Please no

AutumnCrow · 20/10/2022 12:37

That's like putting Sir Les Patterson in charge

CaveMum · 20/10/2022 12:43

I'm just listening to the latest "The Rest is Politics" podcast as I work (and skulk about on MN!). Highly recommend it!

Anyone spot the squirrel released by Ben Wallace about a missile being shot at a British plane on a routine patrol over Ukraine?

On the 29th September.

Kept that under wraps, didn't they??

That's standard whilst diplomatic channels are used to deescalate.

Language is important here...the statement made clear that the missile wasn't shot at a British plane, sounds more like Russian finger trouble/technical problems led to the missile departing from the fighter that was carrying it.

Chairman of the Conservative party just arrived at no 10.

Front door this time!

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2022 12:50

Apparently Truss asked Brady about the mood of the party.

That says to me she is seriously considering her position.

It's got to be an absolute out side choice they can rally round and calm it all down or a heavy hitter but they can't bring back Boris surely!

Maybe Hunt can double hat?

This has made me laugh. How can she not know the mood of the party?

Dave20 · 20/10/2022 12:55

But the Tory members knew what Truss was going to do. She said she’d cut taxes and Sunak said that the markets would be unsettled and that interest rates would rise.
Sunak was right.
What they said would happen did. Why are the Tory members surprised about Truss?

Maybe. She probably wants to know exactly how many letters of no confidence have been written.

CaveMum · 20/10/2022 12:56

Re the "The Rest is Politics" podcast I mentioned I was listening to, Alistair Campbell said he thinks that what makes Liz Truss so dangerous is that she, unlike a lot of people, does not appear to suffer from imposter syndrome - she genuinely thinks that she is 100% right and that she fully deserves to be where she is due to her own hard work. Someone like that is incredibly hard to reason with.

RedToothBrush · 20/10/2022 12:58

Party chairman now in the meeting with Brady, Coffey and Truss.

ChimneyPot · 20/10/2022 12:59

They would need to change the rules of the Tory party to chose a successor without it going to the members.
Who would have to sign off on the rule change?
Or can they change the PM by a vote of MPs but leave Truss as a nominal party leader?

They make up whatever rules they like, but I suppose if they wanted it to appear somewhat above board they could put it to an MP vote - ie. should members get to decide or MPs.

He should know.

Dave20 · 20/10/2022 13:09

I can’t imagine anyone really wanting to be the next Tory PM. The shit pile is too deep.
Sunak?.. would he really want the stress? Seeing as he was turned down before too.

hesbeingabitofadick · 20/10/2022 13:10

I suspect there will be a lot of editing to HIGNFY tomorrow evening...

SleeplessInEngland · 20/10/2022 13:11

I doubt Eton-educated Cameron or Johnson ever suffered from imposter syndrome at a single moment in their lives either.

Someone from twitter just posited this amusing thought experiment: if someone in 2010 told you there'd be 5 tory Prime Ministers before the next Labour government, how many decades would you have assumed that meant?
