To have banged on her car?

Lauren1983 · 07/10/2022 20:08

There is a car that I see daily on the school run that parks illegally and selfishly (on double yellows, on a corner, blocking a dropped kerb and half on the pavement. I have considered leaving a note or speaking to the woman who does it but decided they are so selfish and entitled it would make no difference.

Today they had parked the same so I was a bit pissed off with them but just went to get my child from school. On our way home this car came down the road we were waiting to cross and I noticed the woman was holding her mobile phone in one hand and driving with the other.

I saw red and started shouting at her to put down her phone. She just looked straight ahead so I went around the back of her car and banged on the boot twice. I then came around and again shouted at her to put the phone down. She again ignored me and drove off.

Wibu to bang her car? I didn't want to cause any damage (I'm pretty certain I didn't) but I did want to shock her. She had her kids in the car so now thinking I might have gone too far. To be clear she wasn't talking on the phone or texting but just kind of scrolling.

You would be better taking pictures or videos and sending them to the school and the police.

girlfriend44 · 07/10/2022 22:08

Well done you
Nothing wrong with calling people out on their bad behaviour.
How selfish texting and scrolling in the car, put the bloody thing down and concentrate.

OneFrenchEgg · 07/10/2022 22:09

I think banging while she was already distracted could have caused her to lose control and you say it's a busy area.
I've sent film to parking enforcement - we had a lot of back and forth and pleasant emails weirdly! They sent officers out randomly for about a month and ticketed everyone parked on yellow lines.
Not, annoyingly, the bloke with a blue badge who just pulled up, waited for kid, and drove off again. I'm assuming it wasn't the kids as we have one for dc and so I use the car park accessible spaces.

Figgygal · 07/10/2022 22:11

If you know her number plate and description I'd dob her in to school for them to have a word

batshitballs · 07/10/2022 22:16

It's not your job to police other drivers

XYZ32 · 07/10/2022 22:16

I used to hate this specially having a double pram so in the end, the man in the "posh" BMW who parked on the corner on the double yellows got it, I didn't walk into the road and I forced my pram down the side of the path an scratched ALL his car as he parked right on the bloody path, he soon jumped out and screamed wtf was I doing and would I like it done to my car, I simply said for 1 im not that much of a lazy idiot to have to park on the corner on double yellows on a path outside school when you could go abit further down the road an park safely and I'm simply not walking in the road any longer putting my kids at risk as cars fly round the bend. Safe to say no one has ever parked their since !!!
It's a path not a parking space but then to be on the phone. Shocking

catandcoffee · 07/10/2022 22:28

Do not apologise to her OP.
She's a bloody danger to other road users.

TokenGinger · 07/10/2022 22:32

I have read too many horror stories recently of road rage, or similar, leading to one party getting killed. Of course it's absolutely in the minority but I'd just never take that risk to act so aggressively to an unknown party when the result could be devastating.

allboysherebutme · 07/10/2022 22:43

Get her number plate and report her to the police. X

mrs55 · 07/10/2022 22:53

Bloody hell your no better screaming and shouting in front of your child contact the police or school next time if you had done that to my car I’d of gotten out and flattened you be mindful of that you don’t know who’s in the car I hate when drivers aggravate other drivers it’s mayhem waiting to happen if you do it to the wrong person.

akabluebell · 07/10/2022 22:58

What really worries these awful people who think it's ok to use a phone whilst driving is to photograph them and make sure they see you do it.

Banging on their car is perfectly fine and if none of us challenge these people nothing will change, after all the police are incapable of acting aren't they . . ..

TockClicking · 07/10/2022 23:01

A parent and toddler were run over outside my child's school this week by one of 'those' parents. Absolutely horrendous. They will be ok but it's been awful. Parent of who did it was an accident waiting to happen.
When will these people learn that they are driving something that can kill. Yanbu to be pissed off. Maybe she will think twice. She probably won't though.

My children have autism and would have been very confused and frightened by a stranger shouting and bashing on our car. My 12 year old (eldest) especially would be quite affected by something like that so IMO you went too far.

In which case you must be careful to never use your mob phone whilst driving, then there won't be an issue.

HappyBinosaur · 07/10/2022 23:10

Did she definitely not have a blue badge as you can park on a double yellow line and parking near school with a disability can be a nightmare?

HappyBinosaur · 07/10/2022 23:12

Of course that doesn’t excuse the mobile phone!

SandyY2K · 07/10/2022 23:15

You had no right to touch her car. You're not law enforcement to go banging on her car because she was on her phone.

No blue badge. I double checked and the school are pretty good at allowing parents and children with disabilities to park in the school carpark or drop off there.

It's frustrating re the parking as there are lots of spaces around the area to park which don't involve parking on double yellows. I would say 90 percent of the road area around the school isn't double yellow lined so it's actual hard to park on them but the same people continually do. In many cases they are saving themselves 20 seconds of walk time.

I think we all have a responsibility to try to get idiots using a phone while driving to stop asap.

and if that means banging on their car and possibly ly scaring their kids, then that’s what it takes.

better a scared kid than a dead kid.

it’s illegal because it is bloody dangerous and she had no reason to use her phone when driving

EfficientDynamics · 07/10/2022 23:34

I'd report the car and it's reg to the council and hopefully they'll ticket it for the parking

5zeds · 07/10/2022 23:42

Honestly I think it sounds like you lost your temper. I’d be embarrassed not proud of that. Beating on someone’s car and shouting at them is far more likely to cause an accident than her phone and parking misdemeanours. I really hope you didn’t frighten her children.

VanillaImpulse · 07/10/2022 20:12

I would contact the school and see if they can put something in the newsletter about bad parking (even better if they could add a photo of it shaming her)

How is someone driving using a mobile phone a school issue? If you think the children are at risk report her to Social Services.

LondonQueen · 08/10/2022 00:49

Banging on her car is a little too far when she has a child in the car.

It certainly made Nazi Germany work smoothly. Anyone else we're going to report?

Revolvingwhore · 07/10/2022 20:22

You're lucky not to get dropped to be honest.

Is that what you do @Revolvingwhore? Do you go round dropping people who point out your cuntish and dangerous behaviour?

I don't blame you OP, unfortunately that's like that tend to be very thick skinned.

This time they drove off but next time hitting someone’s car is likely going to get you a hit!
