To feel annoyed about paying £3?

My mum has gone out this evening and has parked her car on a street where you have to pay for parking on an app. For whatever reason, she refuses to download the app and called me to ask if I can pay for her parking because I have the app. However, while we were on the phone, she read a notice that said it's free parking on Sunday's but then quickly followed that up with "oh I don't trust that, just pay for it because I don't want to get a ticket". Slightly confused, I said "mum, it's free. You're not going to get a ticket". After a few minutes of back and forth, I finally gave in and paid the ticket, which was £3. However, the app was registered to my car, not hers, so I had to go back and pay for another ticket for her car which was another £3. So essentially, I have paid £6 for FREE parking!

AIBU to feel slightly irritated?

Just pretend to tap your phone a few times surely.

Free parking aside, the answer to this one is obvious for future parking.

I would have lied and said I did it on the phone. Double check on the app/online that your mum had read the sign correctly and then gone about my evening.

I would then make it clear to my mum that I wouldn't be doing it again the next time I saw her. I'd offer to download the app and set up her car on there during my visit.

Very silly. Why did you do this? And just say no?

Butterfly44 · 05/05/2023 07:21

How old are you?

Just say no it's free.
And why post here?

EmpressaurusOfCats · 05/05/2023 07:23

Zombie thread from last October. And not even an exciting one.

YABU to pay for something you knew was free because you can't say no to your mother.

shivawn · 05/05/2023 07:25

I would think nothing of paying for £3 parking for my mum. I agree that's it's annoying that she wanted you to pay even though it was free though.

Why have you revived this old thread?

CaroleSinger · 05/05/2023 08:05

Seeing as she refuses to do it herself I would have refused to pay for her full stop. The app isn't the only means to pay. We have the same system and there are other methods she could have used to pay because they account for people who refuse to use an app. There's a phone number you can ring or a cash option.

Shit. Old thread...

Why have you revived this old thread?

I didn't choose it specifically. It just popped up on 'similar thread'. Didn't notice the date.

BillyNoM8s · 05/05/2023 15:43

Most apps I've used won't actually charge you when the car park in question isn't charging.

I wouldn't have involved myself in this nonsense personally.
