Following on from a thread yesterday, I guessed Liz was 56. I was shocked to hear she's a decade younger. I guess I am being unreasonable. It was probably the photo of her having a meeting wearing comfy trainers that did it. How old would you have guessed she was?

FFS stop judging her looks and age.

Judge her on her (dire) decision making as our PM

bellinisurge · 08/10/2022 08:22

I despise Liz Truss. I have reported this thread as misogynistic and ageist.

Ageism and misogyny.
What does her age or appearance have to do with anything?
It's what she stands for that is rank.
Don't stoop so low as to round up other women to 'appraise' her appearance.
This is patriarchy.

Well said.

SofiaSoFar · 08/10/2022 08:24

I actually think she could pass as Holly Willoughbys older sister grandmother if she had one she has the same kind of look

Agree.

Wow. 😂

ILeclercreturn · 08/10/2022 08:26

Unless the country is a dictatorship the Prime Minister does not 'run' the country but marshals the cabinet and by extension, civil servants who actually do the hard lifting of 'running' the show. PM is the country's representative at some (maninly superficial) meetings with other countries leaders where the bulk of the real details have been thrashed out by ministers. As to liz's appearance, she has had 'work done' to make her look more like Thatcher (Mrs!) from voice coaching to ?????. Age is not important but understanding the needs of the country and motivating the cabinet and Civil Service are vital. Truss (like Johnson) fails dismally as she doesn't have the knowledge or intelligence, for which age is not important.

nannybeach · 08/10/2022 08:26

Agree,it is a horrible thread, disagree, male MPs aren't treated the same. How many times did people comment on Bojos hair/weight.

Khakijane · 08/10/2022 08:27

If she ever chose to have enhancements such as subtle Botox, filler etc and dental work I think she would actually look extremely attractive

ffs what a ridiculous thing to say! The misogyny, no wonder women are insecure and having more and more “treatments” to maintain an unrealistic appearance of being younger

this whole thread is in bad taste and I’d like to see the OP and the others gladly piling in to comment on her looks be brave enough to post a pic of themselves for us to judge

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 08/10/2022 08:27

She looks fine.

I can't believe she's the Prime Minister.

FanniesFlaps · 08/10/2022 07:25

Do we do this to male Prime Ministers?

FFS!

Um how about yes!

Boris Johnson with his Wurzel Gummidge straw mop and ill-fitting suits.

what's sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander as they say.

CuriousCatfish · 08/10/2022 08:27

I thought she was older.

Agree, this post should be removed

It's what an evil scheming mind does to the body that rots you from within until you are left just a hollow empty soul. She looks like an albino version of the Wicked Witch of the West. Hopefully, Dorothy will sort her out.

LemonTT · 08/10/2022 08:30

Generations, if not millennia, of women being judged and valued on their looks is why it is different from a bit of banter about Boris.

Incidentally Boris is clearly deliberately using his messy looks to distract from his messy politics and ethics.

PerfectlyPreservedQuagaarWarrior · 08/10/2022 08:32

Johnson is a different kettle of fish even to most male PMs in respect of his appearance, and there's a reason we never did this to Cameron, Brown, Blair etc. It's because he deliberately tailored his personal appearance to try and convey a specific image. The scruffy look was a choice. He was trying to communicate something with it. That in itself made it more worthy of comment. Truss doesn't do that. Most PMs don't.

I do agree comments about Boris being fat crossed the line though. I don't think anyone other than a posh white man could pull that off and still be seen as leadership material now, but there were definitely some comments that went beyond that.

Anniegetyourgun · 08/10/2022 08:34

There was a thread one time I remember about Rishi Sunak's height. Some posters saying they were disappointed when they found out how tall he wasn't because they had previously fancied him. That's not nice either - or relevant to a politician's ability.

One type of thread I really would like to see disappear is when the subject of attractiveness of certain male MPs comes up, because in most cases it makes me feel ill. I mean, JRM, "filthy" in bed? Not in any good way, I'm quite sure Envy

AlecTrevelyan006 · 08/10/2022 08:34

I’m old enough to remember Michael Foot being widely criticised for his appearance

Bearsporridge · 08/10/2022 08:35

HeadNorth · 08/10/2022 08:16

Bollocks she does. She looks like a normal mid 40s woman who hasn't wasrted time and money on 'tweakments' - and is, by any margin incredibly successful. She is Prime Minister!

I loathe her politics and all she stands for, but I also loathe dragging successful women for how they look.

Exactly.

shameful thread

But Truss does do exactly that, she models herself on Thatcher, which means she is altering her natural appearance via cloths and makeup, to that of a much older woman, which is why she is attracting these comments.

CovertImage · 08/10/2022 08:39

This sort of shit is happening more and more on Mumsnet and I don't like it

TortugaRumCakeQueen · 08/10/2022 08:40

I'm almost 53, and I look younger than her.

LizTrussIsACylon · 08/10/2022 08:41

Do people really believe she hasn't had Botox? Her face doesn't move!

Plus there's the small matter of several thousand pounds being spent on beauty treatments and funded by the tax payer when she was Foreign Secretary...

She makes presentation choices that say something about what she stands for and who she wants to appeal to. Entirely fair game for discussion. Make politicians don't get so much discussion because they all wear suits. Liz Truss could choose to wear plain suits but she doesn't.

In my view, she deliberately styles herself a bit older because she's trying to appeal to older Tory voters. She likes to echo Thatcher with pussy bows etc. She wears really heavy make up that ages her skin and has had some weird eyebrow treatment that makes her look a bit deranged.

I detest her for her politics not her face, though!

borntobequiet · 08/10/2022 08:45

She looks fine, and exactly her age.
Everything else about her is dreadful.

Zonder · 08/10/2022 08:46

batshitballs · 08/10/2022 07:27

Mind you, being a PM is aging

Nobody exits no 10 looking fresh

This. However old she looked going in, she will look over 60 by the time she leaves. And that will hopefully be very soon.
