Glasgow or Liverpool to host Eurovision

I've just read on the daily mail that these two cities are the final two in the running to host Eurovision. The comments on it are really quite horrible, and I am hoping to have a nice thread where we can talk about the benefits of both of these cities in hosting the Eurovision (I am from one of the Cities mentioned - not saying what one I listed them in alphabetical order on the heading 😁). they are both great contenders as far as I'm concerned.

is it possible to have a positive conversation about this? Can we beat the Daily mail readers and find something good to say?

Eh? It's a little over 2 hours from London to Liverpool on the train.

It's The North. Londoner probably hasn't seen a train map of the west coast mainline.

I live in London it’s probably easier to get to Glasgow by aeroplane then it is to get to Liverpool by train

I'm from Liverpool originally but hope Glasgow gets it! Outside Liverpool city centre much of the city is a mess with gangs, shootings, and poverty.

Don't think that's terribly accurate. I'm from Liverpool, still live here. It's such a popular city for peope to move to from other parts of the country that I'm worried about it becoming overpopulated (it's a very different place from the late 90s when I moved temporarily to London for a few years). I couldn't way to get away from London as found it claustrophobic and expensive, and it looks like Liverpool is headed the same way. Getting too built up.

Glaswegian here but very happy for you Liverpool!! Well done, I'm half Liverpudlian so all good!! Both cities are so alike, it will be fantastic.

Hopefully we will see loads of Glaswegians in Liverpool for the EurovisionSmile

The two always have a good laugh in my experience

I don't live near either, but I'm disappointed it's not Glasgow, seems to be the general mood amongst people I know, too. 😔

What kind of things have they been saying on the Daily Mail?

To be fair they are both a bit out of the way. London would have been better especially as Boris has done so much for Ukraine, they love him over there

Out of the way from where and what?

Bit disappointed with that even though I'm much closer to Liverpool than Glasgow

Liverpool of course (being nearby on the Wirral!) but either city will be amazing, so we have all won.

Glasgow is a twin of Liverpool in my opinion. They are both stunning cities, full of great people with fierce pride for their home turf, built on the best cultural and social traditions with amazing facilities, both surrounded by stunning landscapes within 30 minutes. Both excellent holiday destinations. Both fully deserving of the honour.

Is it all right to be torn between the two? They'd each be spendid.

The armadillo is still so named. Even on gig adverts

Big red shed in 1988 (before it was re-done in dull grey)

Was the original nickname for the SECC when it was first built (and was red).
Just like the the Clyde Auditorium was christened the Armadillo (although that one stuck!)
Excellent storage space for things and people right next to the arena

I think both cities and locals there will make it a completely brilliant experience.

Liverpool has the echo area and amazing hotels. But the old school hate and prejudice towards this amaxing and kind city wont like that. Get ready for the pathetic and untrue hold your purse jokes when its the kindest safest city ever
