Aibu to drink this? I just randomly fancy it tonight. Whats your weird alcohol combo?

That wouldn't be weird in Spain. You can buy it ready bottled. Very refreshing in summer.

GardenShack · 18/10/2022 21:52

I love that drink! Haven't had it for years...I may have one next time I'm out 🙂

DarlingDarwin · 18/10/2022 22:00

That’s sangria.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 18/10/2022 22:01

Sounds like a simplified version of sangria!

EspressoPatronum · 18/10/2022 22:02

Tinto de Verano. Lush. The only way to drink red wine imo!

RagzRebooted · 18/10/2022 22:04

Vodka, Stella, red wine and Lilt. It was the morning after a Y2K party, everyone was asleep and there was a lot of random booze leftover. I kept mixing until I created this masterpiece. I then slept for a day and woke up at home!

I can't honestly remember how it tasted, but I should definitely have stopped at vodka with Lilt.

I lived in Chile when I was younger and red wine and Coke was a common party drink among young people (I was in my 20s then) - could never get my head round that one.

Red wine and lemonade, not so bad. Basically simplified sangria - chuck a slice of orange and a wee dash of brandy in it if you have it in the house?

AliTheMinx · 18/10/2022 22:17

Tia Maria and lemonade...gorgeous! Just like chocolate orange x

Travelbunny · 18/10/2022 22:19

I need to try it!

HobnobsChoice · 18/10/2022 22:21

Red wine and coke/Pepsi. It's a Basque drink called Kalimotxo apparently created when the red wine delivered to a bar was pretty undrinkable. They drink it in Chile too but call it jote. I have a small amount of Chilean heritage and joke this is why I am the only British born person in England who likes it.

Drank it many times in Spain as a teenager 😂

HighlandPony · 18/10/2022 22:28

Totally going to get slated for this but when I was pregnant with eldest (when advice was 2 or 3 units a week was fine) I developed a taste for lager topped off with cream soda. Sort of like a lager tops but 1/3 lager to 2/3 cream soda instead of lemonade. I still like it.

AdmiralJaneway · 18/10/2022 22:29

I drink red wine like that if it’s a bit strong - now I know to call it a Tinto de Verano!

Jote, of course! I had forgotten what it was called.

I do remember the brand of red wine most commonly used, though - I think it was called Gato Negro and came in a 1L Tetrapak carton?

FlirtyMelons · 18/10/2022 22:38

I love tinto de verano, I drink it in Spain every time I'm there, so refreshing, i dont understand why so many people are saying you're unreasonable, its on the drinks menu everywhere in Spain. We tried red wine and coke also, it's pretty nice.

ChateauxNeufDePoop · 18/10/2022 22:59

From many moons ago.... Lambranta

Lambrini and fanta.

Sweet, gassy, and not too classy.

How bizarre.

My son recently mentioned how some friends of his drank this a few years ago, and I wondered where on earth they got duch a foul idea...now I know...its a thing!

Thanks

AriettyHomily · 18/10/2022 23:40

My Spanish mate drinks red wine with coke. It's horrid! Her theory is you get the drunkenness of the red wine without he fall asleep element because of the caffeine:)

Lincslady53 · 19/10/2022 06:26

I like a strong orange squash, with a very small, large slug of spiced rum, to give it a bit of flavour.

They drink it in Hungary too! Generally with very rough red wine.

digestivebiscu1t · 19/10/2022 06:31

Aah, kalimotxo and tinto de verano...happy (if hazy 🥴) memories of an Erasmus year in Spain in the 90s!

Do you use full fat Coke or Diet Coke?

Dilbertian · 19/10/2022 07:39

Red wine and proper Coke - I thought I was the only person who drank this! Had no idea it was a thing until reading this thread. I invented it for myself it at a student party decades ago, when the only non-vodka alcoholic drink left was red plonk.

Dilbertian · 19/10/2022 07:47

Something else I invented around the same time, for when I didn't want alcohol, was grapefruit juice and Coke. Grapefruit first, in a highball, then gently add the Coke so that the two don't mix. About 1 juice to 2-3 Coke. Looks revolting Grin

The way the contrasting flavours and textures come through as you drink is lovely.

VestaTilley · 19/10/2022 07:52

Sounds like sangria.

It wouldn’t do for me, but each to their own.
