Mysterious parcel delivery

purpleclaire · 07/10/2022 17:20

Just got back from work and found a large parcel has been delivered from M&S that we haven't ordered. It is addressed to my husband, with his nickname and surname. My teenage son was home all day and happened to pop outside and saw the courier leave it on our doorstep - he thinks it was delivered by DPD. My husband is away for a few days, so I rang him to tell him that a large parcel had arrived from M&S. He said that he hadn't ordered anything from M&S and asked me to open it. There was no paperwork or delivery note inside, but there were 2 brand new M&S suits, on hangers, with labels and wrapped in plastic. They are far too big for my husband - 38" long trousers x2 (£99) each and matching jackets 46" chest X2 (£55) each.
Any ideas?

His mum?

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 07/10/2022 17:23

Has he ordered from them before?

HappyHamsters · 07/10/2022 17:24

Is there a billing address on the invoice

HashtagShitShop · 07/10/2022 17:25

How does it say it was paid for? If card do the last few digits they usually show show any card related to you or your husband?

LuckyLil · 07/10/2022 17:25

It's his nickname that's the odd bit. Either way someone doesn't know his size lol

user26189065 · 07/10/2022 17:25

There isn't any invoice now in M&S orders, it's all done through the app or website, maybe there is a clue on the address label

There's no invoice.

FlissyPaps · 07/10/2022 17:28

How strange!

Is his known by his nickname to a lot of people?

My first thought would be from a family member or work colleague.. I’d wait to see his reaction when he gets back.

BonjourCrisette · 07/10/2022 17:29

Could it be some kind of joke?

HappyHamsters · 07/10/2022 17:29

I get phone notifications and an invoice with a returns label when i get a marks delivery

QuitWhileAhead · 07/10/2022 17:30

Does he have an account? Has he checked it? Have you called M&S ?

namechange3394 · 07/10/2022 17:30

Is there anyone in the family of a size they'd fit - FIL or a BIL? Has anyone sent your DH a gift from M&S previously? They could have accidentally clicked the wrong address in their account?

Have you had one recently?

I wish we still had invoices, taking it back and showing the return barcode on my account is a PITA, especially with sketchy WiFi.

Just looked at the postage label again definitely DPD and ordered on Next Day Service. No-one in the family that big - he's a 30" waist. He also never wears suits... just weddings and funerals! When he gets back on Sunday he'll have to check his bank account or credit cards.

I would assume a scam where they would try to intercept delivery. Happened to us and with H and M.

LaurieFairyCake · 07/10/2022 17:52

I'm also going with a scam where someone in your street thinks your out and didn't click the teenager would be in

And meant to intercept it

I don't understand why you wouldn't contact Marks and Spencer's. If it's a scam then waiting seems a bit daft. Customer service is open until 8

HangOnToYourself · 07/10/2022 18:21

Cant he check online banking or call the bank now? Even if overseas he can call them, I wouldnt wait several days if I thought my bank details had been.stolen

DoubleHelix79 · 07/10/2022 18:25

I've vaused a mystery delivery once by ordering some photo prints but not realising the delivery address had defaulted back to that of some friends of ours, who we had send a few prints from a 'big' birthday event.

Could something similar have happened here? Somebody who sent your DH a birthday present previously and didn't realise they hadn't changed the delivery address?

purpleclaire · 07/10/2022 18:36

He can't check online banking, as he's sailing - he's in a race, and won't be on land till Sunday. I'll try M&S Customer Service now.

This happened to me with another ship. I presume it is some sort of scam. They had also charged my bank account, which I did get back. Check your account!

Lesserspotteddogfish · 07/10/2022 18:48

Can he use telephone banking?

user26189065 · 07/10/2022 18:50

If he is out at sea there is probably no phone signal

Lesserspotteddogfish · 07/10/2022 18:51

But she has phoned him about this.

user26189065 · 07/10/2022 18:56

Oh yes, I see now, in the OP, he should ring then
