Neighbours - what can I do?

I’m in an end terrace house in a cul de sac. There are small car parks either side of my terrace, the other houses in the road either park on the street or on their driveways.

My front door opens directly into the car park nearest to my house.
I’m H1 (house 1). Me and my partner share a car but he mostly uses it as he works full time and I stay home.

H2 (next to me) have 1 car + guests everyday

H3 (adjacent to me) have 2 cars and a campervan

H4 (next to h3) have 1 car + 1 abandoned car that has been there for 8ish years as it still has a tax disc on. Can’t be moved, registered as sorn

There is 5 spaces in the car park.
No outlined spaces to say who can park where.
AIBU to expect my partner to be able to come home from work and park in the car park where our front door is?

@TrashyPanda because their abandoned car has been taking up a parking space for the last 8 years

A parking space they might very well own or lease so that it is theirs to do with as they please.
It is a parking space you have no legal interest in.

But if it really bothers you
go online and search for their title to determine if they have any interest in the parking space - as stated in my pp, this could be a shared right of use, an exclusive right to use or a pro indiviso share of ownership.

and if their title does not refer to the parking space, then go online and search for a specific title to the parking space. This may still be contained in the parent title, or it may have been registered under a separate title.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 14:14

@TrashyPanda as I’ve explained, there are no parking spaces it is just land

@Sophieleigh26 if you can't park outside your door but can park outside neighbours door, why are you parking in the next street?

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 14:17

I’m not expecting them to park away from their house
There are 5 spaces
So there is space for everyone to park and one guest space
but because they have 2-3 cars, campervan, unused cars, nobody can park near their house

OP posts:
Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 14:18

@GloriousGlory there’s 3 spaces outside their door, which is taken up by all the other vehicles neighbours have plus guests, so when my partner gets home from work at 9pm there is no where to park

OP posts:
ChelseaRobertsofMalibu · 07/10/2022 14:29

Go on the Land Registry and choose the second option which includes the deeds and boundaries etc. If that states that the /owner/landlord of your property OWNS any of the spaces then you'll know that they're yours to use. You can even go one further and request it/them be added to your tenancy agreement

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 14:35

@ChelseaRobertsofMalibu there are no parking spaces

@ChelseaRobertsofMalibu there are no parking spaces

Just because there are no lines doesn't necessarily mean there are no allocated spaces

So why are you saying they can park in front of their house? They can't the spaces are taken, either by their other cars or by other people.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 15:06

@GloriousGlory so they are parking in front of their house if the space is taken up by their car.. I’m confused

Not as confused as I am! You're complaint is that they're parking outside yours when they could park outside their own door? But if those spaces are filled how can they park outside their own door?

Blueuggboots · 07/10/2022 15:15

I would be reporting the abandoned car for a start.....

NoSquirrels · 07/10/2022 15:15

Which neighbour do you have the issue with?

Neighbour with the 2 cars + campervan
or neighbour with the abandoned car or neighbour with the many guests?

TrashyPanda · 07/10/2022 15:26

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 14:14

@TrashyPanda as I’ve explained, there are no parking spaces it is just land

Your OP states
There is 5 spaces in the car park
and you then state
on the listing it says 2 parking spaces

it is irrelevant if these are marked or not.
the land will have an owner/owners.

all you know is that you have no right of ownership or usage.
it is perfectly possible your neighbour does have a right of ownership or usage.

you can investigate the ownership of the land. It is public information.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 15:55

abandoned car house - they could have put the car in a place where they could block it in with their other car. But instead they put it in the corner so they’d be blocking someone else’s car too. It’s just inconsiderate, no one thinks about anyone else anymore and that’s what I’m annoyed about.

why did the house with 2 cars not think about parking when they bought their camper van.

I don’t know who parks in the other spaces, probably guests or maybe they have more cars each.

OP posts:
girlmom21 · 07/10/2022 15:56

For the same reason you didn't think about parking. Because circumstances change.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 15:57

Another thing is they line the car park with their bins. If they kept them in their garden like I do then they’d probably be space for another car.

I’ve never had a tenancy agreement that stated parking, it was given in a seperate booklet

NoSquirrels · 07/10/2022 16:00

Well, you could have a friendly chat with both neighbours?

Hey Abandoned Car Neighbours, any chance you can move your SORN car to a spot where you can block it with your car, rather than in the corner?

Hey Campervan Neighbour, any chance you can park one of your two cars on a different road, so there’s one space in the car park for our car? I understand you probs won’t want to move the camper but it would be great if me & boyfriend could park outside our house more often.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 16:00

Abandoned car, campervan, H3s second car and H2 car (they never go out) are nearly always in the car park. Permanently. It’s just a dumping ground for unused vehicles. The abandoned car has 4 flat tyres and covered in cobwebs rust etc. this means there is only ever really space for 1 car which everyone has to fight over.

OP posts:
GladAllOver · 07/10/2022 16:12

If that abandoned car is on a public street, report it to the Council and they will take it away.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 16:15

I just don’t understand why people keep saying who owns the parking spaces? It is a public road, there are no spaces, it’s literally just an area of the road where people park.

Because you said you were told you had two designated spaces, if this is the case it would be privately owned. If it's a public road and it's not privately owned them it's first come, first served.

If it is a public road, the abandoned car couldn’t be SORN.

It’s not a public road.

Sophieleigh26 · 07/10/2022 16:28

@GloriousGlory I’ve said this whole thread that it’s first come first served, that doesn’t mean people shouldn’t have morals..
