AIBU?
To think it doesn’t feel like Autumn?
Teenytinyfeet · 17/10/2022 11:12
Not sure about where you are, but here it’s been consistently 17/18 degrees pretty much everyday in October. Today it’s 18 degrees again, I’ve still got the fan on at night as my room is still 20/21 degrees every evening.
We haven’t put the log burner on once yet and we’re mid October, the heating has clicked on a couple of times in the last week or so first thing in the morning and later evening but that’s about it.
Obviously with the price of heating this winter it’s a good thing, but I do love Autumn and it just doesn’t feel very autumnal to me. Most of the trees round here still have all their leaves, the trees in our garden still have all their leaves, the oak tree is starting to golden but still hasn’t dropped many, usually the grass is full of leaves by now.
After a never ending scorching summer, I’ve been looking forward to a hot chocolate in front of the fire and wearing my new winter coat…neither will be happening for a while looking at the temperatures for the next 10 days.
Anyone else think we’re having an unusually warm October?
Am I being unreasonable?

I think it's great but not that unusual. DH's birthday is at the end of October and most years the weather is good. Usually still T. shirt weather. My birthday is mid June and it is usually cold.
I like not having to wear jumpers and coats. I hate restrictive clothes
ThreeblackCats · 17/10/2022 11:17
Although it’s still reasonably mild here, (West Midlands) we have had the heating on a few times.
Its blustery, we’ve had plenty of rain, the leaves have definitely changed colour, it’s very much like autumn here. Mild, but October often is mild. Even November can still be glorious.
Chickenpeppers · 17/10/2022 11:18
Feels like autumn to me, been getting down to 5°c at night and around 12°c in the day, all the trees are a mixture of red, yellow and orange foliage, there's crunchy leaves, acorns and conkers all over the ground, most people have started wearing their bobble hats and coats. I love smelling people's log fires when I walk home from work. I'm looking forward to it getting colder and seeing the transition from autumn to winter
luxxlisbon · 17/10/2022 11:18
It’s really not that unusual. People clearly have short memories.
October is often mild, but it’s cold in the morning and overnight. Feels totally different to 17degrees in the summer.
xogossipgirlxo · 17/10/2022 11:19
I think every other year it's like that. Same with winter- one year it seems mild, then next year it's freakishly cold and snows often. I'm quite pleased with current weather due to the reason you said- gas bills.
luxxlisbon · 17/10/2022 11:20
and wearing my new winter coat…neither will be happening for a while looking at the temperatures for the next 10 days.
This is unusual, I’m down south and everyone I see are wearing coats. Most people clearly don’t feel it is scorching.
WildStoner · 17/10/2022 11:23
8c, very windy and its raining, I'm happy to take some of that heat off your hands 😂
SpringRainbow · 17/10/2022 11:26
There is usually a point in Spring where I never know what to wear, do I wear my warm clothes or my cooler clothes. Sometimes it just feels like a lucky dip. I am sort of used to this period of time in Spring.
However, I am starting to feel like that at the minute. I never know what to wear one day to the next. Some days it’s been freezing but other days it’s been quite warm. I’m not used to this at this time of year.
Numbat2022 · 17/10/2022 11:32
October is often lovely and mild, it doesn't feel unusual to me. Maybe a bit warmer than usual but nothing major. The trees are beautiful, conkers and acorns on the ground, mornings are chilly and it's been raining quite a lot. Definitely autumnal.
We normally get cold weather in January and February (and March/April some years). My birthday is in November and it's usually 9 degrees and cloudy, definitely not big coat weather.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 17/10/2022 11:33
Feels like a lovely Autumn to me, it's often really mild. My favourite time of the year .
Badgirlriri · 17/10/2022 11:37
We’re in the south and experiencing the same.
Very mild. The leaves are starting to change but it’s still sunny and I don’t need to wear a coat yet.
mondaytosunday · 17/10/2022 11:42
It is mild during the day, but chilly at night and the leaves are all changing. The Christmas ads are starting (and I've done my Christmas food order - delivery slots already booked so have to collect). Pumpkins are around.
Feels like autumn to me.
Kissingfrogs25 · 17/10/2022 11:51
We are in the south west and it feels like a warm summers day.
I think we can only be grateful and hope it continues, and will help with the bills no end.
Hot chocolate will most definitely happen in January so don't wish away our warm golden season!!
Kissingfrogs25 · 17/10/2022 11:52
No coats,
No jumpers even
No heating
Beautiful sunshine
How can you not love it!
summergone · 17/10/2022 11:52
Feels very mild to me , I'm normally cold by now but am fine so far . Beginning to think it's the start of the menopause thou as I'm never this warm in October 😂
OnBoardTheHeartOfGold · 17/10/2022 11:53
Yes, very mild. My windows are open all day and night and I still feel too warm at times.
TwitchyJerk · 17/10/2022 11:55
You can put a fire on Netflix and cuddle up with your hot chocolate and the window open! X
TheWitchersWife · 17/10/2022 11:56
I'm in the Midlands. I went out in a summer dress, thin cardigan, sunglasses and summer hat yesterday.
But I might be the only one not feeling the cold as i saw a lot of people in wellies and puffa coats.
But I'm sure it's not nearly as chilly as it usually is this time of year.
thelobsterquadrille · 17/10/2022 11:56
Definitely does here - 40mph gusts of wind, storms and leaves all over the spot.
It's not particularly cold but it definitely feels like autumn!
ilovesooty · 17/10/2022 12:00
romany4 · 17/10/2022 11:28
You clearly don't live in Northern England then...
Exactly. It's 13 degrees here.
I'm sure the OP will be able to have her hot chocolate in front of her fire and wear her winter coat in due course.
stemthetide · 17/10/2022 12:01
Plenty of sunshine where I am but maximum 12/13C so yes it does feel quite autumnal. Evenings are chilly.
Dynamicdinosaur · 17/10/2022 12:02
It's fabulous, there will be plenty of wet grey foggy cold weather to for months. make the most of it
