We should have a general election?

The government is in a mess. It looks like Truss might go only a month after becoming Prime Minister. If she goes, there should be a general election. One Prime Minister unelected by the public I can accept, but not two.

So either Truss stays, or if she can't then we should have a general election.

You should realise that we are governed not by the people but by the markets. Hunt gave a Labour budget today in reversing the conservative budget that got Truss elected that the markets didn’t like and trashed. Truss tried to put some clear blue water between the parties and go for low tax small state but was thwarted by her misunderstanding of the way the markets would react. There is practically no difference between the parties except Hunt is probably more competent in sorting this mess out. Labour will get us deeper into it as they did in every time elected.

Definitely. Why keep the chaos going? In any other job or situation, she would be sacked. It doesn't make sense to allow the Tories to continue to wreck the lives of those loving in the UK (bar the wealthy who are not affected ).

i agree with you OP but sadly there won't be a snap election.

Also, there are no alternatives as the other 2 parties are just as bad as the Torys. We are a 1-party state.

Even if a Conservative PM got elected that would be democratic. What is happening is very undemocratic.

Hard to quantify but, according to betting markets, about a 1 in 14 chance this year, and a little less than a 1 in 3 chance of one next year.

Honestly I think that’s generous, I don’t expect one before 2024.

This is nonsense the tories have caused all the major economic disasters in this country with the exception of the crash of 2008 which was caused by Lehman's, this is just demonstrably untrue

Why would labour be just as bad? The public now knows the Tory myth of only they can govern effectively is just that- a myth.

Not going to happen and neither should it right now.

Labour need to come up with some credible policies in order to make themselves electable. Because right now there are too many people who, while they won’t vote tori, won’t vote labour either. And “I want the tories out” isn’t a good enough reason to have an election when you have no idea what you’re actually voting for. “Be careful what you wish for” springs to mind.

As for the pp and other posters who revert to calling anyone with an opposing view a “tori twat,” the best way to lose an argument is to resort to personal insults. It’s not big and it’s not clever.
