The rapper Coolio has passed away at the age of 59.

Was a big fan of Gangster’s Paradise as a kid.

It's Gangsta's Paradise 😊

That was definitely a song of my youth. My 9 year old son loves it and plays it often.

Re @VroomVrooom's post, I didn't take it to be petty or distasteful. I read it and thought "oh, that's interesting, I didn't know that and will need to check it out".

He was a genuinely nice person as well - can’t see anyone out there with a bad word for him, a lot of big names in the industry were happy to see him get his moment and his dues. “Too Hot” was a great record as well.

Pastime Paradise came on - and I was blown away. I love Gangsta’s Paradise, and didn’t realise it was originally a Stevie Wonder. There’s no sampling, it’s essentially the same song.

I thought it was an interesting snippet, I sincerely didn’t mean to offend anyone.

Of course its a sample. It samples the opening string section of Stevie's song and the lyrics and beat are completely different. It's not the same song at all. That's how hip hop artists create music.

Such a shock to hear Coolio has died. Love him and his music

Eh? Agree to disagree? You understand how sampling works right? They're not the same songs at all. None of Stevies lyrics are in Gangstas Paradise, only the string section of the original song 🙄
Stevie performed the song with Coolio at the Emmys back in the 90s
