Glasgow or Liverpool to host Eurovision

PineappleSlushies · 27/09/2022 18:15

I've just read on the daily mail that these two cities are the final two in the running to host Eurovision. The comments on it are really quite horrible, and I am hoping to have a nice thread where we can talk about the benefits of both of these cities in hosting the Eurovision (I am from one of the Cities mentioned - not saying what one I listed them in alphabetical order on the heading 😁). they are both great contenders as far as I'm concerned.

is it possible to have a positive conversation about this? Can we beat the Daily mail readers and find something good to say?

Hoping for Glasgow!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 27/09/2022 20:14

Both are great cities with great people. But i would like Glasgow (cause it's dead handy for me 😁)

KassandraOfSparta · 27/09/2022 20:16

I think the ethos of the Eurovision next year - whoever hosts - is that it's Ukraine's party in our house. I would expect to see a lot of Ukrainian dancing, food etc, probably people who have made the UK their home. I don't think it's really appropriate to use it to pitch UK tourism and culture in this situation.

Secretarism?? 😂😂😂

Long day. 😂

SirChenjins · 27/09/2022 20:18

Glasgow of course - it’s already had a practise run in the film so it knows what it’s doing (although granted it was shared with Edinburgh)

And we certainly know how to throw a party! 🤣🥳

Great point! Such a fun film.

@properdoughnut Will they be postcards from the UK or Ukraine? It will be interesting to see how they balance the two 'hosts'.

Ooh yes!!! Hadn't thought of that.

TheTeddyBears · 27/09/2022 20:21

Love Glasgow but I live on outskirts so possibly a bit biased but it's a great city! Liverpool is fab too but not quite as gd as Glasgow.

Ponoka7 · 27/09/2022 20:23

I've just looked up the dates and the premier league fixtures. Liverpool play at Anfield on one of the dates, Everton at Goodison on another. So I don't know if that will influence the decision.

Ginger1982 · 27/09/2022 20:27

What date is it supposed to be held on?

Doormice · 27/09/2022 20:30

I hope Liverpool gets it because Glasgow is too far for me to travel!

averythinline · 27/09/2022 20:32

Fab either way ....hoping its Liverpool as my friend lives there and the the teens are talking about how to get tickets ....it'll be such a buzz...

HundredYearsOfSolitude · 27/09/2022 20:35

I'm from Liverpool originally but hope Glasgow gets it! Outside Liverpool city centre much of the city is a mess with gangs, shootings, and poverty.

Oh so other cities are different..... 🤔

Celia24 · 27/09/2022 20:53

I live in and in from Glasgow so 😁

Will Ferrell actually filmed part of the Eurovision film at the hydro in Glasgow where it would be posted. Surely a point in our favour?!

Think we also proved ourselves with cop last year.

Celia24 · 27/09/2022 20:53

where it would be hosted*

Judijudi · 27/09/2022 21:03

Definitely Glasgow!

Banana2079 · 27/09/2022 21:05

I live in London it’s probably easier to get to Glasgow by aeroplane then it is to get to Liverpool by train

Excellent username 👌

But I want it to be Glasgow as I'll be working at it

bawsy · 27/09/2022 21:35

Love both cities, but I'm Scottish and would love to see it in Glasgow.

Whoever gets it will do Ukraine proud

jamimmi · 27/09/2022 21:40

Glaswigian hear. I hope liverpool gets it. Son is a student there it's a fabulous city but gets forgotten about as its close to Manchester . Glasgow has had in memory many events.cop, the commonwealth games, the film , and the.garden festival ( going back abit there) and city of culture. Time for another lovely amazing people and city to have a bite of the cherry. Culturally they are similar. GO liverpool. ( oh and it would mean no wee nicola banging on about independence)

jcyclops · 27/09/2022 21:44

I don't care which of the two is selected, I'm sure it will be great either way.

Just a note on attendance as there seems to be a lot wanting to go:

The Pala Olympico in Turin that hosted in 2022 has a capacity of 16,600 (basketball) 15,657 (centre stage layout) 13,347 (end stage layout) or 12,350 (ice hockey layout). For Eurovision there were just 7,000 tickets.

The maximum capacity in Glasgow is 14,300 and in Liverpool 11,000, So I would guess that there will only be about 6,000 tickets for Glasgow and 5,000 for Liverpool available.

In Turin, as well as the final there were two live semi-finals and 6 rehearsals open to the public. If the format remains the same you might consider trying for tickets for these.

LouisaA8 · 27/09/2022 22:21

I was checking the prices for tickets in Turin - More expensive than I thought. I'm hoping to find a nice local place to watch it on the big screen maybe. It's a shame though, might not be in the UK for a long time.
