Are people that want zero immigration racist?

People that moan about migrants coming to this county - taking our jobs - taking our houses - draining the medical system - not settling in the first country they reach for asylum- they're racist right?

There will always be an element of migration and when you take account of UK born people that leave and non Uk people that enter our country, the net figure is no doubt reasonable. They are often willing to work and contribute to our society and economy - so why the hostility?

Why not accept as a country that we have en element of migration and embrace that, if not because your views are racist?

A question for those who think anyone should be able to go and live wherever they like, do you think I could do that in Canada, USA, Switzerland, Australia etc etc? ? I quite fancy a better standard of living myself, but you know what? I would not be allowed do so unless I met the requirements, and quite rightly, a view no doubt agreed with by the vast majority of taxpayers in those countries. Why don't you go and protest about those places?

I don't know anyone who wants 0%. I'm concerned about immigration levels though.

Neither do I. Managed migration, and support for genuine refugees is what most people consider fair, in my experience. The thousands of mainly men, who are arriving by the boatload and being housed in hotels, should be a priority for the government.

The Home Office needs to take on and train case workers to tackle the back log. Those with no valid asylum claim have no right to stay, and should be removed. Those who are given leave to remain, can work and support themselves. They can then go through the proper channels to get permanent residency, and to bring their close family (husbands, wives, children) here.

Emma09125 · 18/02/2023 17:52

How do they get to pick their country though? I thought asylum was the next nearest safe country. How do they end up in the UK? I'm not being disrespectful I just don't understand how it works.

because many have relatives already living in the UK. I had family here before arriving 8 years ago from an asian country and have more family going through the process. Do you not think families should be together?

user1496262496 · 18/02/2023 18:13

Entirely reasonable… so long as they also demand that the 200 million people that make up the British Diaspora return to this country.

Emma09125 · 18/02/2023 18:15

No, you don't get to do that ! It's argumentive & rude! You stated you worked for migration I asked as it's your profession, not for your emotional response !

As one of the richest countries in the world we should be building more houses for those who wish to come here. There is also the small matter of financial reparations for colonialism from the British Empire which needs to be addressed. It's strange, but I don't see much mention of it in the media which makes me think it is all being brushed under the carpet.

How about some houses for the people already here and paying in for a change

I didn't think it would take long

Xenia · 18/02/2023 18:44

We have about 18m more people here than when I was born and not enough money, housing, NHS capacity etc. I would prefer we lost about 20m people through encouragement for any kind of people to leave and moved to a position of more leaving than coming each year but we are where we are.

We are moving into unprecedented times of climate change and certain countries are becoming increasingly popular. It may be we simply will not be able to accommodate everyone who wants to come here even if the law currently allows them to come. We may need to change the law.

Emma09125 · 18/02/2023 18:48

Just make sure your not bleating on about the environment & green space as your requesting for more housing. The two are contradictory

I doubt it's anything to do with actual race but more to do with the fact we are a tiny island, whose population has grown massively since the 50s and is actually causing many services to be at breaking point. We have too many people.

Although the people from this Island had no issue doing this to others?? I find comments like this very ironic

boabitybowster · 18/02/2023 18:53

@Xenia Where would you like these 20m people to go to? So you think we need to lose just under a third of the country's population?

IWishItWasChristmas · 18/02/2023 18:54

There are plenty of green spaces that can be built on. There are also lots of single people living in houses which have more than 2 bedrooms so why can't they move to suitable one bedroom places when families from war torn countries arrive with children? I don't think it is unreasonable to say a family with young children arriving in the Uk should be prioritised over a single person for accommodation. It should be on a need basis not persecuting those who are not " British" unless people want a housing policy based on racism.

Emma09125 · 18/02/2023 19:00

My comment is racist so don't imply it is. I just it's people trying to save the environment going on about immigration, you cant have both. im inDevon & the green space is being built on, there's protests about it everywhere. They don't build social housing which is whats needed, what they build instead is PRIVET uni pads for a nice price of 1,400 a month. It's beyond ridiculous. & yes I totally agree that people should be housed in homes they need space wise. I'm in privet rent. Believe me it angers me paying 3 times the social housing costs when social housing have spare bedrooms!

At least you admit it

Emma09125 · 18/02/2023 19:02

Not even gonna entertain you on that. Clearly a miss spell

Hope551 · 18/02/2023 19:03

Not sure on racism aspect. I think it depends on the individuals reason for not wanting it.

I think our process for immigration is rubbish and really not working. Chucking them all into hotels whilst not allowing them to work is what causing services and economy to shut down. I mean it doesn't work for anyone. Not sure how long process takes to make them legal, think it can be a year. So for that year they are stuck unable to do anything. We can't use their skill set in the work force, meaning they can't contribute to the economy yet obviously they need to use the local over run services. They hate it, everyone hates it. Some of them might of been a doctor in their country, what a waste.

woodhill · 18/02/2023 19:04

@IWishItWasChristmas

Well isn't it a valid point?

What about the people already here on the housing list, why shouldn't they be housed?

FeelingwearyFeeelingsmall · 18/02/2023 19:07

I think anyone who wants zero immigration is deluded and racist.

No, if you are saying that immigrants don't deserve the same rights as people already living here, then that I'm afraid is racism as you are discriminating based on race.

purpledalmation · 18/02/2023 19:09

No problem with legal migration and people who come to work short term from EU.

frustratednomad · 18/02/2023 19:09

@IWishItWasChristmas so you want people who were born here and lived here all their lives to give up their homes to allow anyone from another country to live in, or even be moved down the housing list. You're having a laugh.

woodhill · 18/02/2023 19:13

Sorry but why do they have the same rights if they haven't made any contribution to the infrastructure of the country or have the vote

The UK wasn't always affluent and the working classes weren't treated very well
