Glasgow or Liverpool to host Eurovision

I've just read on the daily mail that these two cities are the final two in the running to host Eurovision. The comments on it are really quite horrible, and I am hoping to have a nice thread where we can talk about the benefits of both of these cities in hosting the Eurovision (I am from one of the Cities mentioned - not saying what one I listed them in alphabetical order on the heading 😁). they are both great contenders as far as I'm concerned.

is it possible to have a positive conversation about this? Can we beat the Daily mail readers and find something good to say?

In the last two weeks I've been in the Arena in Liverpool and just last night in The Hydro.
I'm just outside Glasgow so more convenient but I loved what I saw of Liverpool too.

I live in London it’s probably easier to get to Glasgow by aeroplane then it is to get to Liverpool by train

How odd, last time I went it took 2 hours 10 minutes by train.

I live in and in from Glasgow so 😁

Will Ferrell actually filmed part of the Eurovision film at the hydro in Glasgow where it would be posted. Surely a point in our favour?!

Think we also proved ourselves with cop last year.

I wanted Manchester to get it because then I might have been able to go.

But from the pictures I have seen the Glasgow Arena looks great and the Will Ferrell film was such fun that I suppose it would be nice if it was there.

Ja Ja Ding Dong

No it isn't

FindingMarbles · 28/09/2022 00:24

I think it's easier to go from central London to GLASGOW by train than flying, as well as cheaper (or it used to be) and less stressful.

bloodyplanes · 28/09/2022 07:38

I was hoping for Newcastle but now I hope Glasgow gets it.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 28/09/2022 07:51

Both are great cities but for me personally, Liverpool has the edge. Also, they have a twin city in Ukraine which should count for something.

I think Glasgow is probably the more likely option, but rooting for Liverpool here!

Bbq1 · 28/09/2022 07:58

Liverpool of course... Our musical history, our general history and culture, our great hotels, a Liverpudlian welcome. Hands down it should be here.

The event would be lucky to have Liverpool, such a fab city

Yes, they are proud of “doing things differently” there, for example they don’t “snitch.” Great city.

Scoose · 28/09/2022 12:54

Are you for real Tippexy? Contrary to your belief we are not all in support of criminals
What a ridiculous comment

"They don't snitch'

What a horribly ignorant comment.

Firstly, the vast majority of people in Liverpool AREN'T criminals. No more criminals here than any other large city

Secondly, the last time I heard snitch used I was about 6 in the playground.

With those views the 1980's want you back.

And the pathetic comment of the day goes to....🙄

AR-AY those Scousers won't ever snitch. If they do, deeez boyz will come for em!

True though… 🤷🏾

QueenJaineApproximately · 28/09/2022 23:30

Thanks OP for trying to start a fun thread which it was at first, but it now appears that those Daily Mail readers have woken up and spoiled it by making offensive comments. What horrible lives they must lead.

twilightermummy · 28/09/2022 23:35

Glasgow for me. I love Scotland 😊

Indiana2021 · 28/09/2022 23:46

Glasgow makes so much sense. Hotels, Arena, BBC Headquarters and a huge red shed to keep everything all sitting on top of each other. Throw in the motorway on ramp to the airport right there too and it's a win, win!
Hope GCC tidy the place up a bit though. the City Centre needs another spruce up. We came so far after become the City of Culture and looked amazing during the Commonwealth Games. If Eurovision gets them a push to tidy up and get us gleaming again then all the better.

Indiana2021 · 28/09/2022 23:47

gives them a push

Mydogatemypurse · 29/09/2022 00:06

Liverpool has the echo area and amazing hotels. But the old school hate and prejudice towards this amaxing and kind city wont like that. Get ready for the pathetic and untrue hold your purse jokes when its the kindest safest city ever

Yutes · 29/09/2022 00:08

I think both cities and locals there will make it a completely brilliant experience.

GrandTheftWalrus · 29/09/2022 00:10

What red shed in Glasgow?

Indiana2021 · 29/09/2022 00:19

Was the original nickname for the SECC when it was first built (and was red).
Just like the the Clyde Auditorium was christened the Armadillo (although that one stuck!)
Excellent storage space for things and people right next to the arena

Indiana2021 · 29/09/2022 00:22

Big red shed in 1988 (before it was re-done in dull grey)

The armadillo is still so named. Even on gig adverts
