Glasgow or Liverpool to host Eurovision

PineappleSlushies · 27/09/2022 18:15

I've just read on the daily mail that these two cities are the final two in the running to host Eurovision. The comments on it are really quite horrible, and I am hoping to have a nice thread where we can talk about the benefits of both of these cities in hosting the Eurovision (I am from one of the Cities mentioned - not saying what one I listed them in alphabetical order on the heading 😁). they are both great contenders as far as I'm concerned.

is it possible to have a positive conversation about this? Can we beat the Daily mail readers and find something good to say?

I live near one of the other cities that have been knocked out and would've loved it to be local but I've always said Glasgow should host it.
If we want the rest of Europe to feel comfortable when they're here then Scotland is definitely the better choice.

Why would they feel more comfortable? Liverpool doesn't have secretarism like Glasgow does. Can you explain more?

Florence777 · 27/09/2022 19:33

Secretarism?? 😂😂😂

Westfacing · 27/09/2022 19:35

Two very similar cities - should be fine in either!

RoachTheHorse · 27/09/2022 19:37

I'm annoyed as any of the other northern cities I have free places to sleep so could try for tickets. 🤣

Otherwise I'm sure they'll both be great!

Whataplanker · 27/09/2022 19:38

Come on Liverpool!

MistressIggi · 27/09/2022 19:39

I don't think accessibility from London is the only factor though, otherwise why not just hold the darn thing in London?

secretllama · 27/09/2022 19:39

PineappleSlushies · 27/09/2022 19:25

Well yes, but Liverpool is more accessible to more people. People coming from London or the South of England would find Liverpool easier to travel to and London has a much bigger population than the whole of Scotland. Liverpool is more accessible for Wales as well. I think you're right about Northern Ireland.

I'm in Glasgow btw, so I am not arguing for Liverpool because I live there. I think Glasgow has good transport links from most of the UK though. But it will be a factor.

But people in Scotland always gets shafted for things like this...najor events like award shows are usually in London and tours often miss Scotland all together. So without being mean I dont really have sympathy if people in the South have to travel further, sorry as its always us!

I'm in England and without a doubt it should be Glasgow! I think Glasgow has always been the favourite though, at least from what I've seen. Will be surprised if Liverpool get it.

I'm not saying I think it should be in Liverpool. I just think whoever is going to make the decision would take it into consideration. Maybe a small consideration. I'm pretty sure it will sell out in either city!

I'm local to Liverpool and hope that it's here as I'm due to have a baby in a couple months and I'd really like to be able to go! I'm not sure I could swing traveling to Glasgow with a small baby at home that needs me, but for sure could do Liverpool! 😂

JanetandJohn500 · 27/09/2022 19:45

Clearly it should be ours. We're boss 🤣

Has Glasgow been the favourite? Actually... are the bookies taking bets on this?

I just googled and found this....

As you'd expect, bookmakers have now updated their odds, but Scotland's second city remains in the lead. William Hill has Glasgow at 1/2, with Liverpool at 13/8.

What does this mean in English! I don't understand odds. What does those odds mean! So Glasgow is the favourite atm?

Two great choices!

SwedishEdith · 27/09/2022 19:52

Liverpool and Odessa are twin cities. Gotta be Liverpool.

catandcoffee · 27/09/2022 19:56

After the amazing way 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 looked after The Queen ,its got to be Scotland.

KassandraOfSparta · 27/09/2022 19:58

I live about 4 miles from the Hydro and am DESPERATE for it to be in Glasgow. We hosted Cop 26 a year ago - loads of hotel accommodation, good links to the airport on the motorway, BBC building across the river.

And I am right at the front of the queue if they are looking for volunteers.

Sceptre86 · 27/09/2022 20:00

I vote for Glasgow, the kids will stay with their gran and I can go.

Puffalicious · 27/09/2022 20:02

Glasgow please!!! I live 10 mins from the Hydro- I can walk in 30ish! I also love Liverpool- a great city- but Glasgow's music scene has always been awesome, and is very vibrant right now. It's also much bigger than Liverpool- more capacity all round. Our tag-line is so very true: People Make Glasgow.

Thegap · 27/09/2022 20:03

Both cities are great, love Liverpool but Glasgow would be excellent, plenty to see and do.

KassandraOfSparta · 27/09/2022 20:05

I also really don't think that travelling/accessibility from other parts of UK is in any way relevant. It's more about accessibility from airports for people travelling from Slovenia or Spain. Both Liverpool and Glasgow have airports close to the city centre, this was one of the main criteria for shortlisting and probably where places like Sheffield fell short.

womaninatightspot · 27/09/2022 20:08

I hope it’s in Glasgow too tbh

Greenbeanmcgee · 27/09/2022 20:12

I love my city but I don't want Glasgow to get it in its present condition. The city centre is a dump and I'd be embarrassed to have so many people from around the world see it like that. I avoid going in as much as possible now. If it'll be cleaned up for Eurovision then that's a different story.

MaggieFS · 27/09/2022 20:12

@properdoughnut Will they be postcards from the UK or Ukraine? It will be interesting to see how they balance the two 'hosts'.

idiotfacelicker · 27/09/2022 20:13

I would be extremely surprised if it doesn't go to Glasgow.

It has a recent track record of successfully holding a major international event and the optics of giving it to a Scottish city would be good.

Yes, you are absolutely right. I was responding to a comment about accessibility from the UK. I was just thinking geographically about that. I was thinking inside the box!
