We were paying £960pm, that's gone down to £800 from this month.
Just wondering what people pay?

£800. We could afford a more expensive house but given the current climate we are very glad we didn’t.

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 02/10/2022 12:14

£560 but we have only got about £70k left on it so it's quite a small mortgage now.

We are 2 years into a 5 year fixed rate deal so keeping everything crossed that all of this is over by the time we have to shop around again!

Pinkwithwhite · 02/10/2022 21:45

Thank you. DH seems to think that we rates will drop in the spring 🤔.

We can't do anything until March so will see what state everything will be in by then.

Got a 10-year fixed earlier in the year. Pay £493 a month but are trying to pay extra every month to get it paid off earlier than its 22 years.

May I add a nosey question onto this thread?

In general, what age are you due to finish paying your mortgage / did you finish paying your mortgage?

Topseyt123 · 02/10/2022 22:31

£0, thankfully. Paid it off about 18 months ago.

49, which is why it's so high. We remortgaged into the shorter term with a 10-year fix when interest was low. The payment doubled, but we'll be done ages sooner.

novalia89 · 03/10/2022 00:00

I was 27 when I took out a 22 year mortgage on a city centre flat (16ish left) but I think that I could pay it off in 7 years if I really tried. I only have £68k left on it.
However this definitely isn't my forever home, so I will probably have to take out a new 25ish year mortgage when I am 35. That's using the large deposit to buy an average house :(

47 - we took a 25 year mortgage in our early 20s.

Isyesterdaytomorrowtoday · 03/10/2022 07:40

I’ll be about 40 if everything goes to plan. Took mortgage out at 28 and bought ‘forever’ (until kids move out) home - we’ve been investing to offset as interest rates have been low. Got another 3years fixed then I think 2-3 years after that we’ll be able to finish paying it hopefully.

Heathershimmerwasmyshade · 03/10/2022 07:43

260 pm fixed till next April. Three bed detached with garage and large gardens. In Scotland so that’s prob why it’s cheaper

JayPritchet · 03/10/2022 13:08

£500

ThrowingSomeCrumbs · 03/10/2022 13:18

£320. A large mortgage and the anxiety of what would happen if we couldn't pay it terrifies me so we live in a much smaller house than anyone else I know in order to have a small mortgage. After 15 we also have quite a lot of equity built up if worst came to the worst.

PointyMcguire · 03/10/2022 15:55

£1150 p/m fixed until 2025. Combined income is a little over £150k with bonuses and LTV is 50%. House value has also increased 20% since we purchased and that’s before taking into account renovations we’ve done since we bought. We’ve both recently paid off our student loans so now chucking that into overpayments to help lower the term.

Minimochi · 03/10/2022 16:06

About 1000€/month on a 25 year fixed rate mortgage. We'll be in our sixties when we pay it off but it isn't our first house. Value has tripled since we bought it three years ago.

Royalbloo · 03/10/2022 16:09

£1552

Wheretheskyisblue · 03/10/2022 16:17

Completely irrelevant question. Ours is £2.5k per month but fixed at a very low rate and could pay it off with savings if required. Will probably pay it off in our late 40s when fixed rate ends unless we buy a bigger house.

GreenCardi · 03/10/2022 17:12

@Minimochi 😵 tripled in three years? Is that Dublin?

GreenCardi · 03/10/2022 17:12

@GreenCardi Nope. We live within commuting distance (public transport or car) of Frankfurt, in Germany. We bought the house for 250k. It's now worth about 700-800k.
We did do quite a bit of work on it and had to put in central heating, etc.

Christmasfun2022 · 03/10/2022 20:15

Around £950 PM. We fixed at below 1% on a 5 year term in December…feel VERY relieved! It’s was just good luck as our first 5 year fix happened to come to an end then.

Christmasfun2022 · 03/10/2022 20:19

And we will finish paying the mortgage when we are around 57, in 20 years 😳. However we have our dream home, and also have a lot of equity in it and it’s increased in value loads since we bought it (apparently!) so am thinking if anything disastrous happened we always have the option of selling up and downsizing. Also hope to overpay more once we are out of the expensive nursery fees time of life!

toddlingtortoise · 03/10/2022 20:24

£0. Paid it off last year following an inheritance. I was £1800 a month and we had paid off lump sums to take it down to £1500. I am pleased to have no mortgage as it makes life easier as a lone parent and I do have a lovely home.

Bywayofanupdate · 03/10/2022 20:24

1500, about to increase massively but we might go onto interest only for a couple of years which will keep it more or less the same

Smileeriley · 04/10/2022 00:27

I'm selling up on going on HAP.
