongoing monthly thread called earn £10 a day. Sorry, can't work out how to link it but it has Spooky in the title this month

BorisIsaSpider · 22/10/2022 14:27

So the bookies must be building their "losses" from matched betting into their business model, which means that Joe public is funding your gains because if that wasnt the case, matched betting would end.

In other words, your Xmas money from matched betting is coming from the pockets of mug gamblers, whose DC may have to go without.

ExtraOnions · 22/10/2022 14:30

The only person who ever wins with gambling are the gambling companies.

Down that path lies misery … advocates will tell you it’s easy money (like all the MLM huns), but there is no free money or easy money.

BorisIsaSpider · 22/10/2022 14:30

In other words, making money from "matched betting" is making money by exploiting other people's weaknesses like drug dealing and sex work

BorisIsaSpider · 22/10/2022 14:32

The bookies are getting their moneys worth with this thread, moths to the flame. Easy money. Why not try card counting in Casinos?

titchy · 22/10/2022 14:35

To be fair though all gambling winnings are financed from other gamblers, irrespective of whether you're MBing or mug punting.

@ImaniMumsnet i don’t understand? Ive been here for years and name changed, but I’m not sure why the post has been reported?

I do matched betting and you 100% do not lose anything apart from a small qualifying loss with each pair of bets (the back and the lay).

I can make anything between 300 and 1000 but last month I made around 1,100. It is risk free.

You can look at ANY way you make money in a negative light. Whatever job YOU do - someone is suffering, somewhere.

Im not going to get overly upset about grown adults who know exactly what they’re doing, doing exactly what they know they’re doing

Except there literally is free money in matched betting

Yes you could lose on a bet if you don’t remember to lay it.

You'd have to be very forgetful to forget to lay it 😁 youre supposed to both the bet and the lay together.

I did match betting a couple of years ago before Xmas and made £3/400 in a couple of weeks. I gave up as I found it stressful making sure you've laid the bet properly and also time consuming find the best odds to lay on, but it was definitely worth it.

A year ago I started team casino, which is similar and have made £6000 tax free in the past year from sitting on my arse watching tv whilst tapping "spin", like match betting you need to pay a subscription to a website who will explain in great detail what to do and tell you which offers to do.

Match betting is best to start with. Team casino can feel too much like risky betting when you first start.

Because some people are really, really thick and think they know stuff they have no idea about

HailAdrian · 22/10/2022 14:51

Had a look at it, cannot for the life of me get my head around it.

crazyplanet · 22/10/2022 14:58

@happinessischocolate I will look into team casino than you.
I did matched betting for a year and a half with profit accumulator and made just over 7k but now gubbed by most of the decent bookies.
It does take a lot of your time up but it's tax free cash.

blueshoes · 22/10/2022 15:02

If you get gubbed, can you lie low and re-surface later? Or do the betting companies have your details like passport number so they can always trace back to you.

Coffeaddict · 22/10/2022 15:03

I use odds monkey but from what I gather oddsmoneky and profit accumulator are pretty much the same.

I set up a separate bank account to use just for my gambling put in 40 quid seed money and have made over 4 grand in a year tax free. I just dabble in the evenings when kids are in bed while watching telly.

Before you do anything watch all the tutorials. There is also support on Facebook groups

Fairyliz · 22/10/2022 15:03

I did it for 18 months and made £13k from about three hours a week. I joined Profit accumulator and initially followed their guides step by step until I understood it. I do think it helps if you have a reasonably mathematical brain so you understand the figures.
I would still be doing it now if I hadn’t been banned by the betting sites.

They have your details they won't allow you to open another account. Essentially once your gubbed your out of that bookies.

Coffeaddict · 22/10/2022 15:09

Dinneronmybfpillow · 22/10/2022 11:50

DH liked to think of it as 'getting one over' on the industry 😆

That's how I view it. I mean if the company you are screwing over is a gambling company it makes it even sweeter

CaveMum · 22/10/2022 15:15

I did it for 2 years and made about £20k. By the end it was pretty much all casino offers (which are higher risk and you can lose money on them) but the money I was earning versus the time I had to spend (2-3 hours every evening) to get that money just didn’t add up.

The offers available are nowhere near as good as they used to be (frequent £50 free bets being offered, now you’re lucky to get £5/£10) and the bookies are wise to it so they watch accounts for suspicious signs (betting on random sporting events, etc) and restrict accounts quickly.

If the current Gambling Review goes through Parliament then MB is dead in the water as you will be required to give bookies proof of your income to demonstrate you can afford the bets.

@Coffeaddict thanks for answering. That makes sense. I assume you need to clear the betting company's anti-money laundering checks in order to open a betting account with them and they would have the details of your passport etc so there can be no false identity.

blanketyblank97 · 22/10/2022 17:24

@LydiaBennetsUglyBonnet your analogy of someone losing their job if they make a mistake?

Well if you're out of your depth with little training or the skills required to do your job, you're more likely to make a mistake? Agreed?

Surely matched betting is the same, you need to be able to understand the process, how it works and be able to work it all out, otherwise you're likely to make a mistake.

You surely understand that some people will be desperate to try, but make a complete balls up and end up losing money?

Yes. This is literally what everyone who has done matched betting is saying. What’s your point?

You surely understand that some people will be desperate to try, but make a complete balls up and end up losing money?

Well then don’t balls it up 🤣 my previous point stands - ballsing up can happen in any job but it’s the exception rather than the rule and doesn’t tend to happen.

What exactly is your point - that no one should do matched betting in case they make a mistake? Or that people need to be careful if they do take it up? Because the latter is a pretty good rule for anything a person decides to do.

Applesandcarrots · 22/10/2022 17:52

That explains a lot! I did all the welcome ones, some no risk casino and then I got 5, usually 1, sometimes 10 free bets for extra special events.
Always wondered how do people make xx thousand. I made 1k
