To ask about oodies?

Both kids want an oodie for Christmas but honestly I'm not sure I can justify the cost- are they really worth it? Can anyone recommend a cheaper brand?

OP posts:

We've got amazon ones (just done order history search and mine was Eheyciga blanket hoodie, DHs was a Nightbex) and they're perfectly adequate. They were about £25 each earlier this year. Can't imagine the £74 oodie equivalent is 3x better and also that price defeats the cost savings of not putting the heating on in our offices! Kids have got Next ones which don't have the same sheepskin style lining but they have said they're warm enough. They prefer their fleecy onsies though.

Savingpeoplehuntingthings · 10/10/2022 17:18

We have kudd.lys and love them, so thick and warm. They're on offer atm, 4 for £109 so not much more expensive than the lesser quality fakes. I got ds 12 an adult one.

ihopeyourehappynow · 10/10/2022 17:21

I've just ordered the Costco one - a lot lighter than I thought meaning it's not too cumbersome to do stuff in but still super warm - too warm in fact for the weather right now.

I was 100% happy until I saw that I'd missed our on a leopard print pattern like the screenshot above Sad now I feel v dull in comparison in my grey!

Spanglybangles · 10/10/2022 17:26

I have The Comfy (in leopard print, sorry @ihopeyourehappynow ) and it’s brilliant. They are only £30 at Costco and ridiculously warm. I also can’t wear mine yet without feeling uncomfortably hot, and I live in Scotland!! Will come into its own over winter though. If you are set on Oodies, they were buy one get one free recently as I received emails about the offer. No idea if it’s still on though.

feebal · 10/10/2022 17:29

In our house we have the cheaper ones. A couple from Amazon (sienna and sherpa) and some from Primark. All really warm and wash well. I can't see how Oodie justify their price, you are just paying for the brand.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 10/10/2022 17:31

I think they're worth it

beachcitygirl · 10/10/2022 17:32

Agree with pp ghastly & wondeful all at once. Heating hasn't been on yet. We all
Have them. So so comfy.
I put them in the same category as
a) Ugg's
b) flip flops
C) Skechers
d) magic trousers

You almost wish you had never worn them as everything else is now so Uncomfy.

beachcitygirl · 10/10/2022 17:32

Ps we have the primark ones and they wash up a treat

MargaretThursday · 10/10/2022 17:35

I got cheap ones off ebay. They've been worn and worn by me and ds for three years now and show no signs of letting the cold in.
I think the ones I got were similar to These

Luckymummytoone · 10/10/2022 17:40

I got a primark one and took it back as was still cold in it! Invested in an oodie and it’s a amazing!! Worth paying the extra and there’s a sale on at the moment!

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/10/2022 15:23

Just bought one for my DS
They are reduced on the site at the moment and using code ENERGYSAVERS( generic)
I paid £49

THANK YOU @uncomfortablydumb53 my grandma wanted one and that's just saved me £15 (+ the £20 was already taken off) so I got her one for £49 instead of £84. Many glasses of wine for youWine

crackersforcrackers · 10/10/2022 18:09

And to answer the OPs question I bought the M&S fake oodie last Christmas and its warm but no different to wearing a normal hoodie round the house.

reallyneedmoresleep · 10/10/2022 18:10

Oodies are fantastic if they actually arrive.
The quality and cosiness and warmth is wonderful.
However, last October I ordered 6 for Christmas presents. They didn't arrive and after I chased and chased and eventually left a shit review on Trustpilot I was told the order wouldn't be ready on time and offered a refund. Proceed with caution!

mycatisannoying · 10/10/2022 18:11

OP, I say this hand on heart.

My Oodie is the best thing I have ever bought. I couldn't be without it.

savehannah · 10/10/2022 18:12

We have Primark ones and ones bought from ebay. Honestly they are so soft, thick and warm I can't imagine how a branded one could be better.

mycatisannoying · 10/10/2022 18:13

Oh, and I've had the cheaper versions - they are absolutely not as good.

Nat6999 · 10/10/2022 18:14

I've got a zip up dupe from Amazon, it's warm enough for me & I'm always cold.

lanbro · 10/10/2022 18:14

I had a non branded one last year but upgraded us all to Oodies this year, there is no comparison I'm afraid...maybe check Vinted for used ones? But they are worth the price imo

savehannah · 10/10/2022 18:14

I sit in my car at night in winter while DS does sport for an hour and a half in my non-branded one and I'm toasty with the engine and hot air off.

Kuddly are superior in this regard (even though I'm a die-hard Oodie fan!) - they arrive super quick.

uncomfortablydumb53 · 10/10/2022 18:21

@crackersforcrackers
Cheers to youWine

Shylo · 10/10/2022 18:22

I have a lush forest version from Amazon - it’s thick, plenty warm enough and not overwhelmingly huge (I’m 5ft 3)

Oysterbabe · 10/10/2022 18:22

We got knock off ones from Dunelm and the kids like them.

BoreOfWhabylon · 10/10/2022 18:26

I got a genuine Oodie and am wearing it for the very first time today. It is fantastic! I'm toasty warm and with no heating on.

Not being a small woman, I do look like Jabba The Hutt's big sister though Grin

DashboardConfessional · 10/10/2022 18:28

I've ordered a Kuddly for £49. In the end I didn't want to buy a cheap one and still hanker after a fluffier one so just took the plunge.
