It’s agony! Like being sliced with razors every time I swallow. Genuinely scared whenever I cough because it’s so painful. Have taken painkillers. What else can I do to make it feel better?

Gargle with warm salty water, and hot toddies

TerrysGotPeeves · 12/10/2022 16:04

Difflam spray is very good. Or the traditional honey, lemon and hot water. Or gargling with saline

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2022 16:08

Sounds like I need to send someone out for Difflam.

Totally different perspective :
Once had an awfully sore throat , just like you described.
Happened just before a long planned visit home ( abroad ) I couldn't then make as I felt just like OP.
A nurse relative asked if something happened that upset me with relatives I was visting that I hadn't " voiced " .
It had.
I then voiced issue to relatives and bingo, sore throat instantly vanished.
Was astonished at how our bodies can react.

Not saying it's not an infection but worth considering.
Hope you get better soon !

Gargle with diluted tcp. Brutal but effective.

Dogtooth · 12/10/2022 16:19

DH had issues with tonsillitis for ages. Salt water gargle helps prevent infection. Difflam spray for pain.

Sage tea also helps - boiling water on some sage.

LynneBenfield · 12/10/2022 16:19

Difflam spray

Chloraseptic throat spray

Tisforptarmigan · 12/10/2022 16:21

This worked for me. Spray it directly only your throat

Gargle with lukewarm salt water on a regular basis.

focuspocus · 12/10/2022 16:23

Disprin soluble works for me when I have sore throats from acid reflux. I guess it costs the throat as you drink it. Strepsils etc only work for a very short time for me.

ThreeblackCats · 12/10/2022 16:24

Hot tody
boiling water, whisky, lemon, sugar or honey if needed.

about 5/6 weeks ago, I had a nasty head cold with sore throat .

I made up lemsip in my cappuccino glass, added a measuring of whisky and just rested all day.

badgermushrooms · 12/10/2022 16:25

Pineapple juice sometimes works for me.

Snaketime · 12/10/2022 16:25

Bacon and fried bread, salt and vinegar crisps

curvymumma79 · 12/10/2022 16:26

Gargle with TCP.

ninetynineAu · 12/10/2022 16:32

Hot honey and lemon drink and mix in a couple of soluble aspirin tabs

Newuser82 · 12/10/2022 16:32

Difflam spray! It's the best thing for a sore throat!

WaffleIron · 12/10/2022 16:34

Probably covid.

I have the same thing right now - swallowing is agony. been positive since last week.

nomistake · 12/10/2022 16:42

Whiskey, lemon, honey and some ginger cordial and hot water.

bridgetreilly · 12/10/2022 16:48

No whiskey in the house but I have unearthed a bottle of ginger wine so added a dollop to my hot honey and lemon. Throat still awful but the drink is yummy.

I do need to do a Covid test, but I am nervous because I had really nasty Covid earlier in the year. I want this just to be a cold!
