Alternatively, what's the most recommended musical or theatre play in London no and in the next 3-6 months? Will be taking Dn 13 and 10.

It's not for me, but others love it so it depends what you like.

Alternatives could be Wicked, Lion King, Back to the Future? Whatever version of The Play That Goes Wrong?

RoachTheHorse · 21/10/2022 09:31

It is but for those ages I'd probably go to Six unless they're already firm theatre buffs.

Hoppinggreen · 21/10/2022 09:32

I did wonder why all the hype but I watched it on Disney+ and really enjoyed it (not the same as live I know). I’m not sure a 10 year old would really appreciate it though.
I recently saw Back to The Future in the West End and loved it, it was really funny

Kanaloa · 21/10/2022 09:32

I mean we loved it but it depends doesn’t it? Objectively you would probably have to admit it is ‘good’ to some extent because it did very well and won awards, but that doesn’t mean you’ll like it.

You’d maybe get better suggestions if you said who the people going will be, some other things they’ve enjoyed etc.

TheFlis12345 · 21/10/2022 09:32

It’s absolutely amazing but maybe not the most suitable for a 10 year old, there is some swearing (f word) and ‘adult themes’.

Kanaloa · 21/10/2022 09:33

Oh sorry I see it’s just you and your nephews? Either way I’d look at what sort of thing they enjoy. If they’re Potterheads the Harry Potter play will appeal. Otherwise it depends what they like.

FaazoHuyzeoSix · 21/10/2022 09:34

Hamilton is brilliant but I wouldn't take a 10yo.

Wicked, Six or Come from Away.

Hobbesmanc · 21/10/2022 09:45

Its really popular with teens. I thought it was a great spectacle but I did struggle a bit with the music- but I'm old! Wicked is amazing and filled with themes that will resonate with young people. And everyone will love Back to the future

Madagascary · 21/10/2022 09:50

Hamilton is soooo long

mummatobeat33 · 21/10/2022 09:54

The lion king is a fab show for teens. Not sure what else is currently on but hamilton is a long show!

AFS1 · 21/10/2022 10:04

Hamilton is a fantastic musical. We binge-watched it on Disney + and then went to see it live last Christmas. Kids were 13 and 7 at the time and both really enjoyed the experience of seeing it live. 7 yr old got a bit restless towards the end of the first half, but a fistful of jelly babies in the interval got him through the rest of it! We’re off to see it again as a joint Christmas present this year and can’t wait.

My now 14 yr old loves Six but it is really short! It’s only just over an hour.
Wicked is brilliant. So is Matilda. At 10 and 13 they would probably cope with Les Mis but it is very long.

trussedchicken · 21/10/2022 10:14

We love Hamilton. However, it's heavy going and I only saw it live having first watched it a couple of times on Disney+ (with subtitles!). My 12 year old loves musicals and is into history so she adoreed it. However my 15 year old thinks it's boring and didn't want to come with us, so we just took the 12 year old. For those ages, I would highly recommend Back To The Future. Make sure they've seen the movie though. When I went, there were a couple of people who had never seen the movie (I know!!) and they just weren't fully appreciative of just how great the stage adaption is. It really was fantastic and really funny. The guy playing George McFly is absolutely superb in the role.

Stickortwister · 21/10/2022 10:38

Not a musical but life of pi was AMAZING and would be great for that age.

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2022 10:40

I loved it and we took my 12 year old as dh couldn’t make it. He loved it too but is a bit older

FirewomanSam · 21/10/2022 10:41

I love Hamilton but Back to the Future would be a great shout for kids that age!

Hbh17 · 21/10/2022 10:44

It's far and away the best show in London, but a 10 year old might be a bit too young.

bigbadbarry · 21/10/2022 10:45

I think it is fabulous but would only take a 10 year old who already knew the music - it moves fast and is hard to follow and I think they'd be a bit bored. Matilda is great for all ages, or Wicked.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 21/10/2022 10:45

My then 11yo and I love it. However we already had the soundtrack and knew it well. Hamilton is sung through and some of the wordplay is really fast, so I wonder if it might be less accessible if you came to it cold IYSWIM?

PosiePerkinPootleFlump · 21/10/2022 10:46

My 10 year old loved Hamilton but was already completely obsessed with the soundtrack before we booked tickets. From 'cold' I think there are better things for 10 year olds. But not Six. Six is total shite and a waste of time and money.
Agreed with other posters it depends what kind of things they like

MarshaBradyo · 21/10/2022 10:46

Hbh17 · 21/10/2022 10:44

It really is. We’ve seen a fair few musicals and Hamilton was insanely good

Jenn3112 · 21/10/2022 11:02

Agree with other saying Hamilton is amazing but not for those ages, repeated bad language and adult themes. Watch the Disney+ version if you are not sure, although they took a couple of swear words out of that to lower the age rating.

Hopelessacademic · 21/10/2022 11:02

I started watching it on Disney+ and thought it was awful sorry!

Wicked is brilliant though. Not seen it but lots of people have told me six is great too.

Redkettle · 21/10/2022 11:05

Hamilton is amazing but better when you know the songs already so u can understand what's going on.

Redkettle · 21/10/2022 11:06

Six is also good. Bednobs and broomsticks was incredible but wicked was boring and shrieky

Lewiscapaldiscat · 21/10/2022 11:13

We took two 9 year olds and a 7 year old who are all obsessed with it.
you need to have watched it and listened to the music before going to get the most out of it.

all personal, but it’s the most incredible show I have ever seen and I’ve seen alot! I cried - I don’t cry - not even when I had my children!
