It seems to me there are a lot of people who value dogs higher than they do people and treat them better ?

Do you agree ? Do you do this ?

Not me, can’t stand the filthy vermin.

But I’m hearing it a lot, and they are proud of it. Bizarre. It’s just an admission of social ineptitude wrapped in faux pride. They don’t realise they just look crazy. Can’t put in the effort with people, but a dog doesn’t “judge”. Well no. And it doesn’t love you either – it just likes being fed by you. Fool.

Most sickening us when people admit they prefer their mutt to their own children. Sick. Poor kids.

I haven’t seen anyone on here admit that they prefer their dog to their child, or condoning that.

But given that dogs aren’t vermin (by any definition of the word) and you’re being downright unpleasant about people who are doing nothing wrong, I think you’re just looking to get a rise.

Sparklingbrook · 14/10/2022 08:56

You don’t have to feel sorry for me because I don’t like dogs. 😂

Naunet · 14/10/2022 08:57

I prefer animals in general to people. Probably related to childhood trauma, but I find them more trustworthy, predictable and easier to read. I feel safer with animals I guess. Do I treat them better than people? I’m not really sure what that means. I treat them with kindness and respect, but I don’t treat them like people, if that’s what you mean?

123ROLO · 14/10/2022 08:57

I'm not going to answer the who would I save question.

Dogs and other humans enrich my lives in very different ways I can't say which one I prefer.

I find dogs a pure, calming effect, and everything my dog does makes me go aww (well, almost everything).

But if I was going through a tough time, cuddling by dog would help, but wouldn't replace a person to confide in.

A dog can make me laugh by doing something stupid, but a person will make me laugh by telling me a joke.

Some days cuddling my dog on the settee is just what I need, other days going for a meal and drinks with my friends is what I need.

They are very different, but both very valuable to me

girlmom21 · 14/10/2022 08:58

@tvluv why is that a ridiculous comparison? You're the one making us choose between humans and dogs - so I'm comparing a human who relies on me the same amount as my dog does.

Badgirlriri · 14/10/2022 09:00

OoooohMatron · 14/10/2022 08:17

If your cat/dog dies the only person that is sad is you. Yes it's upsetting but honestly a pet can be replaced in time and you would love the new pet just as much. If a person dies they leave children, parents, lifelong friends etc who's lives are affected by grief that never fully goes away.

Bullshit. Why are other peoples feelings more important than your own?!

Lalalolol · 14/10/2022 09:00

tvluv · 14/10/2022 08:38

That is an absolutely ridiculous comparison to make.

No it's not. In her opinion, a pet is like a family.
Do you often imagine hierarchy within your family to determine who would you save first? Seriously, you guys need to find something to do. No wonder productivity in UK is so low in recent times. I can't believe that this is the country which gave the world so many innovations in science and technology in the past, and now a portion of population wants to argue over importance of dogs versus friends.

Doggiedoodoos · 14/10/2022 09:01

Dogs here are like our children. We value them and love them.

Dumbo18 · 14/10/2022 09:03

Imagine watching a family grieve over losing a child knowing you could have helped but saved a dog instead 😂 the world has gone mad! Sorry your loved one died in a burning building and I could have saved them but I had to get my chihuahua out first. I hope none of your family members are ever in a situation where they need help and the only person around is a dog lover 😂 sure you’d feel different then

Or maybe they can blame the fire service for not turning up fast enough?! It’s no ones job to jump into burning buildings to save others anyway (fire service aside, obviously). These made up scenarios are so weird!

InTheNightWeWillWish · 14/10/2022 09:07

Well I treat my dogs better than a random stranger, I feed them daily, I give them a home, I keep them warm and healthy. I wouldn’t do that with a stranger. I like my dogs more than some people because they’re family. I don’t like all dogs more than people, I dislike some dogs, like I dislike some people.

The question of who you would save is completely ridiculous as it varies on so much and what your instincts are doing. The Highway Code says that if there is a bird/cat/dog coming into the line of traffic that you should first check your mirrors and check the car behind you isn’t too close to stop safely. If they are too close, you should hit the animal. If they aren’t you gently apply the brakes. However, if something goes in front of you car your instinct is to break until your brain works out whether it’s something that is going to cause you to crash and injure yourself, a person, a kid or an animal. So by default many people would probably brake for animal that went in front of their car and that might endanger the person behind them. It’s not valuing animals above the random stranger behind them but it is realising that you car is about to hit something and you don’t know what it is so you better brake anyway.

kingtamponthefurred · 14/10/2022 09:07

There certainly are such people. I think they are generally inadequate people who find human relationships very complex and demanding and retreat to something simpler.

mydogisthebest · 14/10/2022 09:08

I love my dogs and I love my family. Not so keen on other humans on the whole.

Of course it’s no one’s job to run into a burning building but if you are willing to run into one that has a dog or a child surely you’d be pulling the child out?

Babdoc · 14/10/2022 09:11

I can’t stand dogs. Have been attacked by them twice as a child and once as an adult, unprovoked every time. Vile, smelly, slobbering savage creatures. No contest as far as I’m concerned! But I adore cats…

Vates · 14/10/2022 09:12

I adore animals. I find human beings very mixed and often boring (but I am admitting it now, I do suffer from very poor mental health). I would be useless in an emergency so don't what I would do, the dog and the stranger would probably both die. I don't have any pets of my own but spend lots of time with my Sister's dog whilst she's at work. When out and about dogs bring a smile to my face whereas seeing random people about not so much.

Why do I have to pick one or the other?! It’s a silly scenario, and frankly someone could save the child but still prefer dogs to children. It’s not an all or nothing thing.

This venom only exists online where insecure people hit the full stop at the end of their sermon, then sit back from the screen proud of how erudite they, erroneously, imagine they sound.

There is nothing savage about my little Beagle girl.

Surely it depends on the person. I would save my dogs over some scumbag human but if it was a sweet innocent child then it would a different matter.

Ok don’t pick one or the other, go back in twice save the child and then the dog or don’t go in at all. I just find it hard to believe that people would save a dog over a child.

As someone who wasn’t keen on dogs growing up but has now had 2 dogs in my adult life I find it very strange when people say they hate dogs. You can’t say you hate all dogs. It’s like saying you hate all humans.
I adore dogs, I lost my beloved dog 2 months ago and the grief is worse than the grief I’ve experienced from losing some of the humans in my life.
I have some wonderful humans in my life and some fucking shit ones too. I would save my dog over that latter any day. Let’s hope none of us are ever in that awful scenario.
You only have to see the poor people fleeing Ukraine with their dogs in their arms, they mean so much to so many people.
Dogs truly are wonderful creatures and if you’ve had dogs and don’t feel that, then that’s just weird imo.

I hate dogs. I hate their stench. I hate their panting. I hate their energy. I hate their wagging annoying tails. I hate their filthy, lolling out slobbery tongue. I hate their shit, everywhere. I hate dog culture. I hate seeing dogs in restaurants and supermarkets. I hate how they bite people. I hate how nine people have been mauled to death by them this year, in the UK. Many more worldwide. I hate how they mean other animals must die, to feed them. (I'm vegan, no animal dies to feed me.). I hate how so many people have become so stupid about dogs. I hate finding their hairs in my hotel room. I hate their stupid eyes, especially when they are gunky. I hate the yapping, barking, whining, howling. I hate being jumped at. I hate that they try to knock my children over. I hate that they scrape their anuses across the carpet, where kids are then supposed to sit. I hate the sound of their scratchy claws on my fence, hearing them scrambling trying to dig through.

Yeah. I hate dogs. Vile, dirty, horrible man-made unnatural beasts.

Weirdo. Some humans are a lot more disgusting.

When their dog had it’s jaws around my ankle drawing blood it’s owner said ‘she would never hurt anyone, she’s a real softie’ or some such. 🤷‍♀️

Well, many dogs would save a child over another dog, so maybe they’re better than us after all!
