Parking Space?

Light hearted but my partner thinks I'm bonkers (& I'm ok with being told I am if you agree!!!!!).

If I'm at work, I usually park in a large multi storey car. I always park reversed into a space on the left hand side, second row. If there isn't a space available there, I'll ignore the rest and go to the next floor.

I typically end up on floors 4, 5 or 6. In the evening if I can't remember the floor I just go to 5 and will only have to go up one or down one if I'm wrong. I usually remember and if i'm early I'm on 4 and late I'm on 6. He think it's bonkers to go up a floor if there are spaces available.

I've done this for years but his car is in the garage so I've given him a lift this week.

Please tell me you have a favourite parking space for convenience.

I worked with a woman who used to get to work early to make sure she didn’t have to go up the multi storey car park. She couldn’t manage the bends!!!!

NurseInTraining · 29/09/2022 21:39

I have a favourite spot in the local supermarket (it is in a single row so you can drive in and out without reversing and has a trolley park nearby plus it is so close to the shop).
You are bonkers but totally understandable! 😂

ShowOfHands · 29/09/2022 21:42

I park in the same spot at Sainsbury's every time. Back of the car park, next to the trolley store. I also park in the same spot at the multistorey, go up a floor if necessary, same spot at work and so on.

Creature of habit.

Sweetmotherofallthatisholyabov · 29/09/2022 21:46

Since having the kids/being pregnant I'm very specific about where I'll park in the super market and shopping center, taking into account trolleys, proximity to door, trolley bay, access to both sides of the car and boot. So it's more practical than anything else.

But on a busy Saturday or Christmas I'll let it go. Bahahahha who am I kidding. I won't go to a supermarket or shopping center on a Saturday oR Christmas unless I'm there first thing.

HelloDoggy · 29/09/2022 21:47

I don't park in a multi storey anymore, but when I did I definitely had a favourite spot!! It was on the ground floor. When that spot was gone, my next favourite was on the top floor!! I would never park anywhere in between 🤣😉

alloutoflunchideas · 29/09/2022 21:49

Yes!! I do this too

Tallisker · 29/09/2022 21:49

I started reading thinking you were ridiculous, then realised I park in the same spaces every time. So now I'm ridiculous too Grin

eldora · 29/09/2022 21:52

It depends on how long the walk is from your fave parking space to the lift.

But yes, I agree with your husband, I think this is cray cray.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 29/09/2022 21:53

I had a favourite floor and it wasn’t just because it was the direct access to a slope directly into the shopping centre, for mil wheeled trolly or later on, her wheel chair. Must have saved hundreds of toes and legs being bashed by her when using the lift instead of that slope.
(had slightly wider bays too)

OldEnoughToHaveReadBunty · 29/09/2022 21:53

I do have a favourite car park space at work but mostly have to park wherever the car fits. Our car park is like Tetris mostly with people blocking people in all the time.

2pinkginsplease · 29/09/2022 21:55

O would just park on the first available space as long as it wasn’t an end spot as i fear my car getting hit when someone goes around the corner.

CourtneeLuv · 29/09/2022 22:02

You people picking in the same spot are just asking to be kidnapped.

Although I do have a favourite area of most of the supermarkets, and a favourite hob ring, and reusable shopping bag, and most other saddo things like that.

ThirtyThreeTrees · 29/09/2022 23:07

Ah thanks, I'll take bonkers but understandable@NurseInTraining

@CourtneeLuv he told me I'm ripe for stalking or kidnapping too!

We've agreed that I'm going to continue doing it and he's going to continue to slag me about it!!! Both happy.

Depends on the time of year, in Summer I like to get one of the spots under the trees for shade even though it makes for a longer walk.

BlackberryCat · 29/09/2022 23:12

I think women often have a lot more on their minds than men, so you don’t have to worry about remembering where you parked the car on top of everything else. At my supermarket, I almost always park in the roof car park, but occasionally I park on the lower car park and sometimes I get myself confused about where the car is. Just give him a long lecture about mental load and that should shut him up.

RausageSoul · 29/09/2022 23:21

Oh absolutely! In a multi storey, it's left hand row and reverse in. I will also go up an entire floor to get a space like this. It just makes sense to me!

Weird too because my house/drive is on the right side of the road and I reverse into that which you'd think would make the right hand side more 'appealing?'

PearlWithTheGirlEarring · 29/09/2022 23:32

Every car park has at least one ‘God Spot’. It’s the law.

usually an end space or one next to a disabled or p&c that has hatching to the side. There is a very special one in my local town that’s tucked away and virtually nobody every parks in it other than me.

Kite22 · 29/09/2022 23:33

I don't disagree that if we were going into an empty car park each day, that most of us would park in the same spot, day after day.

What I think is odd is that, on finding "your" space is full, you don't then just park in the next spot you come to

Blackalice · 29/09/2022 23:37

I go up until the firsr nearly deserted floor in a multi storey. Totally don't get why you would settle for a tight spot when you just go up a bit and you can have your pick, preferably a drive in and out!

All adults have a favourite hob ring right? cough Back left cough

BruceHellerAlmighty · 29/09/2022 23:38

We're all creatures of habit really I think. I have favourite places to park, to sit on the bus, on the trains (different for different types of trains 🤦‍♀️), in cinemas, theatres and so on. I guess it's a way of feeling there's some kind of physical order in a harsh and crazy rough and tumble world.
