Like @InCheesusWeTrust we get OUR energy provider nagging us to have a smart meter too. Been doing it for 3 or 4 years they have. Around once a month. Sometimes emails, and sometimes letters. Their most recent attempt was a letter with the heading... 'YOU ARE DUE YOUR SMART METER! BOOK YOUR APPOINTMENT NOW!' They worded it as if we had no choice and it was mandatory. Some people would think it WAS mandatory!

They can get tae fuck! No way are we having one.

@TheClitterati Also, thanks for the reminder. Did mine at 3 minutes past midnight. The sites were very quiet then, and I got the confirmation through that they got it! Grin As has been said though, people have til 14th October to send it in. Last time they said they all have to be in on that one day, and all hell, broke loose!!! So this is better. Smile

It’s been a long time since I saw a prepayment meter? But don’t you load them with £s rather than kWhs? So loading extra in won’t make any difference will it? They’ll still charge the units at the relevant rate as the time they’re used, won’t they? Or am I confused?

Not if they are dumb (not smart). You load them up at the cost per kwh when you loaded the key. They cannot remotely change prices. As I said earlier. I am still on March rates

Wouldn't hav ethat issue if they didn't lie about credit meters to me years ago😂

When you top up the price per kw is loaded into the key/card at the time of purchase. So as long as its paid for before the price increase tomorrow. It will still be at todays rate

My letters keep saying its certificate is out of date and could be inaccurate. Please call to arrange a smart meter. I dont think so * *

I was listening to something on the radio about this.
It doesn't have to be the exact day, and you can record the values now and submit in the next few days so their servers don't get overloaded and the phone lines are still free for vulnerable people reporting issues.

Good job everyone.

I have a smart meter but it doesn't work. My first winter in this house with the smart meter (my first) it was telling me extraordinary daily rates. So we basically froze. Then I figured out the meter figures were way off. It made me unnecessarily anxious & was wrong so I packed the screen away.

Bulb used to read remotely but British Gas don't. Just wacky estimates. So much data yet always do wrong.

My smart meter has been mostly offline in the 18 months I’ve had it, too. Does anybody have one that works properly? I’m starting to think they’re all complete crap.

It's today, so you don't get charged the new higher rate for electricity that you used before the prices change again tomorrow
