To think we’ll have a new government by Christmas?

Stay with me here - I know this might have sounded unlikely even as recently as a couple of weeks ago, but thanks to recent events, I think it’s looking more likely by the day.

Does anyone else agree, or am I alone in my thinking here?

I should add here that I’m fed up of the political musical chairs that has characterised our governments over the past 5 years or so, but curious to see if we get a new government over the next couple of months.

FFS

Jeremy Hunt and Kier Starmer are the only adults in the room at this point and we're reduced to taking the next available grown up.

What I’m hoping is that the petition results, and the strikes this autumn and winter, will force the government to accept the huge strength of feeling against their recent policies and force them to act - whether that’s by getting rid of Liz Truss and electing someone else as PM, or even calling a general election.

I doubt it. The petition isn’t exactly doing very well. I remember the one to block Trump from making a state visit got to 1.25m pretty quickly. I can’t see this one getting to that figure and, even if it did, so what? There are something like 45-50 million eligible voters in the UK, with about a two third turnout in the last election.

Even if everyone signing the petition was registered to vote in the UK, you’d probably need at least 20 million signatures for it to be taken remotely seriously.
