Shall I just go to A&E…

I have been having upper right abdomen pain since Saturday (currently a full ache) temp around 40.4 comes down to 39.2 with some tablets, I feel sick and woozy had horrific bowel movement

pain come and goes in waves when it’s bad I can’t move, hurts to breathe, can’t stomach food cause immense pain…been taking tramadol and it’s not touching it!

pain got really really bad yesterday each wave lasted around 2 hours, dh phoned 111…after 9 hours they still hadn’t called back, phoned again at 6…was phoned back at 10pm asking me to go to urgent care for an appointment at 10.30pm which was impossible as I live an hour away…they then told me they had no other appointments and was told to call my Gp or go to a&e if it got worse

doped up on tramadol again and got about 4 hours sleep

attempted to contact my Gp 33 times…finally spoke to a receptionist and all she would offer me was an appointment in 7-10 days

phoned 111 to be told to contact my Gp as they were open

literally it’s my last resort do I just turn up? Pain has been ramping up again for the last 15 mins I can’t keep shoving tramadol down my throat but I don’t want to be sat in a&e in agony while nothing happens and I’m left in a chair like last time

I'd go - you've tried other avenues - although I would have gone to the apt last night to be fair.

Go get seen - it sounds awful

How could she have taken the appointment the night before? She said they called at 10pm, offered her a 10.30pm appointment but she lived 1 hour a way.

It wasn't physically possible for her to make it.

OP I hope you're being seen at A&E

antelopevalley · 10/10/2022 22:16

Your GP is disgraceful. Once this is over I would make a complaint.
Go to A and E. You need to get this checked out.

Seabreeze18 · 10/10/2022 22:19

Please update us when u can! Good luck!

Sunshinebug · 10/10/2022 22:20

Not really sure what you’re waiting for if it’s so bad? That said, I’ve been there, waited until my appendix burst. Not a good move and now only have 2/3 of my intestines left.

Tornado70 · 10/10/2022 22:20

Hope you’re ok and you’re being well looked after.

ICanHideButICantRun · 10/10/2022 22:21

I hope everything's OK, OP, and that you're seen quickly.

Jaystar7 · 10/10/2022 22:25

I have experienced similar and was diagnosed with gall stones. Sometimes a stone can get stuck in the bile duct (mine had). Hope you get some relief. X

Nearlyshitmypantsthere · 10/10/2022 22:25

@Igo 💐 Hope you're getting sorted. Please let us know how you got on.

PinkButtercups · 10/10/2022 22:32

@LuckyLil yes she would need ab if it were a gallbladder infection. What I was saying was referring to my experience of gallbladder infections. Not sure why you brought this up now. Happened hours ago. Drama Llama.

AmadeusBreathingWater · 10/10/2022 22:34

why do you have tramadol? Is it for a previous similar pain?

MaryDerry · 10/10/2022 22:34

Virtual handhold. Hope you doing OK.

MrJi · 10/10/2022 22:36

Very glad you have decided to go in OP. Any kind of severe pain needs proper investigation. I hope you get seen quickly .

allboysherebutme · 10/10/2022 22:44

Of course you should go, I'd have gone once it didn't go by the following day. X

PlainJaneSuperBrain99 · 10/10/2022 22:51

Update us when you can. I hope you aren't waiting too long.

Hope you're ok OP. Your post made me think of this awful story.

weatherwhirl · 10/10/2022 23:02

Hope you are getting the care you need at A&E, OP.

Yes. Gallstones. Pancreas - I ignored pain like this a few times and it was gallstones. By the time it was sorted my pancreas was permanently damaged, causing me constant pain for 10yrs and a major surgery. I regret every day not going to A&E earlier

I was going to say something along these lines, too.

I suffer from chronic acute pancreatitis (mines due to hormones and I've had pancreatic cancer & major surgery, so not gallstone related) and untreated gallbladder issues can in turn trigger pancreatitis.

It's the worst pain in the world so please get checked before it could possibly turn into this. It could equally be absolutely nothing related to any of the above but I'd rather throw my two pence in and say get checked before it goes further down the line ❤️

bakebeans · 10/10/2022 23:23

Sounds like pancreatitis/gallbladder. You need to have it checked out

CosyDarkNights · 10/10/2022 23:29

I honestly don't get this fannying around with 111 and waiting for a GPs call back. I'd only go to the GPS with something that I could wait 6 weeks for an appointment for. If I was in agony and I didn't know what was causing it I'd go to a+e, I wouldn't wait for someone with a script they were reading from to return my call in 9 hours time, Id rather exercise my own judgement. I haven't attended a+e for myself since I was a teen so I'm not a regular customer, I just don't understand the posts on here where it's obvious the person needs to go to hospital yet they are wasting time on the phone.

Hope you have been seen and have some answered as to what is causing your pain.

Threelittlelambs · 10/10/2022 23:35

I also think it may well be gall stones I also rang doctors several times with no call back and ended up in a heap at A&E absolutely awful pain!

I hope you are seen quickly.

Well that was a very coherent post for someone in such pain. I liked the punctuation, it really added to the urgency…

People cope with pain differently Confused shocker
I've been in 10/10 pain score and was still able to type coherently
Same as I can work while taking oramorph, some people are knocked out on it
