To not get the Karen’s Diner concept?

So I get that the staff are suppose to be rude and tell you to fuck off to then make you a “Karen”.

But I don’t get why you’d want to be verbally abused and apparently the food isn’t great either - this apparently means I have no sense of humour.

If its not your humour then fine but other people are allowed to enjoy it. Its been popular in Australia and america for years its a chain theres one in Birmingham and Manchester.

The staff are rude to you and you are supposed to be rude back to them, its banter everyone is in on the joke thats the whole point.

I dont agree with children going there but i do see why adults would find it harmless fun. Its not personally for me i would hate to be insulted and would be too polite to dish out harsh words 🤣

Been popular for years? … it was founded in 2021 😂

The whole thing makes me cringe. I've come across a couple of clips from their restaurants online, and I'd find it quite amusing if they were actually funny, but it's too try-hard. Not for me.

Is saying someone looks bulimic lighthearted?

Some people enjoy dark humour. Theres no way to "look bulimic".

No one is forcing you to go so not sure why you have a bee in your bonnet? Do you try and police people going to live comedy shows if you dont like the comedian?

AutumnScream · 15/10/2022 17:16

Karens may have been founded in 21 but the concept of rude dining has been going for years sorry to burst your ignorant bubble

Danikm151 · 15/10/2022 17:17

There’s a place in the states called Dicks last resort. It works there because customer service is the be all and end all and Dick’s goes against that.
the food and drinks are brill though

Yes. That is how I spend my free time. Shouting at people going to a Jimmy Carr show.

Or you know this is just a discussion and a not that deep debate? No one has to have a “bee in their bonnet” over it ….. kind of weird reaction but ok.

Bee in bonnet. You are the one moaning about how you dont like it. As you said its a discussion yet you seem annoyed that some people both enjoy going to karens and that some people support peoples right to enjoy going to karens.

Back in the Stone Age, when my friends and I all worked in London, we'd often go to Wong Kei's on Wardour Street for dinner. The staff there were SPECTACULARLY rude, but the food was cheap and decent so we enjoyed it.

This Karen's Diner thing doesn't look quite so much fun, but I guess its something for resting actors to do!

I wouldn't eat there but I'd probably like to work there.

AutumnScream · 15/10/2022 17:30

Ah is this a clever switcharoo! Which branch do you work at?

YellowTreeHouse · 15/10/2022 17:31

It’s funny, and it’s basically how hospitality workers should be able to speak to customers (and how they all want to 😂).

The general public are dickheads. It makes sense 😅

EleanorRavenclaw · 15/10/2022 17:32

Like PP I watched some clips online recently and I found it quite funny but no way would I want to go. I was also really surprised to see kids in there the language is pretty full on. One of the clips showed a lad with a disability going in and to be fair I thought they pitched it really well with him, he was howling laughing. I guess if you go you've really got to know what you are letting yourself in for.

Lesserspotteddogfish · 15/10/2022 17:32

It’s not something I would enjoy, but I suppose it’s a good idea from the restaurants point of view. They can’t have any complaints or bad reviews about rude staff if that’s the whole point of it.

Teddysarockstar · 15/10/2022 17:33

I think a lot of people go with people that dont know what its about so they cn see them being shocked.

But yeah im not a fan

I went to a diner in Chicago founded years ago

food was average. Insults were weak

Soubriquet · 15/10/2022 17:34

I really wanna go. Looks like fun to me

AutumnScream · 15/10/2022 17:35

Its a shame wong kei changed that used to be legendary for bad service and even fist fights. Best part having the food just lobbed down in front of you without a care. Havent been in years but apparently its more relaxed now and staff aren't terrible which is a pity.

WingsgivenbyRedBull · 15/10/2022 17:38

Ignoring the looney

Anyway reading the reviews I think I could understand it more if it was quick witted banter but some say it’s just them swearing and sticking their fingers up - guess it depends on the branch/server.

But I don’t see it lasting that long regardless.

If i could get over my politeness to strangers thing i would join you in going haha

Soubriquet · 15/10/2022 17:40

I live no where near or I would.

In fact not only would I go, my entire family would go kids an all.

We would all enjoy it

Dogsogdog · 15/10/2022 17:43

I’ve been, food was fine, it was good for a bit of novelty, they were playing games and stuff like that too
