Work refusing to pay me

Winedrinkerbynight · 29/09/2022 19:13

They say I haven’t updated my bank details in the system but I have! HR are saying they can’t pay me until I’ve updated my details in the same, so I updated my details in the system again and HR are still saying they can’t pay me! This is all because I want it paid into my account and not the joint account with my ex that it was being paid into

Look on the bright side - at least you're now assured it won't go into the joint account.

I’m back in the office again tomorrow so will go to the HR office and ask to speak to someone about it, as I was only on the phone to them from my desk today

Request an advance while they look into it. Tell they you need the money and cannot wait.

Seashor · 29/09/2022 19:29

Are you in a union? If you are speak to them asap.

MrsMoastyToasty · 29/09/2022 19:31

Phone ACAS for help.

missbipolar · 29/09/2022 19:37

When did you try to change it vs when is pay day?

Sapphire387 · 29/09/2022 19:38

Can you screenshot where you have updated your details and send it to them?

HotDogJumpingFrogHaveACookie · 29/09/2022 19:39

When did you update your details and when is the cut off for payroll?

Your manager is right, it isn't for them to get involved in.

Bananaman123 · 29/09/2022 19:42

Someone I know had a similar issue he told her and updated system NOT to use joint account, they did so he refused to work again til his money was in the bank account he told them to use

Join a union.

Tell your company that you are charging an admin fee to cover any bank charges and your time that you are spending sorting this out. And interest at a daily rate until it hits your account. Calculate how much this will be and hand the invoice to the HR manager tomorrow.

Sorry OP. They are not refusing to pay you, they are trying to make you understand that there is an issue with your input. I deal with this all the time at work. We have a system where pay details are input at user level and sometimes it hasn't been done correctly and it is very difficult to make people understand that they have to do it again because a screen was missed or a box was not checked, etc. Believe me, your pay department is eager for this to be settled because it is a lot of work for them if a pay action can't be processed.

I’ve put the pay details in about 4 times though! And they are not willing to help me

This is far, far more likely than them refusing to pay you. It may well be that there is a glitch in the system and it looks to you like you've updated your details but it hasn't actually gone through. They will be wanting to sort this out as much as you do, it might just need some IT input. Talk of going on strike and calling ACAS is bonkers.
