To feel annoyed about paying £3?

My mum has gone out this evening and has parked her car on a street where you have to pay for parking on an app. For whatever reason, she refuses to download the app and called me to ask if I can pay for her parking because I have the app. However, while we were on the phone, she read a notice that said it's free parking on Sunday's but then quickly followed that up with "oh I don't trust that, just pay for it because I don't want to get a ticket". Slightly confused, I said "mum, it's free. You're not going to get a ticket". After a few minutes of back and forth, I finally gave in and paid the ticket, which was £3. However, the app was registered to my car, not hers, so I had to go back and pay for another ticket for her car which was another £3. So essentially, I have paid £6 for FREE parking!

AIBU to feel slightly irritated?

Yes, YABU. You didn't have to pay anything, yet you did.

Joopy · 02/10/2022 18:36

Can you message and ask for a refund? It's odd that you paid though.

TabithaTittlemouse · 02/10/2022 18:37

Surely you could have just told her that you had done it but not?

Or said no. Or checked what car you were paying for.

GoldenGorilla · 02/10/2022 18:37

I mean….why did you agree? You should have just reiterated that it’s free on Sundays so no need. And then why did you get a ticket for your own car? I just find this weird tbh. I’d be annoyed with myself if I’d done those silly things, is that what you mean?

Harridan1981 · 02/10/2022 18:37

I wouldn't have paid, but if I had I would also have cancelled the first ticket by texting stop within the first 5 mins. If you're talking about Pay by Phone.

SunshineClouds1 · 02/10/2022 18:37

I'd be annoyed at myself not my mum tbh

Yes, YABU. You didn't have to pay anything, yet you did.

Agreed. What an odd post.

Well at least the private parking company directors got bought a drink for nothing eh!

Michellebops · 02/10/2022 18:38

Contact the help section within the app and explain you've made and error and they'll check and refund you both.

I accidentally paid for the wrong car and couldn't cancel it but I then paid for the correct car and messaged them and they refunded the next day.

WeepingSomnambulist · 02/10/2022 18:38

All you had to do was say no. Grow up.

Popcorns · 02/10/2022 18:39

I'd have told her I'd paid, to keep the peace, but obviously not!

bellac11 · 02/10/2022 18:39

Why did you do it. You can normally pay by phone, you dont have to have an app always, unless its one where you can only have an app

DismantledKing · 02/10/2022 18:41

Well, it’s your own fault isn’t it?

AutumnCrow · 02/10/2022 18:42

I'd be annoyed at myself, as pp ^^ says.

But it's a valuable lesson. Not bad for £6. You've started the long process of learning to say No to your mum.

MadeForThis · 02/10/2022 18:45

Just say No

DarkMatternix · 02/10/2022 18:47

The parking apps don't normally let you pay if there's no charges in place. Or it's obvious because if you try and pay for say 2 hours it will tell you parking expires at 10am Monday.

So YABU as you should have stuck to your guns

FirewomanSam · 02/10/2022 18:47

Was it RingGo? It won’t let you pay for parking when it’s free, it will tell you you’re paying for the next available session. So it will show that you’ve paid for parking tomorrow morning, probably.

GrumpyPanda · 02/10/2022 18:48

Are you sure the app will be charging you? The one I'm using i check in when parking the car but only start paying from the point in time paid parking kicks in (9 am in my usual location.)

Atmywitsend29 · 02/10/2022 18:50

Why on earth did you give in?!

Mrsuntidy · 02/10/2022 19:26

YaBU to have paid in the first place.

OriginalUsername3 · 02/10/2022 19:27

In future, how would she know? Just tell her you have.

DevaleraSpawnOfSatan · 02/10/2022 19:29

Is your mother always such a bully and are you always such a pushover. ??

phishy · 02/10/2022 19:29

If she can drive, she can download an app.

You’re annoyed at being a wet lettuce. Say no!

Musti · 02/10/2022 19:30

We’ll get her to pay you back the £6

Meltingsocks · 02/10/2022 19:31

I just use the phrase' I am not enabling this behaviour' when my mum tries this lost child type of shit.

gamerchick · 02/10/2022 19:39

Ask her for the money and say no in future.
