The rapper Coolio has passed away at the age of 59.

Was a big fan of Gangster’s Paradise as a kid.

RIP.

They’re essentially the same song. They’re both right there on You Tube / Spotify / wherever you get your music for anyone to listen to. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had no strong feelings either way for Coolio. I quite liked Gangsters Paradise but rap isn't a genre I'm really into.

However, he was only a couple of years older than me and together with the death of a close friend at 62 recently, has strengthened my decision to retire ASAP as we don't know how long we have in this world. I'm getting philosophical very early in the morning.

And as for the sampling....its a well known musical technique especially in that genre. As long as its credited, what's the problem?

Can you ease up there on that debate? This is the second thread about Coolio that's got lost in a debate.

Sadly I don’t think you do, Stevie Wonder approved the sample and has always had credit for the song rights because of it, Coolio changed some of his lyrics to get that approval.

You clearly don't understand how sampling works AT ALL. Incredible though how you can be so staunchly stubborn about something you know nothing about. The very fact you waded in on a thread about an artists death to proclaim that the song they were so well known for was taken from someone else is pretty awful. Especially when it's not true.

He always seemed so much nicer than many other rappers, and his music was fantastic. We had Gangsta’s Paradise played at the disco at our wedding reception. What a tune.

I remember sitting in a pub about 20 years ago. Everyone had been to the races so was a huge group of people ranging from age 18 up to late 70s. Gangstas paradise came on and every single person knew the words and sang it with abandon.

I remember having a very steamy time on the dance floor to gangsta's paradise back in the 90's with a work crush! I'm sure coolio would approve !
