Went to the supermarket with DSD earlier, both of us needed the toilet so we went to the ones available to customers. There are two cubicles and both were in use so we waited. As the previous occupant (early 40s maybe) came out I went in and there was wee all over the seat, I instinctively asked her if she could go back in and wipe it (wouldn’t have had the guts with time to think). DSD12 was mortified and said it was humiliating for the woman and that DSD wanted the ground to swallow her up. In hindsight, I’m glad she cleaned her own wee rather than me having to clean it or sit in it. DSD is never going out of the house with me again apparently.

OP I don't think you were unreasonable. The teenager's reaction is a side-issue - they get embarrassed by everything.

It just depends on how you did it - and I'm sure you were reasonable. I think it would be Ok to say 'Excuse me, was the loo like this when you went in? Then pretend you believe them when they say it was, tut loudly, and make a big thing of calling the management. If they were to blame they will have got a bit of a message, hopefully, and if not, well, they should perhaps have taken some action themselves for those coming behind them.

Went to a loo in a shop recently and it was beyond disgusting. Covered in poo and stinking. I just couldn't use it, but I did go and find a staff member and very politely let them know that it needed cleaning.

I don't understand PPs who are outraged that the OP called the woman out on this???? Even if it wasn't her direct fault, she was wrong to just walk away. When I've come out of a dirty loo I always speak to the next woman and say 'Sorry, it won't flush' or 'Sorry, it was like that when I went in' and DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!
