Shall I just go to A&E…

I have been having upper right abdomen pain since Saturday (currently a full ache) temp around 40.4 comes down to 39.2 with some tablets, I feel sick and woozy had horrific bowel movement

pain come and goes in waves when it’s bad I can’t move, hurts to breathe, can’t stomach food cause immense pain…been taking tramadol and it’s not touching it!

pain got really really bad yesterday each wave lasted around 2 hours, dh phoned 111…after 9 hours they still hadn’t called back, phoned again at 6…was phoned back at 10pm asking me to go to urgent care for an appointment at 10.30pm which was impossible as I live an hour away…they then told me they had no other appointments and was told to call my Gp or go to a&e if it got worse

doped up on tramadol again and got about 4 hours sleep

attempted to contact my Gp 33 times…finally spoke to a receptionist and all she would offer me was an appointment in 7-10 days

phoned 111 to be told to contact my Gp as they were open

literally it’s my last resort do I just turn up? Pain has been ramping up again for the last 15 mins I can’t keep shoving tramadol down my throat but I don’t want to be sat in a&e in agony while nothing happens and I’m left in a chair like last time

Yes go.

Severe pain without a known cause is an emergency. Pack a bag with stuff you might need and get yourself there.

Vapeyvapevape · 10/10/2022 17:23

Yes I would go.

gogohmm · 10/10/2022 17:23

Call 111 for an urgent care appointment, they should be no further away than a&e

Allmarbleslost · 10/10/2022 17:24

Yes go.

Igo · 10/10/2022 17:24

111 told me at 2pm to call my Gp my Gp wouldn’t see me

Op only you can say if you feel ill enough for A&E. Nobody here can assess that.
when you arrive, they’ll triage you. If the nurses aren’t concerned that you’re life threateningly unwell, you likely will wait a long time, however at least you’ll be getting medical treatment so I’d just take things to make you comfortable and wait it out.
good luck whatever you decide, I hope you’ll feel better soon.

Sounds like a gall bladder infection. I've had this twice and it's bloody hideous. The fact it's been going on since Saturday and your GP didn't see it as urgent is absolutely disgraceful. You need AB's!

gerbo · 10/10/2022 17:24

Yes go, could be appendix. My symptoms were a slow build up but similar in the end, it was a perforated appendix so I'm glad I went to sit in a&e. Do go.

ofwarren · 10/10/2022 17:25

Yes go, sounds like gallbladder issues

Phoenixesrise · 10/10/2022 17:25

Yes go to emergency but be prepared to wait so carry fluids , and some pain killers and snacks . Nhs under lot of pressure which basically means more wait times. They might send you back to Gp but at least you will be seen by them.

Hope you feel better soon.

HangOnToYourself · 10/10/2022 17:25

111 said go to a&e if pain gets worse which it has so definitely go! Where did you get the tramadol? Just thinking it's worth being cautious about what you are taking until you have seen a doctor

ghostyslovesheets · 10/10/2022 17:26

I'd go - you've tried other avenues - although I would have gone to the apt last night to be fair.

Go get seen - it sounds awful

Darbs76 · 10/10/2022 17:26

Yes. Gallstones. Pancreas - I ignored pain like this a few times and it was gallstones. By the time it was sorted my pancreas was permanently damaged, causing me constant pain for 10yrs and a major surgery. I regret every day not going to A&E earlier

Sorry but attempting to diagnose someone on the internet with very limited information is extremely irresponsible. You have no idea what she has. This is why threads like this should be banned.

Ihatethenewlook · 10/10/2022 17:27

Go in op. I went in once and my symptoms weren’t half as bad as yours sound. I had a ruptured ovarian cyst, needed emergency surgery and was in hospital on a drain for a week

TheWolves · 10/10/2022 17:28

I think you need to go. Don't bother messing around with 111/GP.

Just make sure to take everything you might need to be waiting in A&E without sleep until tomorrow morning.

She hasn’t attempted to diagnose it at all. It sounds like it could be all sorts of things. She’s just pointing out that it can be potentially serious and she needs to be seen

PinkButtercups · 10/10/2022 17:29

@Peashoots I said sounds like! Not that it is. Be quiet.

PinkButtercups · 10/10/2022 17:29

@Ihatethenewlook thank you. Jeez, some people 🙄

nickyschof · 10/10/2022 17:31

I work for 111, and upper abdominal pain could, and I really do mean could, be a sign of heart issues. Please go to A&E.

Badgirlriri · 10/10/2022 17:33

i agree these threads should be banned.

ShirleyPhallus · 10/10/2022 17:35

Yep I’d go. A&E waiting times aren’t that bad for those genuinely in need - I went a few weeks ago and was a medium urgent person and seen then admitted in about 3 hours which included bloods, fluids, painkillers, diagnostic testing etc etc

Igo · 10/10/2022 17:40

My husband is taking me in now

He took one look at me and said no more fucking about with 111 or the Gp

I must look like shit

You could call the GP and tell them 111 have asked you to see them for an appointment.

Otherwise call your local urgent care centre for an appointment.

She has. “Sounds like a gallbladder infection, you need antibiotics”. Literally told her she needs antibiotics. Yes of course it “could be” a gallbladder infection, could equally be a thousand other things. The op doesn’t need Dr Mumsnet telling her what treatment she needs.
