AIBU to be delighted that Michael Gove launched his bid to be Prime Minister on the BBC this morning?

I’m a paid up member of the Labour Party but I’d have gove over truss any day. He’s no less trustworthy that the last few and he knows how to get stuff done. Generally works well with the civil service too. I actually quite liked him as levelling up secretary - and who else is there?? Rishi as chancellor shows he can’t be trusted with the economy and he was also a backstabber. JRM? I’d rather stick pins in my eyes than see that day. If gove is on offer I’d take him!

balalake · 02/10/2022 15:39

I know I'd be better than the current and previous Prime Minister, but apart from getting no thanks, there is no party that has enough policies I could agree with to lead.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 15:56

Jacob Rees mogg is championing Ms Truss. Or he was..
Maybe Michael Gove isn't convinced by the new PM because she was (once ) a remainer?
She isn't behaving like one, but brexit has made people toxic and suspicious!
The conference will be interesting, but she has friends such as Coffey and Braverman and Baker etc. I think she'll power on through it myself. Not much choice

When DS was in year 5, he had to write a sentence with the word 'politician' in it. Obviously he must have listened to my rantings,as he wrote 'Michael Gove is the worst politician ever'. His teacher gave him 5 house points! Grin

However funny this is it shows that there is a problem within the education system.

By law, teachers (whilst teaching) are supposed to be politically impartial.

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 16:02

I've heard children on the playground moaning about politicians. It's obvious they are just parroting their parents views , but it does make me smile. I don't really comment , but I guess that children over hear things and absorb more than we give them credit for ( of course )!
It's a shame that more adults I know don't care about politics or just say ' they are all the same'
Makes my blood boil that one.

Sarah Vine is an airhead.

Abhannmor · 02/10/2022 16:10

Unreasonable? You have suffered too much under 12 years of increasingly deranged Tory government. Reduced to a state of gibbering bewilderment ; of course you place your trust in this harmless looking wee fellow.

He wouldn't hurt a fly......

unsync · 02/10/2022 16:11

Lying cunt. That's all I have to say on this subject.

I don't think there is anything interesting or really controversial about his personal life. Certainly by all accounts treated women infinitely better than Boris Johnson, probably hasn't taken drugs since before becoming an MP, and if he is gay or bisexual, I expect 90% plus of people don't care.

True. I actually like that photo of him dancing in Aberdeen , obviously off his tits. There was one interview a while back where he seemed a bit hyper too.

Still , it's his dreadful performance at education that stands out really.

Prefer Rishi any day. No idea why liz T won?

Because she was prepared to pander to the disaster capitalists including Rees-Mogg and his chums at the European Research Group.

Rishi was not

the80sweregreat · 02/10/2022 17:25

Everyone I know wanted Rishi Sunak
Maybe not at first ( his wife , the historic remarks about working class people etc) but as time went on it was obvious that he knew what was needed for the economy. Tackle inflation first
The bigger problems with the energy companies came after his time, but maybe he might have had a different solution to that as well ? We will never know.
Borrowing Liz , she is getting the money printers out instead.

Which one ?!

canyouextrapol · 02/10/2022 18:06

He's an odious little twat who completely fucked up Education while in charge of it. I dread to think what he'd do to the country

One has to wonder how much worse it can get.

A reasonable proportion of the shit state of the country's economy is already his fault due to Brexit. Remember when he leaked (lied?) that the Queen wanted Brexit?

jgw1 · 02/10/2022 19:19

It seems that very many posters on this thread have not understood my OP.

I am delighted that Gove has thrown his hat into the ring, because 3 weeks after Truss became Prime Minister there is already the start of a campaign to replace her. That means the Tories will continue to bicker with themselves whilst ignoring the country thus sealing their fate at the next election.

Why is everyone voting that AIBU?

I voted YABU because Gove has not thrown his hat into the ring to be PM, he has hinted that he'll defy the government to vote against or abstain on the tax plan. A load of conservatives did this over hard Brexit in 2019 and DID have the whip removed, but how many of them tried to bring down the government? How many even entered the next leadership contest? I didn't misunderstand the OP, I just think it's wildly speculative.

Abhannmor · 03/10/2022 17:41

Some ' consultant' woman ( tax i suppose ) was on Radio 4 describing him as a backstabber and as another Ted Heath .

I think this means Communist out there in consultant land . He supported Badenoch and then Sunak. Might be a problem for the membership?
