Beckham - blood money

Beckham has earned at least £70million ( although sources say nearer £145 million) to be ambassador for the World Cup Qatar
At least 6.5 thousand workers have already died bringing football to Qatar. The working conditions are appalling. Something that a few million towards decent temporary housing, water and food would solve.
They also criminalise homosexuality whilst Beckham has been a gay rights advocate.

Just how can he accept such huge fees on the back of such a regime? Or at least not use the fee to highlight how to make football a game without shame.

Whilst I agree with you regarding Beckham, my anger is towards FIFA.
I can't believe the blatant corruption that has occurred, they had no stadiums when they put in the bid or were awarded, the weather is the biggest problem though. Having to move the whole schedule of the PL for it. It's so so bad.

Regarding the deaths, (I will link some information asap) the issue was, Qatar opened up most of the jobs to migrant workers, with the promise of high wages, that was a lie. The migrants are living in squalor (the poor people they enticed, not the big wigs obviously)
But the deaths occurred because a lot of the workers aren't skilled, they are just cheap labour. I'm not sure on your figure, but amnesty have a breakdown on the numbers.

But yes, be mad at Beckham, but please also aim that towards FIFA too.

There seems to be to be a real reluctance in England to criticise David Beckham as if he is one of your darlings. Lots of excuses being made for him and whataboutisms. Qatar are homophobic and I did not see one woman at the opening game (except invited dignitaries). I will be watching no more of this shambles. He is a money grabbing egotist who likes nothing better than to be on centre stage flouncing around wearing his aviator sunglasses (look at me I'm cool just like Tom Cruise in Top Gun!) and meeting billionaires (he is trying to move in increasingly higher circles and may have already ditched some of his millionaire friends). Part of me feels sorry for him because he is weak, has no real sense of self and if all of this was taken from him I'm afraid he would feel like he was a non-person. Like he was not good enough. Another part of me is angry because he has no integrity, is self centred and greedy to boot especially during these times when so many are struggling. And by the way even ONE death due to poor working conditions while Beckham and his cronies swan about wining and dining and telling each other how great they are is too many!

Are you joking? I can't recall last time I saw anyone on MN write anything nice about DB. Maybe the Queueing thing. Nothing else.

I like David Beckham, He has a squeaky voice but I won't hold that against him. Find us another compliment to Beckham on MN posted in last 4 weeks.
