Would you object to a house guest doing this?

I don’t think I am overreacting but who knows?

backstory - came down to houseguest rinsing our sinuses over a bowl. In my kitchen! They propose to do it over the kitchen sink, draining the used water into the sink. I want them to do this in the bathroom as it is unhygienic.

IABU - they should continue to use the kitchen
iANBU - this is unhygienic and should be done in the bathroom

I honestly couldn't get worked up over this

Nachobutt · 08/10/2022 15:46

omg dirty bugger - I agree. Not in a food prep area. Gross.

SuperCamp · 08/10/2022 15:47

Well it sounds a revolting process so better done in the privacy of the bathroom. Hygiene wise, no different: hot soapy wash or some disinfectant in both locations.

phishy · 08/10/2022 15:48

Gross. Never let them stay again. Have they argued with you?

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 08/10/2022 15:49

It’s nasty but so long as they properly cleaned out the sink (either sink!) when they’re done I would be ok with it.

Aquamarine1029 · 08/10/2022 15:50

That's disgusting. Who is this minger?

TheFairyCaravan · 08/10/2022 15:50

That's vile.

JaninaDuszejko · 08/10/2022 15:50

Why would you want to do this in a public area in someone else's house?

Mabelface · 08/10/2022 15:50

Minging, and I don't have high standards!

Carlycat · 08/10/2022 15:54

Absolutely disgusting. It should be done in private over the bathroom sink Confused

mamakoukla · 08/10/2022 17:02

Thank you for sharing opinions and thoughts. I sometimes wonder whether I am overreacting to a situation or misreading and wanted a sounding board to see what other people thought. This helps 💐

The hygiene aspect wouldn’t bother me but it’s one of those ‘personal care’ jobs one does in the privacy of the bathroom (ideally one in their own house but if needs really did ‘must’ then, as above). Pretty revolting to do it where others may appear.

I'm not really sure what "rinsing out your sinuses" involves but if it requires steam then kitchen would be most obvious place since that is where the kettle is

Knackeredandstressed · 08/10/2022 17:23

Any body functions need to be dealt with in the bathroom, not the kitchen! This includes cutting toenails, steaming sinuses etc.

No steam involved although if mixing your own solution you do need cooled boiled water.

The bathroom is the place for this, not the kitchen sink in a house where you are a guest.

StirredNotShaken00 · 08/10/2022 17:37

Eww! It's your MIL isn't it?!

jtaeapa · 08/10/2022 17:42

filthy

TescoCustomerService · 08/10/2022 18:03

I couldn't care less where they do it if it helps them feel better, my partner usually does his in the bathroom or kitchen

ZooMount · 08/10/2022 18:21

Never heard of rinsing your sinuses. How does one do this and is it a job we should all be doing?!

Awoooga · 08/10/2022 18:22

I object to house guests full stop 😂

Doidontimmm · 08/10/2022 18:24

What on earth is rinsing sinuses?

Mammajay · 08/10/2022 18:24

I don't normally question guests but on this I would have to show how unacceptable I found this. Some personal routines are done in privacy imo

Soubriquet · 08/10/2022 18:26

It’s a sink….nothing to get worked up about.

Now if they did it on your carpet, I would understand
