And submit them.
New cap tomorrow = price hike.

That it.
That's the thread.

I think the vat is included here.

Don't stress it, really. Once it clicks what is what, you will be laughing. Some things just for whatever reason don't click in the brain no matter how simple they are for quite a while. Happens to all of us.

Leave out the zero at the end. You should have 4 numbers. 2500kwh is a yearly use, not 2 months unless you are growing certain plants, but then you wouldn't need to worry about bills!

So it's (250 x 0.29) + (58 x 39.67) = 72.5 + 23 = 95.5 so approx £1.64 a day

So you have 95 pounds and I worked it out as 74 pounds?

I dont understand what you mean about the zero, what zero?

2500 was what the readings were when one was taken away from the other?

I clocked onto it just because it's reletaed everywhere now, otherwise I would just nod🙈 Thanks Liz lol

I wouldn’t mind but I spent two hours today calculating different scenarios, working out whether to come out of fix. Apparently didn’t learn anything from it. I’ve got kWh blindness. 😁

bellac11 · 30/09/2022 23:53

But in any case its not 171 which is what seems to have come out of my account for the electric.

I havent even got round to the gas yet, I do find this stressful

More so that they're not even open to ring at weekends and close at 5 on weekdays, I cant even ring them, I dont get home from work until after that, so I have no idea why it debited 171 from the electric account.

I can’t quite picture what it’s done.

See if it updates overnight.

If not, screenshot the relevant screen, redact your details and post it here.

It’s easier to work out when you’re looking at it and we’ll all be more awake in daytime.

InCheesusWeTrust · 30/09/2022 23:59

@FromageRouge actually I just looked up some manual on how to understand meters and it says 5 numbers so you weren't wrong, but something is wrong here because 2500kwh in 2 months is not anywhere in normal-ish household use, is it

FromageRouge · 01/10/2022 00:00

Yes you’re right. I think I’m too tired to hold a thought straight.

FromageRouge · 01/10/2022 00:02

It was me that added in the zero when I did the calculation, I mean. I started off the confusion.

Yes my OH just said the same, so fucked off with how difficult it is to work this stuff out and/or even get hold of people.

I have two degrees!!!

No worries, I am an expert at confusion!

Fucks sake. It's because it's 500😂

Ok. Recalculation on friday brain
(500x0.29)+(58x0.3967) =168 and change

Many apologies for confusing you more!

Hope this helps!

It should actually be oretty easy unless you bump into explainers like @FromageRouge and I😂

Process
Take your reading (discard red number), tak off your previous reading and you are left with your use. Than
(Use units x unit costs) + (standing charge per day x number of days since last reading) = should equal your bill

bellac11 · 01/10/2022 00:10

Theres no red numbers in my readings

Blowthemandown · 01/10/2022 00:12

@takliyah my SMETS2 (2nd gen) smart meter should still have worked when I changed supplier but it has taken 12 months - first auto reading sent today. First gen ones can’t be reprogrammed to another supplier unfortunately.

Right I have just worked out what you mean, our usage over that 2 months is 500 things, not 2500 things?

Which means 500 x 29p and then the standing charge is around 168 pounds with the VAT presumably added on means 171

That is incredibly high and thats the 'cheap' price before its gone up today

So just looking at this as an 'average' use per month over the last two months of 250 things

If I take my manual reading from October 2021 and take that away from the reading today (11 months worth), it equals an average use of 355 things per month.

That seems very high, I dont know if it is or not?

InCheesusWeTrust · 01/10/2022 00:35

It can be. Average is about 2500 kwh a year. But it really depends on things like if you use it for heating etc.

I was on some other threads about this a few weeks back I really dont understand how our usage is so high

We have gas central heating, gas water (no electric shower), gas hob although electric oven.

3 bed semi. Partner does work from home some days of the week but doesnt really have the heating on but obviously does use his work computer, I dont know if that makes a difference. He does have these alexa things and also some set top boxes on both TVs.

No tumble dryer, no air con. We do use a dehumidifier to help dry washing in the winter.

Our usage sounds like its virtually double the average.

TheClitterati · 01/10/2022 06:08

Keep reading your meters and submitting the figures everyone. As many have suggested here, it's not too late as the energy cos as giving some leeway.

The last time I read mine was April. And my smart meter is not so smart. I'm going to set a diary note to venture into the spidery cupboard & read the meter on the 1st of every month over winter.

I topped up my dumb prepayment metre as much as possible yesterday so hopefully will keep those rates until it runs out.

Jedsnewstar · 01/10/2022 08:16

I may have rounded up mine a little.

It does. There was a gread on how much things cost to run. Maybe you need to get the measure you out in a socket and go around the house checking things.
I wfh and use like third of what you do. Alexas make no difference

bellac11 · 01/10/2022 11:00

Yes someone recommended a socket measure and I looked them up on Amazon and didnt go any further but I do need one.
