Hi. I know I let my anger run over me tonight, but I’m sick of this one ignorant rude young driver, who has done this a few times, not only to me but others.
driving up to my house, which is at the top of a very large hill. There is two give way stops halfway up the hill.
I have the right away as I’m coming up the hill. This girl, coming down the hill sees me, sits for a second, then decides to go. I’m driving around 20mph.
she knew I would need to stop and let her past, even though I had the right away.
I think she expected me to stop, but I just kept going. I just thought, she will need to reverse as I’m not moving. She stated beeping!
She pulled down the window and started screaming at me! Wtf! Saying I speed up. I just said, I had the right away and you saw me driving up the hill. I know I have pmt and crabit, but this really annoyed me!

I hope you have a dash cam op. If not I would recommend it. There seems to be more and more selfish and dangerous drivers. I have no idea if it's in the Highway Code but I was taught to give priority to those coming uphill.

Do you know where she lives, can you speak to her parents?

Spareline · 22/10/2022 12:24

This scenario happens a lot where I live. People just refuse to give way, even when they don’t have right of way, then all the other fuckwits try and follow them. It pisses me off so I keep driving and either make them back up or stop just forward enough to make it difficult for them to get past.

It’s one thing when someone pulls around an obstruction on their side because it’s genuinely hard to see, in that situation I would let them through. It’s quite another when they do it having seen you already and expect you to give way instead. They can get fucked.

YellowTreeHouse · 22/10/2022 12:27

If your “anger takes over sometimes”, you aren’t fit to drive because when you are annoyed you drive dangerously.

magicstar1 · 22/10/2022 12:30

Do you have a community police officer who could have a word with her?

Similar happened to me last week. City centre street, single track but two way with various places to pull in and give way. We turned into the street and a man at the other end accelerated harshly, driving past about four places to pull in to come nose to nose with us in seconds.

At the same time, a moped pulled out behind us and blocked us in Grin

We began to inch back slowly hoping moped would get the hint. Nothing but vacant staring, so we stopped. I leaned out the window and said you'll need to reverse or we'll be here all day?! "Oh sorry" he says, but doesn't move.

Complete stalemate for ages. We had nowhere to go, and neither male of the others seemed willing to backtrack. We just sat there til moped realised/gave up. That was fun.

GoldenHue · 22/10/2022 12:37

I’ve had this too, some barking mad man in a garden truck, towing a wood chopper type thing, just carried on driving through, when he was on the ‘give way to oncoming traffic side’. I sat there slowly clapping and he pulled alongside me, screaming a load of abuse!

I stared straight ahead, while he got over his rant, a queue of cars behind me! It was a moment I felt quite intimidated but I’d probably still do it again! He was a completely dick!

So YANBU to be annoyed and it was your right of way! Hopefully it will make her think!

Eatmycake3333 · 22/10/2022 12:40

Haha some of these comments are laughable. God good old mn. It can throw anything at you!

GoldenHue · 22/10/2022 12:41

I can only assume that the abusive dick in my case, couldn’t read, which makes me wonder if he should actually be driving at all!

woodhill · 22/10/2022 12:44

But don't you know he was more important with his wood chopping

I had this before with a van doing similar even though he could see I had waited patiently to let cars through on parked car side, I folded my arms

the lovely guy behind me got out and asked him to reverse

EarlofShrewsbury · 22/10/2022 12:12

@red4321

Yes, I'd have waited happily had they started to overtake. Except they didn't. There was one parked car and a straight piece of road. They chose to overtake when they should have stopped and given way.

Yeah, that would have pissed me off too.

red4321 · 22/10/2022 13:09

Actually I'm now doubting myself. So if they see me driving down the road, they're allowed to overtake a parked car even if they can't complete it so forcing me to brake and stop to let them through?

I have a couple of these priority to oncoming vehicle chicanes near me and no-one pays attention to them. I've a massive car and if it's my priority I just drive right at them and make them back up.

well quite rightly so. You have the right away. Let them reverse.

OP stop saying right away! It's RIGHT OF WAY.

SlouchingTowardsBethlehemAgain · 22/10/2022 13:14

Cringing for the pedants, let the OP use her own words.

BaggyAndWrinkled · 22/10/2022 13:18

TabithaTittlemouse · 21/10/2022 22:30

You had the right away?
I don’t think you did.

Haven't RTFT but shouldn't drivers on a single track always give way to vehicles coming up the road, so OP was technically correct?

Eatmycake3333 · 22/10/2022 13:21

yes I just had a look coming up my hill and there is def two signs coming up.

I try to comply with right of ways so it pisses me off when others push through. This happened one night when two cars decided to overtake a parked car on their side rather than wait for me to drive past.

I was sufficiently irritated to stop quite near to the parked car so they had to slow down and thought I'd finish off my displeasure with a few beeps of my horn.

Unfortunately the second car transpired to be a police car. As I drove past, they did a u-turn, sirens on and pulled me over for incorrect use of the horn. I was briefly tempted to point out it was my right of way but went for gushing apologies and was let off with a lecture.

Just in case anyone would like to learn from my mortification, it is not appropriate under the Highway Code to beep drivers abusing their right of way. Ahem.

Fuck me, they have time to do shit like this one-upmanship but you can wait forever if you've been attacked or burgled Halloween Angry

Kaliflower · 22/10/2022 13:24

100% with you. We keep having white vans doing this round here then all the cars behind them follow!!

I had 3 motorbikes do it a month ago, they were in a group - so dangerous!!

Last night white van man swore at dh as dh gestured angrily at him for pushing through when not his right of way - HE was in the wrong but swearing at us!! We would have parked up and blocked him but had baby in the car.

I've said next person to do it, I'm not moving. Fucking ridiculous and it's always men!!!!

red4321 · 22/10/2022 13:26

I spent so long deflecting about what a dreadful day I was having and how terribly sorry i was to have misused my horn that the policeman ended up asking me if there was anything he could do to help...

He very proudly told me that I'd saved the driver of the van from getting three points for using his phone while driving. As he'd had to prioritise my incorrect horn use over that. Hmmm.

woodhill · 22/10/2022 13:28

That's bonkers

Surely using the phone was dangerous
